Welcome
On behalf of the Foundation Board of Directors, it is my pleasure to welcome you to the 30th annual Kootenai Health Foundation Festival of Trees and thank you for your continuing support. We hope you enjoy this year’s festivities with family and friends.
Kootenai Health has remained steadfast in its mission of becoming a comprehensive, regional medical center serving the patients of the region with superior patient-focused care, close to home. We value decision-making at the local level, especially when it affects the health care of our region’s citizens.
The past few years have brought tremendous growth and change at Kootenai Health. In 2012 Kootenai Health began expanding the hospital to address the need for more services in our community. The first phase of the project was the east wing and its first floor. These areas include the family birth center, orthopedics and neurosurgery. The second phase included more operating rooms and an expanded emergency department. As one of the busiest emergency departments in the state, our larger emergency department is now designed to serve 55,000 to 57,000 patients each year. The third and final phase of this expansion campaign will provide 32 new private rooms for patients dealing with cancer, stroke or epilepsy. Our generous community has contributed over $10.7 million toward these projects. It is truly inspirational to see support for our community-owned, not-for-profit, independent hospital.
The Foundation Board remains steadfast in our work to inspire philanthropy to provide superior care right here at home. On behalf of the Foundation Board, thank you for your continued support of our community hospital and its foundation. Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and Happy New Year!
“We mostly focus on the good giving does for others – the good it does for our community. But just as profound is what it does for us. Because it is really true that while we grow physically by what we get, we grow spiritually by what we give.” — Arianna Huffington, Founder and CEO of the Huffington Post During this time of Thanksgiving, it is easy to be grateful for the blessings in our lives: family, friends, good jobs, and good health, just to name a few. It turns out, feelings of gratitude are more important than we may have realized. Clinical research is showing that people who practice gratitude and generosity toward others are more likely to feel happier, less likely to feel depressed, and even live longer lives. This year we will celebrate the Kootenai Health Foundation’s Festival of Trees’ thirtieth year. Looking back on the Festival’s history, it is wonderful to see how it has helped enhance patient care in our community and also inspired great joy among those who attend. As people generously give in support of the health care needs of our friends, families and neighbors, the joy of giving makes this a better place to live for both the recipient and the giver. At some time or another, all of us will face a health crisis, whether it is our own or that of a loved one. Thanks to generous gifts made in prior years at the Festival of Trees, today we have the resources here to help meet those needs. This year, we can continue to build on that legacy through our own generosity and gratitude. We look forward to seeing you at this year’s thirtieth annual Festival of Trees celebration. We know you will enjoy the personal joy it brings when you give to help others.
