Welcome, and thank you for visiting Trail, BC! We are very proud to call this unique and culturally rich West Kootenay town our home. We’ve spent considerable time investing in the future of our city and we have some wonderful amenities for you to experience during your stay. Stroll or bike over one of the longest pedestrian bridges of its kind in North America, the Columbia River Skywalk! This 1,000- foot signature structure is part of the Trans Canada Trail society’s vast Great Trail network and is known for its breathtaking views of the river and mountains. If you’re feeling energetic, loop the Skywalk with the Victoria Street Bridge for a 2 km trek. You’ll be sure to notice Trail’s hanging flower baskets and beautifully arranged flower beds. For more details visit trail.ca/Skywalk, thegreattrail.ca, and trail.ca/Bloom.

The Trail Riverfront Centre, an integrated library, museum and visitor centre is Trail’s hub for learning, culture and local information. From the outside, you’ll notice the building’s unique architectural design; from the inside, you’ll experience stateof-the-art programs, engaging exhibits and a spectacular view of the mighty Columbia River. More information is available at trailriverfrontcentre.com. Gyro Park, located in East Trail near Sunningdale, is a wonderful all-ages park with loads of space to stroll, play and relax. The Trail SK8 Park, inclusive playground, spray park, and sandy beach make it Trail’s go-to family friendly place during the warmer months.

Travelling to us by plane? You’ll land at the Trail Regional Airport, just 10 minutes from downtown. The modern and spacious terminal building is equipped with a business lounge, a kids’ corner, and ample short and long-term parking. The facility accommodates 22,000-plus travellers annually with reliable and affordable daily service to Vancouver and beyond. Visit trailairport.ca for all the information you need. If you’re travelling with your electric vehicle, there are plenty of charging stations in the Trail Memorial Centre parking lot. The Sun Country stations are free of charge and the FLO stations charge by the minute. See trail.ca/EVChargingStations for more information.

There are so many other wonderful things we’d like to tell you about, but it’s best you visit us to experience them first-hand. If you’d like to learn more about Trail, please visit our tourism website at tourismtrailbc.ca, or follow us on Facebook @ TrailVisitorCentre and Instagram @tourismtrailbc.

Enjoy your stay and revisit us soon, Mayor Colleen Jones

ALPENFLOW MURAL

The mural Alpenflow by Jessa Gilbert can be found in the Arts District at 1501 Cedar Avenue across from The Bailey Theatre entrance. The artist titled the piece Alpenflow as the repeating patterns and colours are reminiscent of clouds flowing across the Kootenay landscape during alpenglow. This mural is made possible thanks to the generous support of Columbia Basin Trust, Trail & District Arts Council, VISAC Gallery, the City of Trail, RDKB, and Selkirk College.

COVERED STAIRCASES

Trail has 63 unique covered staircases, mainly in West Trail. Built in the 1930s and 1940s, the staircases provided easier access to the downtown core. Fun fact: stacked atop one another, the staircases would equal 6,610 vertical feet or 1.25 miles (2 km)! If you’re looking for a workout with a side of culture, look no further!

CULTURAL EVENTS

For a complete listing of arts and culture events in the Trail area, check out the Trail & District Arts Council events calendar at trail-arts.com/events. From live performances by some of Canada’s top acts to colourful jazz sessions, culture is thriving in Trail!

A BLOOMING COMMUNITY

Since 2002, Trail has been involved in Communities in Bloom, a national non-profit, volunteer based program that promotes “people, plants and pride” in which cities across Canada compete and are awarded Bloom Ratings.

Cities are evaluated on floral displays, landscapes, turf and ground covers, urban forestry, community involvement, heritage conservation, environmental awareness, and tidiness. This organization is committed to fostering civic pride, environmental responsibility, and beautification through community participation and the challenge of competition.

Trail has participated in the provincial, national, international, and class of champions categories, and maintained a five-bloom rating. It has also been recognized for the development of Colombo Piazza, been named Best Floral City in Canada, and received the 2019 Best Garden Community Destination Award. Learn more at trail.ca/bloom
