a HomeMade in Ernest Hébrard Type: Diploma Research Thesis and Design Project Host : Aristotle University of Thessaloniki Year : 2017-2018 Supervisor : K. Sakantamis, Assistant Professor at A.U.Th Individual work

The context. In the contemporary world, overwhelmed by economic, social, technological and cultural changes, the design of a place that you can call “home” is increasingly getting challenging and complicated. The radical changes to traditional family structures and values, the human relationships that are more and more digitally connected, the new nomadic lifestyle that finds home wherever the wireless connection is, are few of the new conditions that architects should take into consideration when designing homes. The concept. The project focusing on co-habitation and communal shared spaces. The research analyses the collaborative design of homes, emphasizing user’s participation in community-driven residential design that allows for shared communal spaces rather than privately-owned units.

New Act Student Center

Type: Closed Architecture Competition Host :Anatolian College of Thessaloniki Year : 2017 Project Team : Varvatou Korina ( Associate Architect Engineer, Dip. AUTH), Sakantamis K. (Architect Engineer, MArch, PhD), Chourmouziadou K. (Architect Engineer, Acoustic Consultant, MArch, PhD), Lainakis M. (Architect Engineer, Visualization)

The context. The New ACT will be constructed in two phases. In the firtst phase, it will accommodate public areas, shops, student areas, office space, a gym and a multifunctional space. After the second phase of construction, an auditorium and three residencies will also be added to the complex. The new ACT student center takes center stage between the ACT New Building, and Bissel Library, which currently form ACT’s main educational and administration facilities. The concept. The central concept of the architectural investigation is based on the creation of a strongly perceptible morphology, whose principles are repeated and mutated in the two basic - and future - volumes. Their inclusion in the rural landscape takes place through the materiality, climatic conditions, orientation and the offered functions. A major consideration in the design was the building’s construction phasing and future expansibility.

The school yard on the blue axis Type: International Workshop Host : Ecoweek Year : October 2015 Supervisors : B. Cuomo (Architect Engineer), P. Nikiforidis (Architect Engineer), Project Team : Varvatou Korina, Papakonstantinou Alexia, Stefanidou Mariliza, Symeonidou Chara

The context. The public school is located in Kassandrou str and consists of 23rd/32nd secondary school and 26th high school. Years ago the building hosted the female prison of Thessaloniki. The project focuses on the problems mentioned through the visit to the site and attempts to give solutions. The main problem is the lack of “green” elements. The plants and the nature are in an extremely low amound providing a poor educational enviroment. The concept. The main idea is to cover the blind facade, adjacent to the yard, with a vertical installation, bringing the “green element” inside the yard. This vertical installation can host activities, both educational and extracurricular. By this way, the educational activity is extented out of the classroom giving more space to the students.

Cultural Center in Mantova, Italy Type: Academic Studio Host : Politecnico di Milano, FacoltĂ di Architettura Civile Year : 2014-2015 Supervisors : Prof. Riccardo Campagnola, Prof. Nicola Cimarosti Project Team : Varvatou Korina, Gkoka Nikoleta

The context. The project suggests the re-design of the Ex Convento dei Filippini, located in Madova, Italy. At first, the building hosted the Monastery and the Church of Santa Maria di Gonzaga. During the decates, the building was destroyed and reconstructed many times and hosted many different uses. Today, there is only the old Monastery while a parking occupies the area that once was the Church. The concept. The re-design project suggests the restoration of the old building and the addition of a new one in the area that once located the Church. The old building hosts cultural uses while the new one an amphitheatre / Concert Hall. Thus, the project suggests the creation of a cultural complex, in the heart of Madova.
