Ontario Expands Access to Post-Secondary Education in Milton and Brampton Shared by: Ariel Kormendy
On October 26th, 2016 Ontario’s Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Development announced the expansion of post-secondary education to Milton. The anticipation of getting a Wilfred Laurier Campus was diminished in 2015 when the province announced that funding was being directed to the York University campus in Markham. The Province will call for proposals beginning in January of 2017. Universities are encouraged to work in partnership with local communities, businesses and other institutions. With the population of 18 to 24 yearolds in Peel and Halton forecasted to hit
240,000 by 2035, the addition of these facilities is essential. Milton is, and has been for many years, at the top of the list of fastest growing communities in Canada; this news should keep us at the top of the list for years to come. There have been many changes in the real estate industry over recent months. There was the introduction of more stringent mortgage qualifications via a Stress Test, strict policies revolving around qualifications for the exemption of Captial Gains on a primary residence and one of the major banks increased their prime rate by 0.25%. Analysts have forecasted that some communities across Canada will be prone to a slow down in the market, while exceptions in
key communities will be found. With one of the lowest property tax rates and car insurance rates in the GTA, our close proximity to major highways and now being home to a new university, Milton continues to be on many savvy investors’ radar. The November Checklist If you didn’t catch this month’s Home Maintenance Checklist edition of KT Quick Tips, we’ll give you the scoop on what you should be doing around the house in November. Smoke & CO2 Detectors Daylight Savings is a great time to be replacing the battery and checking the expiry date of your smoke and CO2 detectors. These devices have sensors that wear over time and therefore have an expiry date of approximately 10 years, while some are less. Furnace Filter As the temperature drops and we turn our thermostat from cool to heat, making sure the furnace has a clean filter will ensure your system is running efficiently.
