Milton Marketplace News By: Graeme Ogilvie Store Manager Friday December 5th, was the Grand Opening of the new concept store for Sobeys, branded as Sobeys Extra. Sobeys is a proud Canadian owned and operated company that opened their first location in Stellarton, Nova Scotia back in 1907. The new Sobeys location is Milton is the biggest Sobeys in Canada and as Store Manager and a Milton resident, I couldn’t be happier with the positive feedback from the community.

We are a food first retailer, we put an emphasis on freshness and quality as well as our offering.

The store has a community room where they can host meetings, birthday parties, cooking classes etc, a cheese island with over 200 cheeses from around the world, a red seal chef on site doing cooking

demonstrations, as well as a well being counsellor and dietician to help customers with any questions that they may have with regards to diet and well being. The store also has a wide variety of hot prepared foods in the Sobeys Kitchen, a coffee bar, International food aisle and a pet boutique.

. . . we put an emphasis on freshness and quality

Staging Tips Milton’s “Boyne” sub-district, which will be home to over 17,000 new homes over the next few years, will soon see the first release of homes, with Mattamy Homes’ up-coming grand opening of their newest community, Hawthorne South Village. With a wide range of available options, this new community will have something for everyone. From entry-level “Village Homes” starting at 1044 square feet up to Detached homes on 43’ lots featuring up to 3,252 square feet, there is certainly a big selection. Located at the North-West corner of Britannia Road and Regional Road #25, this new development will mimic many of the attributes of the HVOTP (Hawthorne Village on the Park) community and should be a good option for those seeking a new home at good value - assuming you don’t mind living on a construction site for a few years.

Hanging those drapes! Window coverings are a key component to establishing the right feeling in a room. Hanging drapes can help accent furniture, windows and walls, however hanging the drapes at the right height is as important as what colour and material to select. Hanging drapes 5 to 7 inches over the window casing is ideal and will help establish a sense of higher ceilings. Visit our Pinterest page for more great tips. Pinterest.com/kormendytrott

Official release date has not yet been announced, but it is expected for late 2014 or early 2015, so be prepared! Speculation leads us to believe closings will occur later in 2015.

BETTER

Grow Your Relationships With

Your Neighbours This Holiday Season Whether you’re new to the neighbourhood or you’ve lived there for years, the holidays provide a great opportunity to meet your neighbours. What better way to get to know the people on your block or in your building than to bring them a small, thoughtful gift to break the ice? The size of the gift doesn’t matter; what matters is building relationships with your neighbours.

Hot cocoa or apple cider mix in mugs will keep your Poinsettiasare a symbol of the holiday season. Give one neighbours toasty on a cold winter’s day. Pick up a few sets plant such as kalanchoe, amaryllis or paperwhite narcissus. at discount and department stores around the holidays. Cookie mixes in mason jars are sure to express the holiday spirit. Fill the jar with mixes for holiday favourites like gingerbread or sugar cookies.

A bottle of wine or another favourite beverage is a nice surprise your neighbours are sure to appreciate.

Baked goods are a timeless gift. While you’re baking cookies for the holidays, bake a few dozen extra to give to your neighbours. Other yummy options include popcorn balls, bread or pies.

Knowing Your Neighbours 1. Safety. Neighbourhoods where people know one another tend to be safer than those where people are strangers. Friendly neighbours might feel more comfortable notifying authorities if they see suspicious activity. Consider: • Starting a neighbourhood watch program. • Keeping an eye on your neighbour’s house while they’re out of town.

2. Sharing. Tight-knit neighbours are more likely to share resources, whether it’s a hammer or extra goodies from the garden.

3 Ways to Be a 1. Be friendly. A little small talk goes a long way. Say “hello” to your neighbours, and try to get to know them. 2. Be considerate. If you share walls with your neighbours, be aware of the noise that your appliances, gadgets and animals make, especially if your neighbour has a sure to keep it down after 9 or 10 pm. 3. Keep your place tidy. Whether you live in an apartment, a subdivision or in a rural area, it’s important to keep your property in good shape. Sweep your doorway, pick up litter and mow your lawn.

Consider: • Helping your elderly neighbours with yard work, snow removal or tasks around the house. • Taking dinner to a neighbour who is under the weather or who just had a baby.

3. Social support. People with strong social ties are not only happier, but they also tend to live longer.
