The Trident Houses take precedent from the inventiveness of past inhabitants of the shotgun house type. The shotgun is a popular house type among working class neighborhoods accross the south, due to their adaptability and customizability to the inhabitant’s needs. For instance, in New Orleans it was common for Quadroon women to host people in their homes. The invention of the side-gallery and side-hall shotgun types became practical to separate the house into two - one for the tenant and one for the renter. The Trident houses seek to do the same with the Live-Work lifestyle that has risen in frequency due to the pandemic. Each house has been customized to meet the neesd of a Culinary Artist and Milner in this project.

Sponge Cake

In collaboration with Patrick Griffin [pgriffin@gmail.com]

Instructor: Marco Ancheita

Niles Bolton Housing Studio [2024]

Situated on Howard University's campus in the Shaw disctrict of Washington DC, the Sponge Cake is a student housing project that pushes the programmatic capabilities of the increasingly common mixed-used mid-rise. A generously wide double-loaded corridor reaches upwards and outwards through large openings in the floor plates bound by a number of colorfully framed atriums. A square grid of translucent operable windows serves as the envelope of the building providing residents with privacy and indepdent comfort controls. This facade is inturrupted and made clear where public programme is placed.

STUDY: MYVATN BEER SPA

Studio Year III [2023]

A design for a Beer Spa tourist destination complete with a Brewery and Cafe within the building. A large concrete wall separates the wet rooms from the hospitality spaces but is inturrupted by a single curved gesture that leads bathers down to the Beer Spas

Auburn Avenue Arts Centre

Studio Year II [2021]

A design for an Arts Centre in downtown Atlanta, at the corner of the historic Auburn Avenue and Piedmont Avenue. The proposal provides numerous outdoor spaces open the the street, with large rising doors along Piedmont Avenue, which is now a walkway for Georgia State University students. The elevation on Auburn Avenue takes inspiration from the demolished residence and Ruckers Building.

The SCHOOL OF RHYTHM is passively cooled by the westerly winds which are collected by the WIND TOWER. The air from the prevailing winds are brought to the basement, pushed through a corridor and cooled over water, whose surfaces are a purple tile with writing in white, a reinterpretation from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s Tomb. A visitor can directly experience all the operations of the chimney columns as they are pushed by the wind through the corridor, into a lobby illuminated by chimneys that act as skylights.

DEEP DECORATION

In collaboration with Joshua Rivera [jrivera@gmail.com]

Instructors: Lars Spuybroek, Bryce Truitt

A project exploring ornament as the fundemental system in a structure. The foundations of this project are based in Indian Kolam patterns, which have been deconstructed and analysed for their parts. Then, patterns are created from these parts and make 120 x 60 feet sheets. These sheets undergo a number of manipulations before they are placed on the site, where they continue to change order and ornament based on situational parameters.

CAMPUS BUS STOP

Construction Technology [2022]

A design for a bus stop in front of the Klaus Advanced Computing Building. It is a unit based system which utilizes glu-lam columns and beams to provide an artificial forest for pedestrians to explore. On top of being a bus stop, each unit can provide seating, roofing, or plant boxes.

CAMPUS PAVILLION

Studio Year I [2020]

A proposal for a poly-propylene pavillion, constructed only from 25 foot square sheets. The pavillion sits on a junction for foot traffic at the top of a notorious hill outside of The Price-Gilbert Memorial Library. Analysis of the library was done as well, where many hand-drawings were produced. After site analysis was complete, a pavillion was designed in close proximity. Strong horizontal and vertical elements in the pavillion’s architecture refect the surrounding structures and site.

Two studio projects addressed the Price-Gilbert Memorial Library on the Georgia Tech campus. Analaysis of the site and building was done, and the development of a pavllion close in proximity to the library was assigned.

Two studio projects addressed the Price-Gilbert Memorial Library on the Georgia Tech campus. Analaysis of the site and building was done, and the development of a pavllion close in proximity to the library was assigned.

Consideration of the site was a large inspiration for the form of the Hilltop Pavillion. Since an intersection exists just outside of the library, the pavillion’s columns are intended to frame the long sightlines avaliable at the junction.
