Dear art lovers, Once again, the creativity of Ethiopia is being showcased in this very special event: Art Of Ethiopia 2019. I want to extend a warm welcome to all of you who, year after year, have supported our talented artists and made this event the success it has become. Thank you again to the management and staff of Sheraton Addis for their sponsorship and organisation of the exhibition. Our vision is to make Art Of Ethiopia a one-of-a-kind platform, educating present and future generations, and promoting collaborations through art by gathering talented Ethiopian artists, individuals and communities under one roof. We want everyone to ‘embrace’ Ethiopian culture, and to promote and create positive change and attitudes in the art world. “Creativity is the power to reject the past, to change the status quo, and to seek new potential. Simply put, aside from using one’s imagination - perhaps more importantly - creativity is the power to act.” - Ai Weiwei Yours sincerely,

Marina Emphietzi Curator

Let us cross the Bridge together A decade passed since our first one of a kind showcase. And here we are celebrating 11 years of fineness and noteworthy art. It is with honor and excitement that we present to you the 2019 Art of Ethiopia. What makes this year different than the previous years? In our search to continually improve and diversify the exhibition we have included works from the far reaches of Ethiopia. Our goal is to become a bridge linking our disconnected world using a powerful tool like Art or more precisely Ethiopian Art. In other words, we want to leave footprints by providing a sustainable platform that contributes towards a positive image the country. However, we have been able to overcome and stand strong for the brighter future of art in Ethiopia. As art is about perception, we cannot thank our art viewers enough. The motivational support and the constructive critiques have made us stronger. Thank you all the creative participants for displaying their astonishing artworks and for believing in the purpose that stands behind the Art of Ethiopia. To quote a famous proverb, “If you want to walk fast, walk alone. If you want to walk far, walk together”. Finally, I would like to thank the Management of The Sheraton Addis and it’s team for giving us another year to express and celebrate Ethiopian Art. For hosting the show at the most desirable venue, for being the backbone of this journey, for supporting the art industry through the endowment fund; but most of all for believing in the concept Art of Ethiopia.
