MOUNT CAMDEBOO
MOUNT CAMDEBOO, FRAMED BY THE SNEEUBERG MOUNTAIN RANGE
Mount Camdeboo stretches out over 14,000 hectares of beautiful, private land where impressive vistas form unparalleled backdrops for game viewing. Here, a diverse range of topography and dramatic landscapes, from lush valleys to sweeping plateaus can be absorbed.
Over the years, much love and dedication has been poured into the development of this property from agricultural farmland into a pristine game reserve in line with Mount Camdeboo’s vision to conserve the land and provide a natural habitat where wildlife, including endangered species, are able to roam freely.
Guests can enjoy memorable experiences such as scenic helicopter flights, game walks, cheetah tracking and stargazing. The reserve further affords guests easy access to a range of attractions as it is set in proximity to the historical town of Graaff-Reinet, Nieu Bethesda and the breathtaking Valley of Desolation.

ACTIVITIES
GUIDED TOURS
A stay at Mount Camdeboo includes two game drives per day (averaging about three hours each) at optimal wildlife viewing times, namely: pre-dawn and sunset. The vehicles used on the reserve are purpose-built, nine-seater game viewing Land Rovers. They are SABS safety approved and are equipped with seatbelts, a shade canopy and drink holders. Given that the Camdeboo Manors are nestled in a valley, the game drives typically start with a breath-taking climb up the mountain slopes and onto the plateau above where the animals graze and where the world unfolds at guests’ feet.
Guided bush walks offer an alternative to a normal game drive, subject to the whole vehicle opting to walk.
CHEETAH TRACKING
Saba and Nairo, our two resident cheetah immigrants, first came to South Africa from the UK in late 2019. In a world first for cheetah conservation, these brothers, who were born in captivity in the UK, have made their way to their forever home to be rewilded on the plains of Mount Camdeboo. Take a guided drive to track the brothers down and experience an up close and personal encounter with the inquisitive pair. Learn all about their journey from captivity, learning to hunt and the journey to becoming truly wild. Pricing available on request for booking as a separate activity.
HISTORIC WAR SITE
Visits to a historic war site where the pivotal ‘Battle of Paardefontein’ was fought are offered at Mount Camdeboo. It is here that the famous Commander, Johannes Lötter was captured. During one of the game drives, our knowledgeable guides will gladly share the full story and other historic facts this incredible open landscape offers.
EVENING ACTIVITIES
Guests can opt for a night drive depart after sunset for the chance at beholding some of the lesser seen nocturnal creatures such as Aardvark, Genet, Aardwolf, Caracal and Bat eared foxes. The experience is rounded off with an introduction into the night skies of the Karoo, constellations lighting up above the deserted landscape.
SPECIAL OCCASIONS
EVENTS
Mount Camdeboo offers an outstanding conferencing solution, whether the aim is to inspire, incentivise, or to break away from the hustle and the bustle to strategise for the months ahead. The tranquil setting, vast open space and a variety of activities allow business people to get the best out of their teams and host a memorable work event away from the boardroom.
WEDDINGS
A wedding at Mount Camdeboo is a romantic and relaxed experience where the bridal couple can focus on their special day while the Mount Camdeboo team takes care of the arrangements. Ideal for intimate weddings, this location offers a unique setting in which couples can exchange their vows and celebrate one of the most important days of their lives.
LOCATION
The Great Karoo is considered a semi-desert region. Arid air and cloudless skies are typical of this area, as are great heat and frosts. Daytime is typically warm, while night-time and early mornings can become cool, even in summer months. This climate results in a very particular landscape, dotted with xerophytic vegetation. The topography on Mount Camdeboo is however quite different, boasting lush valleys, due to its location at the foot of the Sneeuberg.
SUMMER
October - April/May
Hot, occasional thunder-showers
Average daytime temperature 30°C
WINTER
April/May - September
Cool, sometimes snow on the mountains
Average daytime temperature 15°C
