Limberlost State Historic Site: The Limberlost marsh was the perfect laboratory for author Gene Stratton-Porter to study nature. At a time when most women were homemakers, Porter created a lasting legacy of northern Indiana’s vanishing natural history through her writings and photos. Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo: Families will love 40 acres of animals, rides and beautifully landscaped grounds. Don't miss the African Journey, featuring lions, hyenas and monkeys. You can even hand-feed giraffes! Ride the Sky Safari, trek through the Indonesian Rain Forest and say hello to orangutans or sharks. See why the zoo was named a top ten zoo by Trip Advisor! Kosciusko County Lake City Skiers: A competitive water ski show team located in Warsaw, with approximately 80 members ranging from 4 to 65 years of age. Throughout the summer performances are on Sunday and Tuesday evenings and are free to the public on Hidden Lake, located at the junction of S.R. 15 and U.S. 30. Each year a different theme, music, costumes and acts are selected by the show director, who is elected by team members at the end of the previous season. Shows usually consist of high-speed bare footing, beautiful ballet line, amazing jumping, graceful swivel skiing, and the always dangerous around the boat. Throw in numerous dance routines and comedy acts, both on and off the water, and you have the elements of a show. Free. Donations appreciated. (lakecityskiers.org)

Auburn Cord Duesenberg Automobile Museum: A National Historic Landmark, this automotive mecca exhibits more than 120 cars ranging from 1894 to 1999 and automotive displays on three floors. The museum has the greatest and most extensive collection of Auburn Cord and Duesenberg automobile in the world. (automobilemuseum.org)
Shipshewana Auction and Flea Market: Visit the Midwest’s largest flea market where more than 1,000 vendors gather together to sell their wares each Tuesday and Wednesday. You will be greeted at the front gate by a flea market spokesman who will briefly share the rich history of this memorable market. (shipshewanatradingplace.com)
Elkhart County Elkhart County Jazz Festival: June 22– 24. Jazz and music lovers alike converge at the magnificently restored Lerner Theatre and other downtown venues for this weekend-long celebration packed with indoor and outdoor dining and entertainment. (elkhartjazzfestival.com) Huntington County Salamonie Lake: Salamonie Lake and Salamonie River State Forest comprise more than 12,000 acres. Visitors can enjoy camping, boating, fishing, swimming, hiking and picnicking. There are even bridle trails for horses, cross-country ski trails and snowmobile trails on the state property. The Salamonie Interpretive Center offers interpretive activities and workshops all season so check their schedule when planning

Noble County Kendallville Apple Festival: The mission of this authentic pioneer festival is to entertain and educate visitors about American heritage from 1830 to 1865. All vendors wear period clothing and booths are decorated in materials common to the time period. The festival draws more than 70,000 visitors each year for its antique dealers; children’s area with games, crafts and rides; primitive traders village; open-air fire-cooked food; demonstrations of pioneer arts and crafts; 100 craft vendors, and a Civil War encampment. Steuben County Pokagon State Park: Pokagon State Park, nestled on the shores of Lake
James, is a picturesque 1,260-acre park nestled in extreme northeast Indiana complete with hiking trails, beaches, an interpretive nature center, cross country skiing, boat rental and guided horse rides. Pokagon is also home to the state's only refrigerated toboggan run. Open weekends the day after Thanksgiving through the last weekend in February, the toboggan is a great family activity. Toboggans rent for $13 per hour and hold up to four people. Potawatomi Inn, the 138-room hotel, offers two restaurants, library, cabin suites, gift shop and indoor pool. Wabash County The Wabash County Dam to Dam Century Ride: Northeast Indiana's premier cycling event that happens every second Sunday of September. D2D (for short) is a recreational and social tour for bicyclists, showcasing rural Indiana during the changing of the seasons, and includes routes from 15 to 100 miles. Included with registration: fully catered SAG stops, free commemorative shirt, breakfast and lunch. (visitwabashcounty.com/centuryride)
Wells County Bluffton Free Street Fair: Since 1898, the Bluffton free Street Fair offers fun for the entire family including a midway, arts and crafts exhibits, high school band and swing choir competition, national musical acts, Grand Parade held opening night at 7pm, and a variety of food and treats to tempt anyone. The Bluffton Street Fair begins on the 3rd Tuesday of September and runs through Saturday. Each day holds special events and things to do. (blufftonstreetfair.com)
Whitley County Russel and Evelyn Fahl Aquatic Center: The new facility will have a a competition pool with six lanes, a zero-depth entry pool, multiple waterslides, a water vortex, a drop slide and a grassy area for picnics and other recreation. To ensure that the center is used year-round, the aquatics center will incorporate a large, outdoor ice skating rink. Construction is expected to be completed by May 2018.
