East Allen County Schools district residents are being asked for input on a schools building and renovation undertaking that would cost an estimated $74 million. The finished plan will go to a public hearing on Jan. 19. If approved by the School Board, it would go to the voters in a May 3, 2016, referendum. Superintendent Ken Folks said the project would add about $23 a year to the property tax bill for a house valued at $100,000. The added tax would first be collected in 2017. In a follow-up statement, a district spokesman said such a tax typically would continue for about 20 years. Folks said work would be done in each of the sprawling district’s five attendance areas: Heritage, Leo, New Haven, Woodlan and the former Harding High School

That’s a very beautiful setting.” Fort Wayne Food Truck has signed on with least 11 vendors. That separate event is known as the Fort Wayne Food Truck Fall Festival.

Larger community center to begin programs in 2016 Recreation opportunities will multiply with a $2-million community center on Lincoln Highway in New Haven. Leaders expect renovations to begin this year, with occupancy in 2016. The City of New Haven and the New Haven/ Adams Township Park Department are collaborating to buy and complete the vacant building that once housed the Marine Corps League. The property is accessed by a road beside the McDonald’s restaurant. A familiar sign marking 7500 E. Lincoln Highway will be adapted to tout the multi-service facility. The 16,500square feet building is on a 12-acre property. Parks Department Director Mike Clendenen said the new center will

replace the current office on Hartzell Street, which eventually will be put up for sale. The new community center will continue to house the Park Department offices. The New Haven City Council signed off on its participation Sept. 8. “The City Council approved [the Parks Department] borrowing the purchase price from the city while we get the ball rolling. We hope to have the bond proceeds by the end of the year,” Clendenen said. He said the $2 million estimated cost includes renovations. “The property owners donated half the listing price, so we really appreciate that,” Clendenen said. “It’s an exciting time and we’re looking forward to it. Once we take possession, we’ll bring in the public so they can see it.” Property owners
