Pool screen not an option here Mr. Deahl, we have a nice house that we built about three years ago, and we would like to add a pool to the back yard. It’s just my husband and I, we like to entertain so a small pool and patio area is what we’re thinking. This last winter we were down in Florida, and all SQUARE the pools have a CORNERS screen lanai over the pools. We have Jeff Deahl lots of mosquitoes and bugs , and something like that could increase the usability of a pool. cages like in Florida in the Midwest. The screen lanais that are built in Florida have no considerations to trapped snow and ice load. They can simply attach the aluminum frame enclosure to the rear eve of the home and do not take into consideration run off of the roof, causing trapped water or ice. In a temperament like the south, they simply attach a large rain gutter to the back of the house then build a large aluminum frame up and over the pool area. In Indiana, the buildup of water, snow and ice would destroy it the first season. In the midwest to achieve the same results requires more planning for our climate. The idea is great in regard to building a screen enclosure that protects the area
from unwanted bugs, but typically the roof has to be ridged tempered glass or a roof and skylight structure over the pool area. As a result, the pool is typically smaller and the lanai is stronger and more expensive. In the winter climates we have a full footer and foundation that would be required, and protection from freezing of the pool and plumbing lines would have to be planned for. It really is like building an indoor pool with large glass windows and doors that lead outdoors. Now, you have increased the use in the spring and fall by it not being a screen enclose. Eclectic design may not stand test of time My husband and I are planning some remodeling this next year, and I have had a designer help me with a bath remodel project. This designer worked with me when we built 12 years ago, so I’m comfortable working with her. Our current SQUARE bath is fairly simple CORNERS and standard fixtures were used. Now, I Jeff Deahl want to remodel the full master bath (not changing the tub or shower) with new counter tops, cabinets and a redesigned master closet. The designs she has suggested is a mix of different materials and textures that seem a little out of the box, my husband say’s it’s an eclectic style and likes it. Will this go out of

style in the near future? — Amy in northern Allen County I’m a rookie at trending styles and fancy names of different trends and fads. I am a carpenter, so take this for what it’s worth. An eclectic style usually involves several different styles, materials, textures and time periods. This is popular and often mixes old style components, like a farm style sink or distressed wood paneling made to look old. Sometimes new or contemporary elements are incorporated into the design, like modern facets or fixtures. The appliances can be new, but look like the old-style refrigerators and stoves, often in porcelain finish. Myself, I think this mixes too much stuff to be resilient to the changing attitudes of style. I like a more commonly known style, such as material mixing. It is a trend especially in the younger affluent
couples and families. I often see it in trendy coffee shops and store outlets that involve mixing of different colors and materials. This normally doesn’t involve mixing of periods such as contemporary vs. modern, but more mixing of material, like Formica and granite. This typically involves introducing different colors, like a darker linen cabinet with a contrasting color vanity. Most of the time it includes tile trim on the floor or wall that is contrary to the other components in the space. I think this is a much more resilient to time style.
