Marching Cadets gather trophies early in season By Garth Snow gsnow@kpcmedia.com

The Concordia Lutheran High School Marching Cadets have gathered awards early in the season with their Easter-theme show, “Redeemed from Darkness.” Adam Friedrich became director this year upon the retirement of 23-year director Dianne Moellering, who has remained as a resource to Friedrich and the staff. At the On the Banks of the Wabash marching band festival on Sept. 10 at Bluffton High School, Concordia took first place among four bands in Class C and swept the awards for music, visual and general effect. “It went really well. The kids were ready for this. They were very, very excited to present our show,” Friedrich said that evening. “I’m exception-

A Concordia Lutheran High School senior spearheaded a fund drive for a family whose home was damaged in a September tornado. “Concordia takes care of its own and it’s an amazing thing to see and be part of,” said Miranda Diller, who organized a gofundme account for Paul and Nettie Rekeweg of rural Woodburn. The tornado also destroyed the couple’s farm buildings and a truck, car and machinery. It flattened about 60 acres of corn. It also damaged buildings a half-mile to the east, where Paul’s cousin John lives. No one was injured. In Allen County, eight homes were damaged, five destroyed, two barns
