Editorial

What is quality? Quality. Everyone talks about it and we see it everywhere: the quality of the organisations where we work, the quality of products, the quality of people, the quality of processes... We all agree that quality is extremely important. Without quality, a design would never stand a chance, our work would be pointless and a product would literally be worthless. But what is quality? It's more than simply labelling something as "good". It's not just a matter of service life, but also of durability, and it's not only about aiming to

deliver performance, but actually achieving it. Quality is a concept that everyone recognises but nobody can really describe. According to the dictionary, quality is "the degree of excellence of something". It is therefore important for us to give meaning to this "something" and the extent to which it is defined as "excellent". At Kramp, we invest in establishing longterm relationships with our customers and suppliers. This means that we listen to you carefully to ensure that we speak the same language. We actively contribute to finding the best solution, because our business revolves around delivering quality in the long term — for us, for you and for your customers. The same is true of our GWT by Kramp and

Quality comes first at Hitachi Power Tools Sales Manager Ruurd van der Vegt describes Hitachi as an expert generalist. The originally Japanese company is active in various disciplines: from diggers to trains and from medical equipment to drilling machines. This diversity has contributed to Hitachi's success - they now employ nearly 350,000 people worldwide, distributed over some forty divisions.

6

One of those divisions is Hitachi Power Tools, which falls under Hitachi Koki. Ruurd van der Vegt is Sales Manager of the Power Tools division in the Netherlands. “We provide our customers with advice and we are a trendsetter, while at the same time not losing sight of quality. Our customers know and expect that of us too.” Hitachi power tools are primarily used by the professional user, whether it be a disc cutter, electric screwdriver or drill hammer. “In this respect we are leading in innovation. A good example of this are our brushless machines, these machines have no carbon brushes. Consequently, the motor experiences less resistance. This means 30% less power consumption, better monitoring of the machine's rpm and less maintenance resulting in more operational reliability.”

Unique in the market These advantages do not only apply to battery-powered machines, but also to the

are accommodated for and levelled off even when long extension leads are used.

• T he Japanese character for Hitachi (Kanji) means sunset

That means a continuously working machine, for instance when having to work with a power pack. In short, you get a continuously and optimally working machine, which does not compromise on power or rpm, weighs less, is smaller and creates 50% less heat. Hitachi is the only one on the market that is able to offer this solution.”

• Head office in Japan

Another example of the company's commitment to innovation is the development of

the batteries. “We have grown from 7.2V to 18V, but perhaps more important is the development from 3 to 6 amperes. This increases the ‘tank capacity’, resulting in

better productivity, more efficiency and consequently more durable machines.”

Successful collaboration Continuous innovation. That is something Kramp and Hitachi have in common. “That is why we have been working together so successfully for so long”, according to Van der Vegt. “Kramp is extremely important to us when it comes to reaching the dealer and the end customers in a large part of Europe as far as the agricultural sector is concerned.” The Hitachi brand serves the mechanics in the workshop, but it is also a great addition for dealers running a retail shop. “Kramp dealers know the power of Hitachi and so they are keen to work with it”, says Van der Vegt. “Whether it is a disc cutter or a ring nut installation tool. As they know the quality because they use it themselves, they also want to include it in the shop's assortment.” In 2016, they took over the Japanese company Metabo, which gave them a firmer grip on the Power Tools market. “We offer a wide range of products, not just for the workshop but also for the forest and garden sector. This segment has grown significantly after the takeover of Tanaka in 2007.” Kramp offers a broad segment of Hitachi tools and components on its web shop.

GWT by Kramp and GWB by Kramp The GWT by Kramp series is designed for anyone who needs functionality and well planned design, but who also appreciates a fashionable design and perfect fit. All clothing in the GWT by Kramp series are made of the best materials. These materials have been carefully selected to ensure that the working clothes are up to every challenge. GWT by Kramp uses the most recent modes of production and materials, so the clothing always satisfies the requirements that are set for technical and functional working clothes. These clothes can be worn all year round. Strong stitching, protected zips and many other details offer proper protection against wear. At the same time, the GWB by Kramp series provides an optimal cut, so the clothing fits comfortably and is a pleasure to work in. All GWB by Kramp materials have been thoroughly tested with an eye to optimal comfort and durability.

certainly of ours. An explanation is given below of how this is achieved by the e-business team. Bob Veurman is an e-business owner and explains: “We work a lot with A/B tests. With this test, the webshop team makes two different variants of, for instance, web pages, buttons, design and colour

Based on this data, we know exactly which version is most appreciated by our customers and so must be retained. “This method of webshop optimisation ensures that we are able to work step by step towards improving user-friendliness. The rules of the game The growth of the company and the advent of new legislation means that Kramp must now comply with an increasing number of legal requirements. A lawyer has therefore been employed in-house at the company for several years now. As the general legal advisor, he is regularly asked questions about various matters, and about matters related to liability in particular. His advice is always to ensure that the company's general terms of sale are up to scratch.

Partnership

Kramp supplies Kongskilde parts René de Zeeuw describes the collaboration between Kongskilde and Kramp as “a perfect match”. The Sales Director for the agricultural division of the Danish company is delighted that Kramp has taken over the logistics and supply of original parts.

On 1st April 2016, Kramp began the distribution of parts for Kongskilde throughout Europe. “Thanks to the partnership with Kramp, we can now fully focus on the production and sale of agricultural machinery, safe in the knowledge that the parts distribution is in good hands. The collaboration also means that our parts can now be ordered online. This is a giant leap forward for us.”

Benefits Carsten Thygesen, a member of the Kramp Executive Board, highlights the benefits. “The collaboration between the two companies provides customers with three benefits: speed of delivery and one-stop shopping in an e-commerce setting. In short, parts for Kongskilde agricultural machinery are now reaching users even more quickly.” This neatly leads Thygesen on to yet another benefit for Kongskilde dealers. “Users buy machines if they know that they can get hold of replacement parts quickly. The collaboration means that dealers can now guarantee this rapid availability for Kongskilde agricultural machinery.” The partnership between the two companies was driven by Kongskilde's desire to centralise the warehouses. “The main issue we came up against was delivery speed”, says de Zeeuw. “In that situation, you are left with a choice between making significant investments and working together with another party.” Kramp has been managing parts distribution for Kongskilde within the Benelux for around ten years. This collaboration provided a strong basis for exploratory talks throughout 2015.

1+1=3 De Zeeuw says that these talks took place in an open and positive atmosphere from the very beginning. “Both parties simply put their cards on the table. Ultimately, the most important aspect of a partnership is mutual trust. This partnership is a textbook example of 1+1=3. A win-win situation for Kongskilde, for Kramp and, of course, for our customers. They benefit from the improved availability of parts and excellent service.” Over the past few months, a great deal of hard work has been done to make all Kongskilde parts available on www.kramp.com. Thygesen says, “We are talking about around 8,000 parts supplied via the webshop. That means we have to have these parts in stock in our warehouses and on display in the webshop in a variety of languages. It was a huge task that was completed in record time and, as a general rule, if you order today, your items will arrive tomorrow.”

Customer Portrait

The Millennium Group

20 years of servicing local industry & agriculture Millennium Bearings & Transmission Ltd was formed in 1996 by Russell Price and Colin Jacques to offer a breakdown service to industrial and agricultural workshops and maintenance departments in and around the Lichfield area. We met them to discuss their 20 year anniversary and the future of the Millennium Group.

24

Customer Portrait

The emphasis Millennium places on customer service has always been key to customers remaining loyal and 'word of mouth' recommendations have always provided a constant flow of new customers. Everyone is treated the same, whether they purchase an item for £5 or £500, which is why Millennium Group are a highly respected supplier of spare parts and accessories. Russ & Colin can now boast an established business employing 8 staff with a network of farmers, agricultural dealers, contractors and engineers all treating The Millennium Group as their one-stop shop. From the inception of the company, Millennium Group have supplied Waltherscheid PTO. Their relationship with Kramp began in 2000 when Kramp became Waltherscheid distributors. As Millennium Group have always been familiar with transmission products it soon became apparent that access to Kramp's extensive variety of products was ideal to enable Russell and Colin to expand the products & services on offer. From the original PTO spares, wearing parts, chainsaw chains and 3 point linkage items to the full range that Millennium Group now offer, the relationship with Kramp continues to go from strength to strength. Gordon Cummings, Account Manager, works in close partnership with them to develop their business and integrate Kramp concepts and solutions. This includes Scan to Mobile, an ordering processing system which reduces the risk of errors for easy and fast replenishment of products in their busy trade shop. Millennium Group also use Web to Print - a print on demand system which quickly creates marketing material for dealers. This is used for both direct marketing and, in electronic form, is used on the offers page of their website. Russ & Colin are excited about the future. Developing their ecommerce business and generating further sales is a priority. With sales driven through the website, they can focus their energy in developing the business and meeting customer expectations. Millennium Group are also testing the prototype Kramp In-store Service (K.I.S.S). This is a retail system allowing end users to browse the Kramp webshop while queueing at the counter. At present, most of their sales come from direct contact over the phone or on the trade counter, but they are currently developing their online business to make it easier for their customers to order - wherever they are. As this goes to print there is a demonstration link on the agricultural page of their website which links in-turn to Kramp’s site and a real-time trial is being undertaken by selected Millennium customers. Russ & Colin are proud that The Millennium Group remains true to its original philosophy. They are also proud of continuing their one-stop shop philosophy of combining the perfect combination of product availability, service and price. n

Kramp Face

Where did you work before Kramp? After I left school, I had a variety of customer service roles in high street retailers and local pubs until I joined college to study Travel and Tourism. After this, I worked for Champneys and then Nuffield Health Gym as a Duty Manager, where my responsibilities were looking after a number of employees, generating sales and improving customer service.

What attracted you to Kramp? After doing plenty of research on Kramp, I realised what an innovative and progressive company it was. They have established a great foundation which is continuing to grow. I love their openness, warm friendly atmosphere and they have made me very welcome. They are extremely supportive and it’s a very attractive place to work. I am very excited about this new challenge. I have a thirst for knowledge and I believe Kramp can help me grow and give me the opportunities for a successful career.

Supporting the farming community

Kramp UK’s charity of the year – the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution, has recently released their latest set of figures detailing how the donations made to the charity have benefitted the farming community.

sustainable future for the farming community, as they provide valuable support both financially and through advice and welfare for farming families when times become difficult.

How can we help? Kramp are committed to assisting the R.A.B.I. both financially and through using our resources and time to help with fund raising. We do this because our business is built on the long term success of farming. Our desire to

donate in support of the farming community is an integral core value of our business.

We need your support We need our dealer network to also step up and help the R.A.B.I. Below are a few ideas that we have had – but the RABI are always looking for more events.

Quiz night On the 11th November 2016 we will be hosting a quiz night in conjunction with the CLA to raise funds for the RABI. Thanks to a kind donation of premises from the Luton Hoo Estate, we will be holding the quiz in their fantastic shooting room. Entries are £5 per person and we are looking for teams of 6. If you would like to donate a prize for the event and sign up a team to represent your business then please contact Richard Kendrick or Debbi Oakley Willmor on 01767 602630. You can also sponsor the event for £25, this will give you the opportunity to place marketing material in the welcome packs for each attendee.

Endurance Fundraisers Have you always wanted to ride from John O Groats to Lands’ End? Maybe you have always wanted to complete the Three Peaks Challenge? Or perhaps you wanted to skydive and raise funds for charity at the same time? If so then make that charity the R.A.B.I. They would be delighted to hear from you. Simply contact your R.A.B.I. regional manager and they will

Open Evening Fundraising As we get through harvest and into the winter months, many dealerships start planning their open days and shows. Simply offering the RABI the chance to place a stand at your show, or even something as simple as a collection bucket passed round during an event will help raise funds that will go back into supporting the community.

If you have an event you would like to organise then you can contact the R.A.B.I. regional manager or Marketing Manager Richard Kendrick on richard.kendrick@kramp.com. n
