CASPIAN The ‘Caspian’ collection reflects a renewed desire for homes that express our unique personalities, characters and tastes and the continued trend for confident, layered interiors that combine antique inspired textiles, vibrant colour and pattern, vintage finds and treasured heirlooms. Designed to coordinate seamlessly with GP & J Baker’s Coromandel, Coromandel Small Prints and Essential Weaves collections to create an emotionally rich aesthetic, ‘Caspian’ offers an escape - a fantasy journey of discovery that artfully mixes heritage styles and techniques inspired by the ancient Silk Road with reinterpreted archival references. ‘Caspian’ juxtaposes designs inspired by Persia’s disciplined, geometric gardens, the richly embroidered tribal Suzannis of Uzbekistan and the magnificent, blowsy blooms of East India with the intricate craftsmanship and weaving skills of the ancient desert oases of Samarkand with their wonderful ikats and the finely drawn motifs reminiscent of India’s block printing traditions. Two charmingly naive printed illustrations taken from Indian miniature paintings add an eclectic and playful element to the collection. Colours range from saturated Kashmiri reds, earthy ochres, bright emeralds and rich indigos through to the lighter, chalky tones of aqua and sand to create confident, grown up interiors.
