It’s almost that time of year again. Here is the schedule for the collection of the Association’s Assessments: January 31st: Unpaid Assessments became delinquent.

February 1st: Late fees and interest begin and Late Notices are mailed out for all delinquent accounts.

March 1st: A Warning Letter is mailed out on all delinquent accounts.

April 1st: A Final Notice is mailed (via certified mail) on all delinquent accounts. There is a $35 charge to the delinquent account at this time.

May 1st: If payment still has not been received or a payment plan has not been entered, delinquent accounts are sent to the Attorney at this time. The Attorney can file a lien and all legal fees will be billed back to the delinquent account.

Harris County LEASH LAW

Animals that are not properly restrained pose a threat to all our residents. While you may know your pet is friendly, an animal running at someone who is walking by is very scary for that person. Many children are afraid of animals and become frightened, which could result in the child getting hurt trying to avoid the animal.

Harris County Animal Control advises, “All dogs and cats must be kept under restraint while in the unincorporated areas of Harris County, Texas. The custodian of a dog or cat is not authorized to have, harbor or keep any unlicensed dog or cat, nor to allow any dog or cat to become a stray.”

Stop That Barking!

Dogs left alone all day get lonely, bored and restless. Many find relief in barking. Some respond noisily to any and all activity. Nothing is as annoying as incessant barking-even for dog lovers. If your dog is a yapper or a yowler, please consider some of these bark-abatement ideas to keep the noise down in your area. Your neighbors will thank you!

• Training. Always the first recommendation for any behavioral problem! Training not only helps your dog, you’ll be surprised how much it helps you, too. You may get some insight into why your dog barks so much or what it is trying to communicate.

• Citronella collars. A humane alternative to the electric-shock, antibarking collar and costs about the same.

• Confinement. Sometimes simply bringing an outspoken dog indoors or confining it to a crate cuts down on the disturbance to neighbors.

• For inside dogs, reduce stimulus. Close drapes to help muffle street noise or leave a radio on to mask it.

• Companionship. Dogs are pack animals; they need companionship-a cat, bird or another dog. Consider a mid-day visit from a pet-sitting service or drop your pooch off at a friend’s place or a day-care facility once or twice a week.

Scoop your pet’s poop

Please remember to be respectful of your neighbors’ yards and the community grounds. When you take your pet for a walk, come prepared with a scooper and a recycled grocery bag or anything else. If your pet poops during your walk, please scoop and trash. It may not be the most fabulous way to walk your pet, but it does show that you respect your fellow neighbors’ and our beautiful community.

The highly successful movie “Blackhawk Down” is based on his Army Company’s mission in Mogadishu, Somalia. In addition to speaking, Thomas is a recording artist with two critically acclaimed projects. The evening will include a Missing Man Table and Honors Ceremony, silent and live auctions and live entertainment. The CyFair Educational Foundation has awarded over 4.6 million dollars in student scholarships since the Foundation’s inception in 1970.

February 7th - PIE Student Mentor Training – 6 PM to 8 PM, Berry Center. Training for individuals committed to serve as a role model and friend to CFISD students. District approved mentors meet with students weekly during school hours on school campuses. Along with this two hour training, an application and criminal background check are required.

February 9th - VIPS General Meeting – 9:30 AM to 12 PM, Berry Center. Open to all CFISD volunteers, parents, staff and community members. Get the latest information on CFISD volunteering and learn through networking!

February 15th - VIPS Sooper Puppy Training – 9:30 PM to 11:30 AM, Berry Center. Sooper Puppy is a first grade class series dealing with age appropriate life lessons, facing dilemmas and arriving at solutions by making good choices.

February 16th - VIPS TAG Team Meeting – 9:30 AM to 12 PM, Berry Center. Informational meeting for individuals who are interested in working directly with students, to help them reach their full academic potential.

February 23th - Multicultural Meeting – 9:30 AM to 12:00 PM, Berry Center. Open to all CFISD school staff, volunteers, parents and community members. The purpose of the CFISD Multicultural Committee is to raise the level of cultural understanding and respect by sharing information with the CFISD community to encourage cultural sensitivity and parental involvement to strengthen student success.

Northwest Flyers Youth Track Club Begins 25th Season

The Northwest Flyers Youth Track Club will begin the 2012 season with its first practice during the week of February 13th. The team consists of boys and girls, ages 6 -18, provides a full program of track and field events and is affiliated with USA Track & Field (USATF).

The club was founded 25 years ago by Olympic gold medalist Fred Newhouse to foster the development of youth track & field in the Northwest Houston area.
