HELP KEEP OUR LIGHTS ON

Cinco Ranch Residents pay a maintenance fee where a large portion includes the electricity to light our streets. Each streetlight costs the Cinco Ranch Associations approximately $30 dollars a month. This fee is billed to us whether the light is working or not. If you see a light(s) burned out, please help us by getting the number on the pole. You may submit the work order to Centerpoint Energy or report it to the Associations Office. To report the outage yourself you will either fill out the form available at: www.centerpointenergy.com/outage or you can call the information into Centerpoint Energy at 713-207-2222. The electronic form is much faster as you won’t be put on “hold.”

MOLD & MILDEW

The shared use agreement was signed in October of 2009 through the end of 2013. At that time, the shared use agreement will be reviewed. All Recreation Facilities are open to both Cinco and Cinco Southwest Residents. This includes pools, tennis courts, parks, hike and bike trails and the Lake House Recreation Facility. There are charges for renting some of the facilities. Members must purchase their Pool Key Cards from their appropriate Management Company. If you live east of Katy Gaston Road, you are in the Cinco Association and can purchase your Pool Key Cards at 3022 Windemere Park Lane. If you live west of Katy Gaston Road, you are in the Cinco Southwest Association and can purchase your Pool Key Cards at the Lake House at 25202 Springwood Lake Drive.

Because of all the humidity in our area, many homeowners will start to notice a discoloration on the outside of their homes that can range in color from green and black to orange and gray. This is caused from mold or mildew deposits accumulating on the surface. This is a surface problem that can occur on siding, shingles, decks, patios, roofing materials, stucco, driveways and even concrete. When treated in a timely manner, it usually does not affect the strength or other important properties of the exterior surfaces, it simply looks bad. Some helpful suggestions to remove these stains that have been submitted from Cinco Ranch Residents are to clean with a mildewcide or to power wash. One Resident specifically suggested a product called Jomax, which can be purchased at Home Depot, Lowe’s or Ace Hardware. Jomax mixes with bleach and water and does not require the use of a power washer. Regardless of how you choose to remove the mold from your home, please always remember to read the instructions carefully and wear protective equipment.

CINCO AND CINCO SOUTHWEST SHARED USE AGREEMENT

Cinco has 7 pools available during the swim season. Starting in April, the Greenway Village pool will open. This pool stays open through the end of October. Cinco Southwest has two pools - The Lake House Pool and the Rosewood Pool. All of these pools are available for use by both Cinco and Cinco Southwest Residents.

PET LEASH LAWS IN THE CINCO RANCH AREA

FT. BEND COUNTY - LEASH LAW

Laws written to ensure that owned animals are confined to their property or kept on a leash make freeing a community of unrestrained and free-roaming animals easier. Although most dog bites occur on the property where the dog lives, unrestrained or free-roaming dogs do pose a substantial threat to the public. In addition, unrestrained animals are at increased risk of being bitten by rabies-infected wildlife. Enforcement of restraint laws is essential in enhancing the animal control program efforts to reduce the risk of rabies in our community. LICENSING OF DOGS AND CATS The primary benefit of licensing animals is identification, should that animal become lost. Licensing also: • Ensures that rabies vaccination are current • Allows for quick identification in case of a bite incident • Provides revenue to offset the administration costs of the animal control program VACCINATION Rabies vaccinations are a prerequisite for licensing dogs and cats because they are an important control measure for the public health threat of rabies. In addition to protecting pets, rabies vaccinations provide a barrier between infected wild animals and humans.

Cinco Ranch Residents report wounded to the proper agency, Wildlife Rehabilitators. How to Contact Wildlife Rehabilitators in our Area Fort Bend County - Wildlife Rehabilitation & Education Accepts: Mammals, birds, reptiles Location: Houston 713-861-WILD (9 AM - 6 pM); 713-643-WILD (after hrs.)

DO NOT FEED THE DUCKS!

Recently, signs have been added to the area surrounding the lake at Lake pointe advising residents not to feed the ducks at the park and lake. The duck population at Lake pointe is a concern and feeding the ducks is encouraging the ducks to loiter. The ducks are a part of nature and the lake is a natural area, but feeding the ducks in this manner causes a duck population growth and subsequently the mess that goes along with it. please keep this in mind the next time you are enjoying the park and lake.

SHERIFF’S VACATION HOME WATCH

Vacation Can Be Great! Make sure you return home and feel great. If you are going on vacation, a business trip or just going away for the weekend, please put your house on a vacation watch list. It only takes a few minutes to inform local police that you are away from home. Take measures to secure your home and cars. Let your neighbors know that you will be away and when you plan to return. Inform neighbors and law enforcement if you plan on having maintenance services stop by while you are on vacation. It is advised that you have newspapers stopped, mail held and any advertisement left on your property picked up by someone. Keeping lawn mowed for a normal appearance to the property will look as if there is active occupancy. Taking preventative steps may deter vandals or thieves from entering your home.

Log into the site or call the office to give appropriate information. Make sure to cancel the watch when you return home. Fort Bend County Residents: www.co.fort-bend.tx.us/vacationForm.asp. Harris County Residents: Call 713-221-6000 and give home information. Going out of town? Contact your sheriff’s Department to have them watch your home.

CINCO RANCH RESIDENTS

DO YOU HAVE THIS PHONE NUMBER IN YOUR CELL PHONE? Two phone numbers suggested you save in your cell phone are the nonemergency Harris County precinct 5 Constables and Fort Bend County Sheriff’s numbers. 911 should always be used in case of an emergency, but many times we need to contact the Sheriff’s Department and need to do so quickly. Don’t hesitate to call the Sheriff’s Department if something in your neighborhood seems questionable. This will give our contract deputies probable cause to investigate. This would include suspicious vehicles (vehicles exhibiting unsafe or erratic driving behavior), suspicious persons or behavior, activity at you neighbors home when you know they are on vacation and anything else that may be out of the ordinary in your neighborhood. Don’t take a chance on you or your family’s safety. Harris County precinct 5 Constables Fort Bend County Sheriff

Festival attendees may attend any of the daily performances and art exhibit with the purchase of a daily admission wristband. Shuttle buses will be available, at no cost to Festival attendees, for transportation from the local Katy hotels (which offer reduced rates to Festival participants and attendees) to the Festival and return them to their original point of departure. Daily admission wristbands will be available at the entrance to the Katy High School Performing Arts Center or in the lobby of the following Katy hotels located at the Katy Mills Mall area: Best Western Plus; Hilton Garden Inn; Springhill Suites, by Marriott and the Residence Inn, by Marriott. CROSSROADS mentors are regular people, just like you, who prevent or reduce youth involvement with the juvenile justice system by fostering positive mentoring relationships. The goal is crime prevention! Our mentors must be 21 years of age and volunteer a minimum of 1 hour a week. There are many sites, areas and available times of the week for mentors to meet with their assigned child. SIRE, HOUSTON’S THERAPEUTIC EQUESTRIAN CENTERS

The only time our clients say they feel free is when they’re riding a horse in a brisk walk around the arena or driving a carriage through the wooded pastures or feel the nudge of a horse’s muzzle at their shoulder saying, “I’m glad to see you, my friend.” Nothing else can compare with therapy on horseback. Equine-assisted activities improve physical balance and coordination, mental acuity, emotional stability and social interactions. At SIRE, we see miracles on horseback happen every day. The work of our dedicated volunteers helps guarantee that children and adults with disabilities in the Greater Houston Area will have the programs they need to live longer, healthier, more productive lives. In addition to their weekly work in the arena, many of our volunteers donate their time and talents at fund-raising events such as our annual Ride-A-Thon and the yearly Trailblazers Luncheon. Volunteers are on hand during the NARHA on-site certification and annual SIRE Show-Off and volunteers are vital to our Clients’ successes at the Top Hands Horse Show, during the Houston Rodeo and competition at the regional and state Special Olympics. Therapeutic horseback riding creates a bond of success between the rider and their horse. Volunteers are their own personal cheering section and the instructor is their mentor and coach. Clients become more empowered and better equipped to fully live their lives, each day. To volunteer, please call one of our arenas and ask to speak with a volunteer coordinator. AFFORDABLE WAYS TO HAVE A FUN SPRING BREAK AT HOME

If the closest you plan to get to a spring break getaway is watching it on MTV, you’re not alone. Gas prices have surged to an average of $3.55 a gallon, turning the idea of spring break into spring broke for many Americans. Oil has been trading above $100 a barrel for the last two weeks pushing airfares up as well. Jet fuel costs jumped by nearly 20 percent in January and according to a report by NPR, ticket prices have increased as much as 30 percent in recent weeks. If resting on the couch is more likely than resting on the beach this spring break, here are some affordable ways to have fun at home. Build a Home for Someone in Need - Don’t simply spend your spring break in front of the tube. Do something unforgettable with your time and help construct a home for someone in need. Connect with a local building project in your area through Habitat for Humanity. You’ll learn some new skills, help the less fortunate and maybe even work on that spring break tan. Go Camping - You don’t have to go to an exotic location to hunt down adventure. Chances are there’s something wild going on in your state or zip code. Get help finding it by heading to ReserveAmerica.com. Plug in a location and find the best camping spots available. Save even more money by borrowing gear from friends. Redecorate a Room - Instead of spending hundreds (or even thousands) of dollars on spring break travel, make an investment into your surroundings. Pick a room in your home and come up with a plan for redecorating it. Get free inspiration from the Before and After gallery at BHG.com. Then head to a thrift store, fabric outlet and home improvement warehouse to gather affordable supplies and tools. Knock Out Some Top Movies - Chances are you haven’t seen all of the movies on the IMDB (The Internet Movie Database) top 250 list. Knock out some of the best films of all time during your spring break vacation. Check for copies at your local library where you should find many of these hits for free. Explore a Trail - Take some time to discover a section of the more than 30,000 miles of bike trails, walking trails, equestrian trails, and hiking trails available with the help of Traillink.com. It’s a non-profit helping local communities convert unused railroad tracks into trails. You’ll probably be shocked at how many of these trail projects you can explore without leaving your state. It may not be the journey you were hoping to take this spring break, but at least you’ll be making the most of your time off. By Alison Storm
