Holiday Decorating

At this time of year, the stores are full of the holiday decorations for inside your home and out. So before you buy that wonderful decoration, remember the time frame for exterior decorating in Cinco Ranch. Per Article XII, Section 18, lights for the holiday season may be displayed two (2) months prior to and one (1) month after any commonly recognized holiday for which such lights are traditionally displayed. Decorating neighborhoods has become a Cinco Ranch tradition. Neighborhoods are transformed into enchanting displays of lights and ornaments. Please be aware of your decorations and how they will affect the neighborhood. Lights should be placed as not to impair traffic or your neighbor’s comfort. Timers on lights make it easy to guarantee lighting time. Large ornaments too close to sidewalks could cause a tripping hazard if knocked over by wind. A simple layout of your yard and decorations will help you eliminate hazardous possibilities. We all enjoy the holiday season and the decorations that add to the festivities. Please be aware of any additional items that are left in the yard that are not decoration, do not add to the holiday season and do not make our homes look the best they can. Your Cinco Ranch Maintenance Fees Are Due January 1, 2012

2012 Maintenance Fees are due on or before January 1, 2012. Residents may prepay fees or a portion of their fees at any time prior to the January 1, 2012 due date. The 2012 fees are $940 per household. In addition to the base assessment, gated communities will be assessed a neighborhood fee, please contact the Association Office for these fees. Statements were scheduled to be sent out in November 2011. If you did not receive your 2012 statement, please call or email us at 281-599-0408 or CincoRanchCustomerCare@PCMI-US.com. All payments made should be by personal check, cashier’s check or money order. No credit cards, debit cards or cash are accepted through the Associations Office. Checks should be made payable to CRPA with your property address clearly indicated. You may pay your fees online with a credit card, debit card or electronic check at www.PCMI-US.com. A credit or debit card convenience fee will apply. You will also need your account number to utilize this process. The number is located on your statement. Do I Need A Modification Approval for My Christmas Gift?

The holiday season is approaching and Residents are beginning to look at Christmas gifts for their family. Many stores are having sales on outdoor play equipment, built in kitchens and swimming pools. This is a good time to plan that addition to the back yard while the pricing is right. As you think about your gifts, please remember that a modifications approval is required for all exterior changes/improvements to include but not limited to basketball goals, trampolines, play structures/swing sets, swimming pools, hot tubs, outdoor kitchens and numerous other improvements to your property. Modification Applications are due the first Friday of the month. Meetings for approval are not held until the third Tuesday of each month. November and December meetings are rescheduled to help with that last minute Christmas purchase. All applications must be in by the first Friday of the month, but the meetings will be held on November 15th and December 13th for approvals before holidays. Applications are available online at www.CincoRanchLife.org or you may pick one up at the Association Office located at 3022 Windemere Park Lane, Katy, TX 77494. Reviewing the Supplemental Architectural Modification Guidelines for specific requirements about the modification you are applying for are also located online or at our office. I am pleased to report that per these efforts that a reduction of over 46% was achieved in the overall cost of the contracts. Commercial electric rates have come down significantly. This is a substantial savings for the residents and commercial properties throughout Cinco and will continue to assist with keeping assessments in check. The 2012 budget has been placed on the website www.cincoranchlife.org which will outline budget in greater details. When a number of vehicles park in the street, emergency vehicles have a difficult task maneuvering down the street. Due to the size and clearance needs of these emergency vehicles, a street lined with parked cars obstructs the passage and delays response time. While it is understood that during certain events, vehicles parking on the street is an unavoidable circumstance, please be aware of clearance needed for traffic. Ask your guests to park their car as close to curb as possible and not line both sides of the street. Be a courteous neighbor by communicating you are having a gathering at your home and may need additional parking. Ask if they would mind guests parking in front of their homes to help eliminate the congestion on the street. To assist the Emergency Services in their endeavors and help eliminate road congestion, we ask that Residents refrain from parking in the street. Fireworks Enforcement Christmas and New Yearâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Eve

Fireworks were banned over the 4th of July and due to the fire ban currently in force, they may be banned over the Christmas and New Year holidays. When a ban is in place, fireworks are against the law and should be reported to the proper authorities.

We receive many inquiries regarding fireworks enforcement. Fireworks are against Deed Restrictions and strongly discouraged. In the hands of amateurs, fireworks are dangerous. They can lead to burns, hearing loss and other injuries and, especially during times of near-drought, they can cause property damage. Where addresses can be identified, we will send letters to the property owners asking them to cease this type of activity and clean up the debris left behind. As required under the Texas Property Code, the property owner has to be given an opportunity to cure the violations or the opportunity to request a hearing within 30 days of the date listed on the letter.

The Association has put up â&#x20AC;&#x153;No Fireworksâ&#x20AC;? signs throughout the subdivision, as well as announcements on the websites in the hope that this will be a deterrent to homeowners violating this restriction.

The problem is that fireworks are not against the law in Fort Bend or Harris County. Until the County laws are changed so that it is no longer legal for individuals to shoot fireworks, the association has very limited enforcement ability with regard to fireworks. If you would like to see the County laws change with regard to fireworks, we encourage you to write to your County Commissioner and inform your respective Commissioner how you feel as a tax-paying citizen of the County regarding fireworks. This is a surface problem that can occur on siding, shingles, decks, patios, roofing materials, stucco, driveways and even concrete. When treated in a timely manner, it usually does not affect the strength or other important properties of the exterior surfaces, it simply looks bad. Some helpful suggestions to remove these stains that have been submitted from Cinco Ranch Residents are to clean with a mildewcide or to power wash. One Resident specifically suggested a product called Jomax, which can be purchased at Home Depot, Loweâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s or Ace Hardware. Jomax mixes with bleach and water and does not require the use of a power washer. Regardless of how you choose to remove the mold from your home, please always remember to read the instructions carefully and wear protective equipment. Help Keep Our Lights On

As daylight grows shorter, we notice the advantage of having all of the street lights working. Cinco Ranch Residents pay a maintenance fee where a large portion includes the electricity to light our streets. Each streetlight costs the Cinco Ranch Associations approximately $30 dollars a month. This fee is billed to us whether the light is working or not.

If you see a light(s) burned out, please help us by getting the number on the pole. You may submit the work order to Centerpoint Energy or report it to the Association’s Office. To report the outage yourself you will either fill out the form available at: www.centerpointenergy.com/outage or you can call the information into Centerpoint Energy at 713-207-2222. The electronic form is much faster as you won’t be put on “hold.” You can also report dim lights, leaning poles, etc. on the electronic form. Copy the email to the Cinco Ranch Residential Office at: CincoRanchCustomerCare@pcmi-us.com so we can keep the list of lights reported.

Winter Irrigation Tips/ Maintenance

By: Chris Brockman, Landscape Manager Although we have not hit the middle of winter, we are well into the winter season. After a long summer like we just had, one welcome reduction that can typically be looked forward to is the amount of time the irrigation system runs. In a typical year, the Houston area receives enough rain during the winter months that the irrigation can be cut back to one day a week tops and the Association even turns the irrigation system off in December and does not turn it on until weather demands require it the spring. If you choose to turn your irrigation system off in the winter, drain the water from the pipes to avoid freezing and cracking the pipes. This can be done by shutting off the back flow preventor and manually opening each control valve to allow whatever water is in the pipe to drain out. If you do this to prepare for winter, remember when you turn it back on in the spring to open the back flow preventor slowly to prevent the water from filling the mainline up to quickly and forcing any of the components to break due to water hammer.

General maintenance to the system should also be performed during the winter months. This time of year the grass has slowed or stopped growing, so lawn maintenance is not being performed as often so a few hours of checking all components of the system is a good idea. This includes checking for any mainline or lateral leaks, any valves that may be leaking inside the valve boxes and checking all the heads on the system to make sure none of them are broken, leaking or misaligned. All of these checkpoints can help you conserve water and irrigate your lawn as efficiently as possible. By doing this during the winter months, it will help you make sure the system is ready for use in the spring when your lawn begins growing again.

Traveling during the holidays can be a very trying event. Additional traffic, long lines at gas stations, airline security checks and the hustle and bustle of the season can cause for delays in travel. Take the extra time needed to prepare for these obstacles. Leave early and plan on being a little later that you would like. Check your luggage to make sure that it will travel well or go quickly through security. Make plane reservations that best suit your family. Traveling with children may take some extra planning. Plan your route to avoid major traffic areas. And please take the extra time to put your home on the vacation watch with Fort Bend or Harris County. One of the drop-off sites is the Association Office located at 3022 Windemere Park Lane. Katy Christian Ministries (KCM) was formed by the churches in the Katy area to help accommodate the needs of the community. This ranges from Social Services, Domestic and Sexual Abuse to the Food Pantry. There are several programs affiliated with KCM that benefit our community. Winterizing Your Home Preparing Your Home for Winter

(Source: About.com) The fall Equinox is a good time of year to start thinking about preparing your home for winter, because as temperatures begin to dip, your home will require maintenance to keep it in tip-top shape through the winter. Autumn is invariably a prelude to falling winter temperatures, regardless of where you live. It might rain or snow or, as David Letterman says, “Fall is my favorite season in Los Angeles, watching the birds change color and fall from the trees.” Did you know there is only one state in the United States where the temperatures have never dipped below zero? Give up? It’s Hawaii. Here are ten tips to help you prepare your home for winter: 1) Heating System Inspection • Call an HVAC professional to inspect your furnace. • Stock up on air filters and change them monthly. • Consider switching out your thermostat for a programmable thermostat. • Remove all flammable material from the area surrounding your furnace.

2) Get the Fireplace Ready • Cap or screen the top of the chimney to keep out rodents and birds. • If the chimney hasn’t been cleaned for a while, call a chimney sweep to remove soot and creosote. • Buy firewood or chop wood. Store it in a dry place away from the exterior of your home. • Inspect the fireplace damper for proper opening and closing. • Check the mortar between bricks and tuck-point, if necessary. 3) Check the Exterior, Doors and Windows • Inspect exterior for crevice cracks and exposed entry points around pipes; seal them. • Use weather-stripping around doors to prevent cold air from entering the home and caulk windows. • Replace cracked glass in windows and, if you end up replacing the entire window, prime and paint exposed wood. 4) Inspect Roof, Gutters & Downspouts • If your weather temperature will fall below 32 degrees in the winter, adding extra insulation to the attic will prevent warm air from creeping to your roof and causing ice dams. • Check flashing to ensure water cannot enter the home. • Replace worn roof shingles or tiles. • Clean out the gutters and use a hose to spray water down the downspouts to clear away debris. • Consider installing leaf guards on the gutters or extensions on the downspouts to direct water away from the home. 5) Service Weather-Specific Equipment • Drain gas from lawnmowers. • Replace worn rakes. • Clean, dry and store summer gardening equipment. • Sharpen ice choppers and buy bags of ice-melt / sand.

8) Prevent Plumbing Freezes • Locate your water main in the event you need to shut it off in an emergency. • Drain all garden hoses. • Insulate exposed plumbing pipes. • Drain air conditioner pipes and if your AC has a water shut-off valve, turn it off. • If you go on vacation, leave the heat on, set to at least 55 degrees. 9) Prepare Landscaping & Outdoor Surfaces • Trim trees if branches hang too close to the house or electrical wires. • Ask a gardener when your trees should be pruned to prevent winter injury. • Plant spring flower bulbs and lift bulbs that cannot winter over such as dahlias in areas where the ground freezes. • Seal driveways, brick patios and wood decks. • Move sensitive potted plants indoors or to a sheltered area. 10) Prepare an Emergency Kit • Buy indoor candles and matches / lighter for use during a power shortage. • Find the phone numbers for your utility companies and tape them near your phone or inside the phone book. • Buy a battery back-up to protect your computer and sensitive electronic equipment. • Store extra bottled water and non-perishable food supplies (including pet food, if you have a pet), blankets and a first-aid kit in a dry and easy-toaccess location. • Prepare an evacuation plan in the event of an emergency.

6) Check Foundations • Rake away all debris and edible vegetation from the foundation. • Seal up entry points to keep small animals from crawling under the house. • Tuckpoint or seal foundation cracks. Mice can slip through space as thin as a dime. • Inspect sill plates for dry rot or pest infestation. • Secure crawlspace entrances. 7) Install Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detectors • Some cities require a smoke detector in every room. • Buy extra smoke detector batteries and change them when daylight savings ends. • Install a carbon monoxide detector near your furnace and / or water heater.

• Test smoke and carbon monoxide detectors to make sure they work. • Buy a fire extinguisher or replace an extinguisher older than 10 years.

All Recreation Facilities are open to both Cinco and Cinco Southwest Residents. This includes pools, tennis courts, parks, hike and bike trails and the Lake House Recreation Facility. There are charges for renting some of the facilities. Members must purchase their Pool Key Cards from their appropriate Management Company. If you live east of Katy Gaston Road, you are in the Cinco Association and can purchase your Pool Key Cards at 3022 Windemere Park Lane. If you live west of Katy Gaston Road, you are in the Cinco Southwest Association and can purchase your Pool Key Cards at the Lake House at 25202 Springwood Lake Drive. The shared use agreement was signed in October of 2009 through the end of 2013. At that time, the shared use agreement will be reviewed.

E-blasts can consist of Association News and Announcements, Cinco Ranch Events, Local Area Happenings, Cinco Ranch Area Public Service Announcements, Severe Weather Alerts and much more. E-blasts can contain current information which is a benefit to the Association when immediate notices need to be sent to Residents. The Cinco Ranch Communication Committee under the direction of the CRPA Board of Directors has been working on better forms of communication for the Cinco Ranch Residents. The website offers the online experience of receiving news and information from your Association. Residents have a 24/7 connection to the Association Information and documentation. Legal Documents of all three Cinco Ranch Associations are available online. There is also local contact information that is area specific to Cinco Ranch. There are some online forms that will help you expedite your communication with the management company. Another feature that can be utilized is the online classified ad section. This is a free service and allows Resident the chance to list their treasures for sale. Several features have been built into the site to help our Residents. Animals that are not properly restrained pose a threat to all our residents. While you may know your pet is friendly, an animal running at someone who is walking by is very scary for that person. Many children are afraid of animals and become frightened, which could result in the child getting hurt trying to avoid the animal. Harris County Animal Control advises, “All dogs and cats must be kept under restraint while in the unincorporated areas of Harris County, Texas. The custodian of a dog or cat is not authorized to have, harbor or keep any unlicensed dog or cat nor to allow any dog or cat to become a stray.”

Restraint is defined as “the control of a dog or cat under the following circumstances: 1. When it is controlled by a line or leash not more than six (6) feet in length, if the line or leash is held by a human being, who is capable of controlling or governing the dog or cat in question. 2. When it is within a fully enclosed vehicle. 3. When it is on the premise of the custodian and the animal does not have access to sidewalk or street. While it may be nice to have your animal out in the yard while you work or play, it is against the law, unless the animal is properly restrained. Ft. Bend County - LEASH LAW

Laws written to ensure that owned animals are confined to their property or kept on a leash make freeing a community of unrestrained and free-roaming animals easier. Although most dog bites occur on the property where the dog lives, unrestrained or free-roaming dogs do pose a substantial threat to the public. In addition, unrestrained animals are at increased risk of being bitten by rabies-infected wildlife. Enforcement of restraint laws is essential in enhancing the animal control program efforts to reduce the risk of rabies in our community. LICENSING OF DOGS AND CATS The primary benefit of licensing animals is identification, should that animal become lost. Licensing also: • Ensures that rabies vaccination are current • Allows for quick identification in case of a bite incident • Provides revenue to offset the administration costs of the animal control program VACCINATION Rabies vaccinations are a prerequisite for licensing dogs and cats because they are an important control measure for the public health threat of rabies. In addition to protecting pets, rabies vaccinations provide a barrier between infected wild animals and humans. • Street Light Outages - Report to CenterPoint Energy via their website, thereby eliminating a lot of “hold time” on the phone. The website address is: www.centerpointenergy.com/outage. Give them as much information as possible, including the address and/or pole number. If you prefer to call, the number is 713-207-2222. • Street sign or stop sign down or missing - Please contact the county. The Harris County phone number is 281-463-6300 and Fort Bend County phone number is 281-341-9562. Let them know you are calling regarding a sign and they will transfer you to the proper person. They will need to know the street name and location. If you are in a custom area, please contact the Association office at 281-599-0408. • Broken curb - If you live in Ft. Bend County, call Road & Bridge at 800690-ROAD (800-690-7623) and if you are in Harris County, you can call 281463-8703 for Service Requests & Road Maintenance. If you see any curbs needing repair around the islands in the Cul de Sac or along the boulevards, please call and report these, too. If you live in a gated section, the streets and curbs are maintained by the association with funds from the separate assessment billed annually. On a related note, the driveway “apron” is the responsibility of the individual property owner, no matter who maintains your street. Also, the sidewalks adjoining residential lots are the responsibility of the owner. Recently, signs have been added to the area surrounding the lake at Lake Pointe advising residents not to feed the ducks at the park and lake. The duck population at Lake Pointe is a concern and feeding the ducks is encouraging the ducks to loiter. The ducks are a part of nature and the lake is a natural area, but feeding the ducks in this manner causes a duck population growth and subsequently the mess that goes along with it. If you are going on vacation, a business trip or just going away for the weekend, please put your house on a vacation watch list. It only takes a few minutes to inform local police that you are away from home. Take measures to secure your home and cars. Let your neighbors know that you will be away and when you plan to return. Inform neighbors and law enforcement if you plan on having maintenance services stop by while you are on vacation. It is advised that you have newspapers stopped, mail held and any advertisement left on your property picked up by someone. Keeping lawn mowed for a normal appearance to the property will look as if there is active occupancy. Taking preventative steps may deter vandals or thieves from entering your home. STEPPING INTO THE FUTURE SCHOLARSHIPS

Drs. James Jacobs and Nicolas Manriquez, of Your Total Foot Care Specialist, are pleased to announce, two $1,500 “Stepping Into The Future” scholarships for 2012 KISD graduating seniors. Applications must be submitted to the offices of Your Total Foot Care Specialist by March 29, 2012, 5:00 PM. A third party committee will select the two winning applicants. The “Stepping Into The Future” scholarship program is available to seniors graduating with GPA’s ranging from 2.5 to 3.7. The scholarships are geared towards those students showing academic promise through a combination of demonstrated academic achievement and leadership potential. The two “Stepping Into The Future” scholarship recipients will be announced at the Katy ISD Awards Ceremonies during May.

KEYS Mentoring

One mentor, one student, one hour per week. KEYS brings adult role models into Katy ISD schools to motivate, encourage and inspire students on the brink of success. Mentors meet with their student on campus at a pre-designated time each week. As mentor and student build their relationship, they decide together how to spend their mentoring time. Whether spent playing games, reading or just talking, that one hour a week makes a tremendous difference in the life of a child. KISD Receives Top Rating in Schools FIRST Financial Accountability Rating System

Katy ISD has earned a rating of Superior Achievement under the Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas (FIRST) for the 2009-2010 fiscal year. Katy ISD has received this top rating for each of the nine years that Texas districts have been rated through Schools FIRST. Schools FIRST is a statewide rating system created to ensure that school districts are held accountable for the quality of their financial management practices, while achieving improved performance in the management of their financial resources. The Schools FIRST accountability rating system assigns one of four ratings, with the highest being Superior Achievement, followed by Above Standard Achievement, Standard Achievement and Substandard Achievement. Approximately 784 out of the 1,029 school districts in Texas received the Superior Achievement rating this year.

SUPER BOWL COMES TO GRIFFIN ELEMENTARY

Over 200 5th graders played in Griffinâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s 5th annual Super Bowl. The large crowd of families, teachers and fellow students enthusiastically supported the football teams. Since the beginning of term MGEâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s P.E. coaches have taught students the rules, team positions, strategy and tactics. Excitement about the game has been building for weeks. Enthusiastic teams of boys and girls hustled on and off the field, called their own plays and enjoyed

participating in a thrilling competition. The boys’ Green Giants and the girls’ Orange Crush teams were victorious. But the day was really about celebrating sport, teamwork and having a blast. The fabulous half time performance by 5th grade teachers and the Beckendorff Jr. High cheerleaders added to the fun. As did the Griffin Grizzly bear mascot acting as the assistant referee. Griffin is one of only two Katy elementary schools to host a Super Bowl. It’s a major undertaking and Griffin would like to thank Richmond Bone and Joint, Ozarka and PTA volunteers.

Record Sales at Griffin Elementary Book Fair

Students and their families spent a record $35,273 at the Scholastic Book Fair held in the Library. Griffin’s share of the sales was $8,800. This winwin fundraiser means students have great books to read and school has additional funding. Librarian Mitzie Cross plans to spend the extra cash on: organizing three authors to meet students at school; more books for the Library; accelerated reader tests and prizes; and new technology equipment. Whole families had the opportunity to shop together in Griffin’s library, as the school was celebrating Grandparents week.

Beck Junior High held its International Festival on October 7th. Students had a great time seeing artifacts from around the world and tasting international foods.

On October 21st, Kindergarteners at Williams Elementary School got to dress up in their best clothes to learn all about good manners, sharing and friendship at the Good Manners Tea Party. Everyone had a great time at this fun, yearly event.

Heroes for Children Award presented to Katy ISD Volunteer

On September 16, 2011, Melissa Mozer of Katy was presented the Heroes of Children award by the State Board of Education. Mozer has been a volunteer for 12 years at Cinco Ranch High School in Katy ISD. She has served as an executive board member of the CRHS Athletic Booster Club and chaired the club’s scholarship committee, a representative on the Katy PTA Council and has worked with Project Graduation for all four of her children. Mrs. Mozer also has been the “Popcorn Mom” for the last 10 years supporting the Cougar Commitment/POWER program, the Katy ISD drug awareness program that benefits all the high schools in the district. She is currently the Choir Booster Club board president, a member of the PTSA and Project Graduation boards, respectively. The State Board of Education honors 15 volunteers from school districts across Texas with this award. The Heroes for Children honorees are selected by the State Board members and recognized for volunteering their time, talents and skills to help improve public schools in their communities. Each hero will also have their name engraved on a plague that is permanently displayed at TEA headquarters. The awards are given annually in recognition of outstanding service and dedication to helping provide each Texas student with a meaningful, positive learning experience in school.

Friday, December 2nd - BRAVO Show Choir Snowball Social 7:30 PM in Main Commons. This Coffee House program features our talented Bravo show choir performing Holiday favorites. Tickets at the door $5 and includes desserts and coffee. Thursday, December 8th - All Choir Winter Concert 7:30 PM in the Performing Arts Center. Men’s Choir, Cantiamo, Bel Canto, Chorale and Bravo will perform music of the season in a traditional concert setting. The program is a great way to kick off the holiday season. CRHS Choir Students Advance to Region

Congratulations to all of the Cinco Ranch High School Choir students who earned a spot in the Texas Music Associations Region 23 District Choir. These students have earned the honor to audition for the Region Choir and will be practicing diligently in the next few weeks to earn a chair in this prestigious ensemble. September 26th Cinco Ranch High School swimmers take time out of the pool to make sack lunches for “Feed the People” at Living Word Lutheran Church in Katy, TX. Lunches are distributed to day laborers in the Katy area and for many; this is the only meal of the day.

On Saturday October 15th, the Cinco Ranch High School Robotics Team 624 (Team “CRyptonite”) held the first of their pre-season safety training sessions. The team holds these before the FIRST® Robotics Competition (FRC®) build season, which begins in January when the new game challenge is revealed and the team then has 6 weeks to build a new robot. The training sessions are a way to stay involved with robotics during the fall off-season and to instruct new members so they have the knowledge and skills to

work on the robot when the build season begins. Returning members also attend, to help teach the new members and to work on off-season projects. The team also spent time decommissioning some old robots to reuse parts for their upcoming season. Team 624 will be competing in Houston at the George R. Brown Convention Center on April 5 - 7, 2012. Cinco Ranch High School’s Team 624 (Cryptonite) Robotics competes in the FIRST Robotics Competition. The FIRST program encourages the development of technical, analytical and engineering problem solving skills. Students learn to take a complex task and use critical thinking and creativity to overcome challenges. The competitions combine the excitement of sports with science and technology to create a unique varsity Sport for the Mind™. These Seven Lakes High School Elves are getting ready for an evening of holiday festivities on Friday, December 9, 2011. Community members are invited to join us at Seven Lakes High School for the 7th Annual Holiday Extravaganza. This lovely evening will feature entertainment by the talented students of the SLHS Fine Arts Department. There will be a performance of beautiful and festive music at 7:30 PM in the Performing Arts Center. The performance is free and open to the public. Band, Orchestra and Choir groups will be featured. The Seven Lakes Spartan Band Percussion Section earned a 1st place finish at the Foster High School Drumline Contest on September 24th. 2011 - 2012 SLHS JV Squad Cheer Camp / Honors

The Seven Lakes High School Junior Varsity Cheerleaders attended the UCA cheer camp this summer hosted at Moody Gardens. The JV squad received 1st place honors for Extreme Routine Dance as well as 1st place in the cheer category. The squad sponsored by Coach Jaime Wilson also received recognition as All Around Superior Squad of the Week. Cinco Ranch High School student Christin Vogel Earns Silver Award

Christin Vogel, a member of Girl Scout Troop 17229, recently earned the Girl Scout Silver Award, the highest recognition a Cadette Girl Scout can achieve. Her project consisted of conducting book drives and creating activity kits. Christin held two different book drives. The children’s books were donated to the Harris County Hospital District. The teens’ books were donated to the Krause Center in Katy. The activity kits were assembled and divided according to age and gender; they benefitted the children coming into Texas Children’s Hospital West Campus Emergency Center. Christin also donated band-aids, stickers and bubbles to the TCH Emergency Center. Christin completed her Silver Award project earlier this year, while she was in the eighth grade. Christin is currently a freshman at Cinco Ranch High School.

Cinco Ranch High School student Andrew Vogel Earns Eagle Rank

Andrew Vogel, a member of Boy Scout Troop 73, recently earned the rank of Eagle Scout. For his Eagle project, Andrew resurfaced part of the walking trails of the Houston Arboretum and Nature Center. By covering up the existing crushed concrete with decomposed granite, the resurfacing project offers universal accessibility to people in wheelchairs, children in strollers and emergency vehicles. Andrew has held numerous leadership positions within his troop, such as Senior Patrol Leader, Patrol Leader and Order of the Arrow Representative. He is a Brotherhood member of the Order of the Arrow. He has also earned over 100 merit badges. Andrew completed his Eagle project earlier this year, while he was in the tenth grade. Andrew is currently a junior at Cinco Ranch High School. Troop 73 is chartered through Memorial Lutheran Church of Katy.

PACK 542 HONORS THOMAS PARK WITH A TREE FOR ARBOR DAY

Thomas Park in Old Katy will be a little more colorful this fall thanks to efforts of the Cub Scouts of Pack 542. The Scouts spent a sunny Sunday afternoon planting a tree in honor of Arbor Day. Not only will the tree planting help beautify Thomas Park, but it helped the Scouts develop a sense of community involvement and giving back through service to the community. The kids put some effort into life and they will see the benefits down the road, especially when they return to visit the Park after many years.

Pack 780 Cub Scouts Tour Texas Children’s Hospital

The Webelos Den (10-year-olds) from Cub Scout Pack 780 recently toured the Emergency Room of the West Houston campus of Texas Children’s Hospital. Dr. Todd Johnson, a physician at the hospital and a father of one of the Scouts, led the tour. While in the hospital, the boys learned about different life saving equipment and procedures and also practiced first aid techniques.

On October 15, 2011, the KYF Senior Varsity Saints football players wore pink socks, pink mouth guards and pink sweat bands and the cheerleaders wore pink socks and pink hair ribbons to represent Breast Cancer Awareness month. The boys & girls loved representing a great cause and the team went on to win their game 35-22.

facility and vocational program for adults with disabilities. The bike rally or BW15 provided residents with a fun, inclusive bike ride. Some Brookwood residents rode tandem bikes with volunteers from the churches. Others rode independently on either regular or specially modified bikes. Church members from the Katy 3rd and 4th wards, two congregations from the south Katy area, provided food and drinks for the participants. The LDS volunteers also came to support the residents with cheering and encouragement. After the bike rally, the Katy churches provided a carnival with games and activities for the residents at the Brookwood community. This event was part of a broader Houston-wide “Day of Service” in which many Houston area Latter-day Saint congregations participated. The Brookwood community is located in Brookshire, Texas and provides an educational environment that creates meaningful jobs, builds a sense of belonging and demands dignity and respect for adults with disabilities. Houston Professional Fire Fighters Local #341 will begin their 2012 Fill-the-Boot fundraising campaign for the Muscular Dystrophy Association on Saturday February 11, 2012 during the hours of 10 AM and 2 PM. Fire Fighters will also be out March 10th, April 14th and May 12th to collect funds for the campaign. CROSSROADS mentors are regular people, just like you, who prevent or reduce youth involvement with the juvenile justice system by fostering positive mentoring relationships. How would you feel if you saved a kid’s life? StandUp For Kids is an all volunteer organization dedicated to saving the lives of at-risk and homeless kids through volunteer outreach efforts. Our volunteers search the streets in order to find, stabilize and otherwise help homeless and street kids improve their lives. Every day throughout the US thirteen kids die on the streets from abuse, disease and suicide. According to recent statistics Houston has up to 2,500 kids living on the streets at any given time. Texas has the highest rate of homeless youth in the U.S. StandUp For Kids needs supplies for our Houston program, which provides food, clothing, counseling and a safe environment for the homeless youth of Houston. Animal Information Harris County Animal Control ordinance

Residents of Harris County must be aware of the regulations adopted by Commissioners Court to meet the standards of the “Texas Rabies Control Act of 1981.” This ordinance, enforced by Veterinary Public Health (formerly called Harris County Animal Control) is designed to protect the health and welfare of Harris County residents. • Requires the annual vaccination and registration of all dogs and cats four months of age and older. • Requires dogs and cats to be physically restrained at all times, without access to the sidewalks and streets. NOTE: As of April 15, 2003, Harris county commissioners Court has approved an amendment to the Harris County Regulation on rabies vaccinations for dogs and cats. The regulation now state the following: Currently vaccinated is defined as: An animal that has either (1) been vaccinated for rabies within the last 12 months; or, (2) received 2 rabies vaccinations within 12 months of each other and the latter of these 2 rabies vaccination having been with a 3-year vaccine. • Sets a REGISTRATION FEE for all dogs and cats: $15 LIFETIME: for neutered dogs and cats. Proof of neutering required. $15 LIFETIME; for dogs and cats belonging to persons 65 years of age or older. •NOTE: All pets with lifetime registration must be vaccinated yearly against rabies. $75 Triennial License: for dogs and cats with qualifying vaccination status. Must provide proof of two rabies vaccinations within 12 months and the last vaccination must be with an licensed 3-year vaccine. $25 ANNUAL: fee for all other dogs and cats. $5 REPLACEMENT fee for Harris County tag. Sets an IMPOUNDMENT FEE plus a boarding fee to be charged for each animal picked up. Owner may also be issued a citation for allowing the animal to run loose. OTHER • Impounded animals shall be kept three days to allow the owner time to redeem them. • The occupant/head of household of any premises on which a dog or cat remains for a period of seven days is presumed to be the owner of that animal.
