Bradford Colony 1 & 2 (BC 1&2) SPRING tIme SPRuCe uP The weather has warmed up and it’s time for beautifying our yards. Spring time is best time to plant some flowers and green up the lawn. Most of our lawns have taken a beating last year due to the drought and hot weather. It is easier to establish a healthy lawn, flower beds and shrubs during spring time. We have a very nice park in our subdivision and let’s all do our part to keep it clean and all the equipment in good condition for all to enjoy. Please take all trash with you as you leave and clean up after your pets. Be a responsible neighbor and continue to make our neighborhood a safe and enjoyable one. Please do not forget if you want to make repairs or renovation to your home such as new roof, sidings, painting, landscaping, you will need to get approval from the Board of Directors. You can obtain the form from our management company, complete and submit it and you will be notified of the approval. Contact Esquire Community Management at 281-444-9250.

APRIL 21 ST - CIRCLE THE DATE! TWO NEIGHBORHOOD EVENTS (BCS3) SPRING FLING The HOA will be hosting its Spring Fling event on Saturday, April 21st, starting around 5:30 PM. This neighborhood event is the first of its kind to be held for a couple years and every effort will be made to make it a well-attended and successful event. The HOA will be providing BBQ and refreshments for this event. Residents are being asked to bring a small complimentary dish or some snacks to supplement the food inventory. There are also plans to have activities for the kids to help keep them entertained during the get together as their parents mingle and visit. The goal of this event is simple - to get as many BCS3 residents as possible to attend the event and meet and mingle with their neighbors! Aside from having a relaxing get together, events of this type encourage the awareness of the neighborhood and subsequently serve to improve the safety and security of our small part of Northwest Houston. There have been over a dozen new residents who have moved into the neighborhood over the past couple of years. So let’s mark this date, round up the kids and stop by the Spring Fling to meet your neighbors and catch up on what has been happening. Look for more details as to this event in the days leading up to April 21st.

If as you read this newsletter item you still haven’t paid your 2012 Assessment, you are strongly encouraged to contact our management company (ACMP) at 281-855-9867 as soon as possible and talk to our agent (Theodora Daly) about making arrangements to address this issue.
(BCS3) LANDSCAPING AND YARD OF THE MONTH The Yard of the Month awards will start to be announced in April. Already many of the yards in BCS3 are looking very good as the residents get them spruced up after this past winter. As everyone knows, last year’s drought conditions severely damaged many yards and lawns in our neighborhood. Because of these severe conditions, the HOA asked the management company (ACMP) to suspend DRV’s for lawns that had been browned out and damaged by the severe weather conditions.

The Board is certain that all the BCS3 residents will be getting their yards and lawns looking as good as possible as quickly as possible this spring. Hopefully, we will not experience severe drought conditions in 2012 so that all the hard work that will be done will be preserved through the year.

(BCS3) 2012 ASSESSMENT UPDATE
As we have had a very wet yet mild winter, it is time for all BCS3 residents to work on restoring their lawns and yards to the great condition in which they used to exist. Parallel with these restoration efforts, ACMP will resume sending out DRV’s as necessary for landscaping related issues. For March and April, these DRV’s will only be “warnings. Starting in May, any landscaping related DRV’s will be action items that will need to be corrected as quickly as possible.

(CHC) YARD Of THE MONTH IS BACK! Well, Spring has sprung and so has our monthly YOM tradition. It’s not easy keeping our yards looking the way we want during the Winter months. And lately it seems the huge weeds are winning, some are almost like small trees! But as I looked out my garage one morning and I noticed that our neighbors at 14206 Towerglen Court had the most colorful and cheerful flowers in their front yard. This couple continuously keep their yard looking nice but this was such a refreshing pop of color that it stopped me; I had to ask myself why I hadn’t noticed it before. You know the old saying “stop and smell the roses?” I think that is exactly what it means, slow down and find the beauty. So, kudos to these long time residents for being our first 2012 Yard of the Month winners.

deed-restriction violations are paid for out of the dues money. Our management company fees and insurance are paid with these dues. Remember the dues for our neighborhood are about half that of other neighborhoods. We don’t have the cost of a pool or recreation center. We also pay reduced management company fees thanks to our own homeowners who volunteer their time by serving on our Board. A complete accounting of the bills is distributed at our annual homeowners meeting which is the first Wednesday in October. DebbieKay can probably give you more information. Remember, non-payment just adds to the amount you eventually owe.

You can find the deed restrictions (.pdf format) for our neighborhood on the SCS Management website, www.scsmgmt.com/hoa/ cha1.asp. Compliance with deed restrictions is a great way to help save the neighborhood money (no letters mailed to homeowners if there are no violations!), keep the neighborhood looking good and help our resale values. Trees, including palms, need to be property trimmed; grass needs to be mowed and edged; flower beds need to be free of weeds. One of the biggest sources of violations is trashcans left out for days. Trashcans are not to be stored anywhere that they are visible from the street. Trashcans are not supposed to be put out before trash day (Monday and Thursday mornings) and need to be removed from the curb the same day as trash pick-up. As the weather improves, remember to get Architectural approval for outside jobs. House painting and fence replacement are both governed by architectural provisions in the deed restrictions. Turnaround time for a request is pretty quick - usually not more than a few weeks. Find the form at www.scsmgmt.com/Acc-App.scs.pdf. Remember to keep saving “Box Tops for Education” for Horne Elementary. You can find information and coupons at: httwww. boxtops4education.com/earn/clip/coupons.aspx.

It is always a good idea to check the Harris County MUD 102 website (www.hcmud102.com) for any notices about outdoor water restrictions. We submit the contents of this newsletter well in advance of its publication, but at the moment this article is submitted, the HCMUD 102 website has a ‘Drought - Water Restrictions Notification’ link that outlines active Voluntary Water Restrictions. Please see their web site for more information. That website also lists garbage collection holidays. It may be a ways away, but Memorial Day, May 28th, is the next garbage collection holiday. Please try to keep that in mind as the date approaches. Pool sign up for the upcoming season will occur in April. Don’t forget, HOA dues must be current to receive pool tags.

(JC) FIX UP/SHAPE UP Yards of the month will start being awarded this month, so it’s time once again to do some work on our yards, resodding where necessary after our drought year last year & fertilizing judiciously. You don’t need to fertilize more than twice a year--once in early fall & again in the spring. Use a good organic fertilizer, if possible and use a proper spreader, not a shovel to apply it. Fertilizer, used in excess, just washes into the sewers & eventually into the Gulf, causing dead zones. We look forward to seeing all the spring flowers & fresh new landscapes after our weird, wet winter.
(JC) RESIDENTS SURVEY Director Steve Villarreal asks all residents to go to the website, www. jamestowncolony.com and spend just a few minutes to complete the 2012 online residents survey. We need to hear your voice about the direction you want us to take in the new year.
(JC) HOA ASSESSMENTS DUE NOW Remember that your homeowner assessment was due January 1st and begins to accrue late fees and penalties after January 31st. You can either send a check to ACmP based on the 2012 statement sent to you or you can pay online at www.jamestowncolony. com (if you pay online, you are responsible for any service fees for your online payment). If you can’t pay the entire assessment at one time, contact ACmP at 281-855-9867 to arrange a payment plan. As long as you make such arrangements and stick to the payment plan, you will not be assessed penalties and late fees. Remember that your assessment will be larger this year and next until we get the new perimeter fence paid off.

Please leave this on the side of your house or in the back and put out on the curb Sunday NIGHT/ Monday Morning OR Wednesday NIGHT/ Thursday Morning. Also, ask your yard man to try to come on a day close to trash day and again, please ask him to put yard trash bags on the side of the house. It would be greatly appreciated if you respect this request. Boy Scout Troop 10 meets every Tuesday night during the school year at the West Houston Church of Christ on West Road and Queenston. Our meetings begin at 7 PM. We spend our time working on merit badges, planning for our monthly camp outs and having fun!! The older boys had a great time camping at Pedernales State Park last month. They were able to hike, Geocache and work on several outdoor skills. The new Pedro Scouts also camped at Bear Creek Park. This was their introductory camp out that helped prepare them for the longer camp outs to come. We finished out the month with our 1st Annual Red and Tan Banquet! The boys participated in a table-decorating contest, won door prizes and ate delicious BBQ provided by Weatherly Catering! After the banquet we switched gears and began our semi-annual Court of Honor. The boys and parents were very proud as we watched several of them advance in rank. If you have a son in the 6th grade or higher that would like to join in the fun and adventure please contact us. Our Scout Master is Michael Widaski and his number is 713-376 5166. You can also contact our Committee Chairperson, Joseph Jefferson, at 281-684-5197 or check our website at www.bsat10.com.

The pop show PIZAZZ on February 24th and 25th was a huge success! Musical numbers from Grease, Sister Act, Newsies, Oh Brother, Where Art Thou?, Hairspray and High School Musical filled the stage for a truly entertaining evening. Performances were polished, sets were vibrant, costumes clever and our students dazzled us with their lively spirit. The Varsity Men’s and Women’s choirs, along with Acapella and Chamber choirs were melded together fantastically and masterfully in two weeks for an event that left you feeling happy and wanting more. Great job to all the behind the scene helpers, the baking parents, the costume making mom’s and our amazing choir directors! You pulled off yet another smashing, scene stealing show! BRAVO! We would like to thank our student teacher that has been a wonderful part time addition to the teaching and directing of our choirs. Mr. Matthew Perez joined our team in partial fulfillment of his degree plan. While working with our students, he gained respect and admiration that will be carried with him as he continues his musical journey. His time at Cy-Falls will no doubt enhance his future career and his presence will be missed.

“I’m In PAIN” Can Chiropractic Help ME ? We are often asked, “What’s the best way of finding out whether or not a doctor of chiropractic can help my problem?” We believe the answer can be found in a complete chiropractic consultation and examination, including x-rays. And to help find out for sure, we will do a complete consultation and examination, including x-rays, if necessary, (procedures that normally cost $187.00 or more) for $25.00. We will make this special program available through APRIL. The only exception to the offer involves personal injury cases (workers’ compensation and auto accidents) in which there is no charge directly to the patient.

IMPORTANT DATES APRIl 6Th – STuDENT/STAff hOlIDAy NATIONAL STUDY OF EDUCATION FOUNDATIONS TOP 20 IN THE NATION IN SUPPORTING PUBLIC EDUCATION CY-FAIR EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION RANKS NUMBER 15 A recent national study of education foundations and funds in the 50 largest school districts ranks the Top 20 education foundations/funds in the nation is supporting public education. Duplicating the same study done in 2005, this year’s study used school year 2009-2010 data (most recent year available) from the Form 990 (page one) that non-profits use to report financial information. It also assessed and compared most of the same performance categories as the 2005 study. First, the study analyzes the effectiveness of an education fund/foundation at generating and sustaining financial resources to serve the students of its school district. “The rationale is that the more financial resources a foundation can generate the more services and programs it can provide to enhance the public school experience for students,” said Dewey Caruthers, president of Dewey & Associates, a 13-year-old management consulting firm that conducts occasional studies in education, juvenile justice and public health. Second, the study assessed the effectiveness of distributing financial resources, taking into consideration the number of students in its school district. “We wanted to see the amounts of financial resources these organizations distributed through programs to help students,” Caruthers said.

A new topic added to this recent study was the role of volunteers. “The ability to grow and sustain large numbers of volunteers is an asset for a foundation, which can be leveraged many different ways to improve public schools,” Caruthers said. Specifically, the recent study compared the following variables: - Long-term financial sustainability (total assets, assets per student, investment income) - Fundraising/revenues (total revenues and revenues per student) - Program expenditures (total program expenses and program expenses per student – both less salaries and benefits) - Volunteers (total volunteers) The overall Top 20 was the collective scoring of all eight performance categories. The foundations that appeared in the Top 20 in the most categories were ranked highest, emphasizing the importance of being well-rounded.
H-E-B SITE VISIT FOR EXCELLENCE IN EDUCATION AWARD H-E-B site judges visited CFISD as a finalist for the 2012 H-E-B Excellence in Education award. This recognition is designed to honor outstanding public schools. The award will be announced in May and the winning district will receive $100,000. In addition to visiting two campuses, Cy-Fair High School and Cypress Lakes High School, the judges met with a group representing community members, business partners, volunteers, parents, teachers and students. One of the district’s strengths is its broad base of community support. Those in attendance articulated their confidence in the district in providing a quality education, which has become a longstanding tradition and hallmark of the Cy-Fair community.
13
Our guests witnessed a diverse student population that was engaged in a well-balanced curriculum that includes core subjects, technology, electives and extracurricular activities. Very aware that CFISD is the third largest district in Texas and the largest “Recognized” district, the judges saw first-hand how a community pulls together and works with dedicated staff members to ensure student success in a climate of financial challenges. The award announcement is important, but more impressive is the ownership those of us who live and work in Cy-Fair take in our school district. This is what sets us apart from other districts.

PURPLE UP! FOR MILItARy KIdS Friday, April 13th April marks the nation’s “Month of the Military Child,” a time to honor youth impacted by deployment. In celebration, Texas Operation: Military Kids (OMK), part of the 4-H Youth Development program of Texas AgriLife Extension, invites you to join us for the 2nd annual Purple Up! For Military Kids. We are encouraging everyone across the state of Texas to wear purple on Friday, April 13th, as a visible way to show support and thank military children for their strength and sacrifices. Purple is the color that symbolizes all branches of the military, as it is the combination of Army green, Coast Guard blue, Air Force blue, Marine red and Navy blue. OMK hopes everyone will take this opportunity to appreciate and celebrate these young heroes. Be creative….the goal is for military youth to actually see the support of their community! Need some ideas to get you started? .

The Fire Fighters rely on support and donations from the community for the success of the campaign. Proceeds raised during the street-side campaign will help support MDA services and research programs, including MDA’s outpatient clinics at Texas Children’s Hospital and The Methodist Neurological Institute. Money raised from Fill-the-Boot also sends young people ages 6-17 to MDA summer camp, held in Burton, Texas. wwii airCraFt Fly-in anD open House On Saturday and Sunday, April 21st & 22nd those big, old airplanes with the mighty round engines will be flying again as the Commemorative Air Force’s West Houston Squadron presents its 2012 Open House at Hangar B-5, West Houston Airport. Get up close and feel the prop wash and hear the noise as radial engines power these WWII aircraft. See some the old planes your father, grandfather or grandmother learned to fly for World War II. April 21st & 22nd from 10 AM until 5 PM.
It’s official, Houstonians through the Houston Fire Fighters raised a record breaking $509,961 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association making them the #1 Fill-the-Boot department in the country for the last 9 out of 10 years raising more than $6.3 million during that time.
A $10 donation per car earns you a day of aircraft and military vehicle displays, museum exhibits and fun. See the West Houston Squadron’s Lockheed C-60 paratroop transport (flying today after a 7 year restoration), the Basic, Primary and Advanced trainers, the CAF Gulf Coast Wing’s B-17 and tactical fighters from the Lone Star Flight Museum, as well as other CAF and privately owned fly-in WWII aircraft. Talk to the pilots who flew them then and fly them now.
For more than 50 years fire fighters have helped MDA by filling their boots with donations from the citizens of their community. Houston Professional Fire Fighters Local #341 will continue their 2012 Fill-the-Boot fundraising campaign for the Muscular Dystrophy Association on Saturday, April 14th and May 12th during the hours of 10 AM and 2 PM to collect funds for the campaign.
West Houston Airport is located at 18000 Groeschke Rd., 2 miles north of 1-10 and between Hwy. 6 and Barker Cypress. Food, drinks, gifts and souvenirs will be available.
