COPPER LAKES BAGGED CLIPPINGS AND YARD WASTE

It has come to the attention of the HOA that many residents/ homeowners place bagged yard clippings on the curb prior to the appropriate time when such items can be placed there for trash pick. As pointed out in Section 6.6 of the Deed Restrictions: “...container may he placed in a designated area for garbage or trash

pickup no earlier than six o’clock p.m. on the day preceding trash pickup of such garbage...” If you cut your own grass and bag the clippings please leave them at the curb in accordance with the day and time of the deed restrictions. If you have a service cut your lawn and they bag your clippings, please consider asking them to mulch the clippings instead of bagging. If they do bag, please do not leave the bag at the curb unless it is in compliance with Section 6.6 of the Deed Restrictions. Most experts agree that it is better to leave the clippings on your lawn as they return nutrients and it is much easier than bagging. By mulching your grass clippings you are also saving time for you and the trash pick contractors as well as preserving landfill space. The Full Text of Section 6.6 is below: SECTION 6.6. RESTRICTIONS ON GARBAGE AND TRASH - No refuse, garbage, trash, lumber, grass, shrub or tree clippings, plant waste, compost, metal, hulk materials, scrap, refuse or debris of any kind shall be kept, stored or allowed to accumulate on any Lot except within an enclosed container of a type, size and style approved by the Board and appropriately screened from view, except that any such container may he placed in a designated area for garbage or trash pickup no earlier than six o’clock p.m. on the day preceding trash pickup of such garbage and trash and shall he returned to an enclosed structure or an area appropriately screened from view no later than midnight of the day of pickup of such garbage and trash.

COPPER LAKES TENNIS COURTS

Many residents are already enjoying the refurbished tennis courts. This summer, we replaced the chain link fence and resurfaced the courts. New nets were purchased and the light posts were painted. We also plan to install new benches. If you have not yet seen or enjoyed them, check them out. Remember, the courts are for Copper Lakes residents and guests. They must be relinquished for scheduled league matches of Copper Lakes teams. To preserve them for everyone, it is important that the courts be used for tennis only. They are not for soccer, skateboards, skates, etc. Access is with the same card you use for the pools.

SECURITY REPORT - COPPER LAKES

To keep everyone in Copper Lakes better informed about the kinds of incidences occurring on your street or near your homes, we are recommending our Copper Lakes neighbors take advantage of the following resources: www.crimereports.com - Zoom-in to Copper Lakes to see what is happening in our neighborhood. The incidences are recorded by the HCSO. To get the most out of the site, it’s a good idea to register after which you will be able to open the website starting in Copper Lakes and have access to historical data as well. Take some time to familiarize yourself with all of the features on the website. It’s a valuable asset. www.iwatchharriscounty.com - Download this smart phone app and start reporting incidences directly to the HCSO without having to wait in line on the HCSO non-emergency hot line 713-221-6000. 713-221-6000 - This is the non-emergency HCSO phone number for reporting suspicious activity. Please report everything every time you see it. This will give the HCSO statistical trends for Copper Lakes, so they can adjust their patrol accordingly. 911 - Use this number anytime you feel threatened or in danger or you think someone else might be in danger. copperlakes.nextdoor.com - This free website is for Copper Lakes residents to stay informed about incidences occurring in our neighborhood - as well as the neighborhoods adjacent to Copper Lakes. www.facebook.com/groups/231835823536719 - This Copper Lakes Facebook page is another informative place to stay in contact with your neighbors and discuss issues relevant to Copper Lakes. Please make a note of all house addresses around your home even the ones behind your backyard. And create a map of these addresses. This is very important because if you ever need to call 911, the Dispatcher must have a real street address for the incident.

47+ YEARS EXPERIENCE

Residents can now place pictures and information for lost and found animals under the neighborhood pictures tab of the Copper Lakes website, www.copperlakes.com. If you have lost or found a pet, please use this great tool to let the neighborhood know and hopefully reunite the pet with their family.

We are often asked, “What’s the best way of finding out whether or not a doctor of chiropractic can help my problem?” We believe the answer can be found in a complete chiropractic consultation and examination, including x-rays. And to help find out for sure, we will do a complete consultation and examination, including x-rays, if necessary, (procedures that normally cost $187.00 or more) for $25.00. VETERINARY PUBLIC HEALTH LEASH LAW Animals that are not properly restrained pose a threat to all our residents. While you may know your pet is friendly, an animal running at someone who is walking by is very scary for that person. Many children are afraid of animals and become frightened, which could result in the child getting hurt trying to avoid the animal. Veterinary Public Health (formerly called Harris County Animal Control) advises that “All dogs and cats must be kept under restraint while in the unincorporated areas of Harris County, Texas. The custodian of a dog or cat is not authorized to have, harbor or keep any unlicensed dog or cat or to allow any dog or cat to become a stray.” Restraint is defined as “the control of a dog or cat under the following circumstances: 1. When it is controlled by a line or leash not more then six (6) feet in length, if the line or leash is held by a human being who is capable of controlling or governing the dog or cat in question or 2. When it is within a fully enclosed vehicle or 3. When it is on the premise of the custodian and the animal does not have access to sidewalk to street.” While it may be nice to have your animal out in the yard while you work or play, it is against the law, unless the animal is properly restrained. Let’s all help keep our community a safe and comfortable place for all our residents by being responsible pet owners. This will not only protect anyone who may be walking or bicycling in the area, but also the pet owner who could be held legally responsible or possibly sued for failing to properly restrain their pet.

HARRIS COUNTY ALARM DETAIL

In order to increase compliance and spread awareness, our office is requesting your assistance in informing residents in your community through your HOA newsletter or your scheduled HOA meetings of the need to obtain a permit for operating an alarm system, residential or business, within unincorporated Harris County. Many residents and businesses are unaware of the requirement to obtain an alarm permit once an alarm system has been installed and activated by the alarm company. Alarm systems are established and defined in the Local Government Code 233 (subchapter D), as well as the authority to regulate, adopt rules and impose penalties for unpermitted locations. Obtaining the required permit will avoid the issuance of a citation and excessive false alarm fees. The fee for current permit issuance is $35 with a yearly renewal fee of $10. All permit fees are waived for senior citizens 65 years or older. Under current guidelines, a permitted location is allowed five (5) free false alarms annually. Any subsequent false alarms during your permitted year are subject to a $75 fine that is billed to the permit holder’s address. If a site has an active alarm system, yet does not have a permit to operate such alarm, a false alarm may result in a Class C citation, which could range up to $500. Should you or your residents require a copy of the permit application form, or would like to review the regulations regarding permit requirements, you may do so by visiting the Harris County Sheriff’s Office website at www.hcso.hctx.net. The application can be printed from the website, then completed and mailed to our office with the applicable fees. We are currently in the planning stages of making the application and payment process available on-line for the convenience to the public. Should you have any questions, please contact the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Alarm Detail at 713-7554600 M-F, 8 AM- 5 PM. If you would like any of our Alarm Detail personnel to attend one of your HOA meetings, we would be glad to attend and answer as many questions as possible.

Thanks to everyone who made the 2nd Annual Lobo Band Chili CookOff a huge success! The fund raising event was held on February 27th in the LCHS Commons. Our guests had a great time sampling several varieties of delicious chili prepared by cook-off teams made up of color guard and band sections. They were also treated to a raffle and a huge assortment of baked goods courtesy of our generous band and color guard families. The chili tasters were asked to cast a vote for their favorite chili. At the end of the day, 1st place went to the Trombones, 2nd place went to the French Horns, 3rd place went to the Trumpets and the Color Guard were voted Taster’s Choice. Congratulations to all of the participating teams and we offer a special thanks to the cook-off sponsors for donating your time and materials. We’ll see y’all next year!

GIRL SCOUTS OF SAN JACINTO COUNCIL COPPER CREEK MEADOWS COMMUNITY

Our Girl Scout Cookie sale for 2016 concluded on March 20th. Hope you stocked up, as there will be a long wait before cookie time rolls around again! Many thanks to all our cookie volunteers and to all the troops who participated. We appreciate the support of our friends and neighbors. ! Money earned from the annual Cookie sale funds individual troop activities and supports Council programs and camps. Some of our troops really made their cookie booths special. Members of troop 113035 had a cookie booth on Valentine’s Day and report that they sold 200 boxes in 2 hours. These Girl Scouts really enjoy dressing up. They represented Vietnam at our World Thinking Day event and took part in our cafeteria-size Friendship Circle. The World Thinking Day event drew almost 200 girls (and their leaders). Each troop represented a different country and presented national costumes, music, food and crafts at their booths. They also had some great swaps! Stick on mustaches, crepes and chocolate lollipops that were shaped like the Eiffel tower were featured at the “France” booth. Maracas made from plastic spoons and Easter eggs accompanied Fiesta costumes at the Mexico booth the special collars and headdresses seen at the Egypt booth looked as if they had come from the King Tut exhibit. Beautiful costumes, bright colors and lots of smiling faces made traveling “around the world” as easy as moving around the cafeteria! Our event started off with a flag ceremony and recitation of the Girl Scout Promise and finished up with a Friendship Circle and singing “Make New Friends.” We also collected donations for the Juliette Low World Friendship Fund. Our STRIDERS event brought an afternoon of track and field events, with families coming out to cheer on their daughters. Girls jumped rope, ran in individual and relay races, threw softballs and jumped in standing and running events. We also had a few snacks to keep

Copper Lakes

up our strength for all those activities. Our spring Leader/Daughter event in Wimberley featured “Art in Bloom” crafts and activities, as well as the Talent Show, Dutch oven Cook-off and all our usual fun activities. Horseback riding and rock climbing, kayaking, shopping and eating the results of the Dutch Oven Cook-Off are all part of this exciting weekend. Cadette Troop 16435 reports that they attended the “Be an Upstander” event at the Holocaust Museum. They earned the ‘Science of Happiness” badge and the Interact award towards the “Amaze Journey.” April will be a busy time for our Cadette, Senior and Ambassador Girl Scouts, with activities such as Cadette Weekend, Scouts at SAM and Girl Scout Law Day. Some of these older Girl Scouts will also be participating with adults as delegates to the annual Council Meeting. Daisy Troop 113049 reports that they made “blessing bags” to be handed out to those in need. We are getting close to the end of the school Scouting year, with a Bridging Ceremony planned for May, as troops move on to the next Girl Scout level. Summer brings resident, day and twilight camps and the chance to learn new skills, have fun and make new friends. Some of our troops are also looking forward to the Girl Scout Night Sleepover at the Sugarland Skeeters stadium; they will be taking part in a parade around the stadium, enjoying the game and pitching their tents on the field afterwards! Girl Scouting is open to all girls ages 5 (must be in kindergarten) through 18 who are willing to accept the Girl Scout Promise and Law. Girls may join at any level and no previous Scouting experience is required. BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA COPPERHEAD DISTRICT

For 100 years, Scouting programs have instilled in youth the values found in the Scout Oath and Scout Law. Today, these values are just as relevant in helping youth grow to their full potential as they were in 1910. Scouting helps youth develop academic skills, selfconfidence, ethics, leadership skills, outdoor skills and citizenship skills that influence their adult lives. The Boy Scouts of America provides youth with programs and activities that allow them to: • Try new things. • Provide service to others. • Build self-confidence. • Reinforce ethical standards. Scouting provides youth with a sense that they are important as individuals while promoting activities that lead to personal responsibility and high self-esteem. As a result, when hard decisions have to be made, peer pressure can be resisted and the right choices can be made. Scouting provides a rewarding experience for boys ages 5 to 21. Scouting through the local Packs and Troops teach outdoor and life skills which help our youth Be Prepared. Your area is serviced by the BSA Sam Houston Area Counsel - Copperhead District which includes 23 Cub Scout Packs (boys 5 to 10 years old), 13 Troops (boys from 11 to 18 years old) and 10 Venturing units (boys and girls from 14 to 21). Our Units typically meet weekly. Many of our units are supported by the local Elementary Schools including: Birkes, Copeland, Duryea, Fiest, Hemmingway, Holmsley, Horne, Jowell, Lowery, Metcalf, Owens, Postma, Robinson, Sheridan, Tipps, Walker and Wilson. Other Community groups include: Autumn Creek Baptist Church, Beck and Masten Automotive, Cornerstone United Methodist Church, Copperfield Church, Crossbridge Church, Cy-Fair Kiwanis Club, Deerfield Village HOA, LDS Bear Creek and Copperfield Wards, Middlegate Village HOA, Peace Community Church, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church and Thornton Middle School. Please contact Angelita Guerrero, Copperhead District Executive (713-756-3389 or email angelita.guerrero@scouting.org) or to go www.copperhead.shac. org to find join a Scouting unit near you.

The Cy-Fair Express Network (CYFEN) will host the 8th Annual Cy-Fair Women’s EXPO at Sterling Country Club at Houston National. We are so excited to share some of the exciting plans we have for our annual expo. Besides giving vendors a place to showcase their products and services, the goal for our expo year is to get the community more involved and show the Cy-Fair area what ABWA and CYFEN is all about. One of the ways we are doing this is to have dynamic round table discussions focusing on health and wellness, communication, relationships and personal finance. Our Keynote speaker will be ACTION 13 CONSUMER Reporter Patricia Lopez who focuses on saving you money through her daily “Stretch Your Dollar” segments on ABC13. You can join Patricia’s presentation at 12 Noon. Vendor registration is now open. We only take 2 business types per category and NO two businesses can be exactly the same. We only have 50 vendor tables available so reserve your spot now! There are also a very limited number of sponsorship opportunities still available. For more information about the Expo or about CYFEN, please go to CYFEN.org or email expovendor@cyfen.org.

CHILDREN’S CHOIRS PRESENT: “BLAST OFF!”

The Children’s Choirs of Cornerstone United Methodist Church will be presenting their musical “Blast Off!” on Sunday, April 24th at the 10:45 AM service. Told with props, set and costumes, “Blast Off!” tells the story about kids who dream of being astronauts, traveling through space and learning of God the Creator’s marvelous creation. With help from various stars, planets, a cantankerous robot and the wise and patient Flight Commander, Mr. Houston, they learn that the God who created the stars and the heavens is the same God who loved the world so much that He sent His son to die for them, wants to have a relationship with them and with Him nothing is impossible.

The “God & Church” study leads scouts in the 6th through 8th grades on a three to five month faith journey with three parts: meeting Jesus, worshiping God and witnessing and ministering for Christ. The women’s group will begin a study His Name is Jesus, Life and Power in the Master’s Ministry by Pastor and Author Jack Hayford. His Name Is Jesus focuses on the life of Jesus as seen in Matthew, Mark and Luke. It shows how Jesus fulfilled Old Testament prophecy and how to understand key parables and other teachings of Jesus. Learning the importance of applying His words to our lives, we’ll explore Christ’s earthly ministry as seen in His titles and discover more fully what it means to follow Him as Savior and Lord.
