Harris County Flood Control should be done with preparing the property by April or May of 2012. At that time, the work will begin on the actual park. The park will take approximately 3 months to complete and will include the following:

1. Family picnic and playground area with playground areas for older and younger kids, picnic tables and protective fencing around the retention pond. The main entrance for this park will most likely be off Wheatcross behind the volleyball facility.

2. Hiking/Biking Trail around the entire perimeter of the property with exercise stations throughout. The trail is approximately 2.25 miles in length.

3. Dog Park - this will be located on the side of the property farthest north from our homes. The dog park entrance will be off Barker Cypress along the current utility lines and will have a designated parking area.

Currently, there is a street from Section 15 that dead ends into the park property. The county is willing to either make that a pedestrian entrance for easy access to the park for our residents or fence it off completely to prevent non-residents from entering our neighborhood from the park.

Pick-up services are on Wednesday and Saturday mornings.

Remember that trash containers and bags - including those left by lawn crews - should not be put out until 6:00 PM the night before and removed as soon as possible after pickup. Between pick-up days, containers MUST be stored from view. Although the recycling service has been discontinued, there are newspaper drop-offs at local schools.

Harris County Alarm Detail

In order to increase compliance and spread awareness, our office is requesting your assistance in informing residents in your community through your HOA newsletter or your scheduled HOA meetings of the need to obtain a permit for operating an alarm system, residential or business, within unincorporated Harris County. Many residents and businesses are unaware of the requirement to obtain an alarm permit once an alarm system has been installed and activated by the alarm company. Alarm systems are established and defined in the Local Government Code 233 (subchapter D), as well as the authority to regulate, adopt rules and impose penalties for unpermitted locations.

Obtaining the required permit will avoid the issuance of a citation and excessive false alarm fees. The fee for current permit issuance is $35 with a yearly renewal fee of $10. All permit fees are waived for senior citizens 65 years or older. Under current guidelines, a permitted location is allowed five (5) free false alarms annually. Any subsequent false alarms during your permitted year are subject to a $75 fine that is billed to the permit holder’s address. If a site has an active alarm system, yet does not have a permit to operate such alarm, a false alarm may result in a Class C citation, which could range up to $500.

Should you or your residents require a copy of the permit application form, or would like to review the regulations regarding permit requirements, you may do so by visiting the Harris County Sheriff’s Office website at www.hcso.hctx.net. The application can be printed from the website, then completed and mailed to our office with the applicable fees. We are currently in the planning stages of making the application and payment process available on-line for the convenience to the public. Should you have any questions, please contact the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Alarm Detail at 713-7554600 M-F, 8 AM- 5 PM. If you would like any of our Alarm Detail personnel to attend one of your HOA meetings, we would be glad to attend and answer as many questions as possible.

Veterinary Public Health LEASH LAW

Animals that are not properly restrained pose a threat to all our residents. While you may know your pet is friendly, an animal running at someone who is walking by is very scary for that person. Many children are afraid of animals and become frightened, which could result in the child getting hurt trying to avoid the animal.

Veterinary Public Health (formerly called Harris County Animal Control) advises that “All dogs and cats must be kept under restraint while in the unincorporated areas of Harris County, Texas. The custodian of a dog or cat is not authorized to have, harbor or keep any unlicensed dog or cat or to allow any dog or cat to become a stray.”

Restraint is defined as “the control of a dog or cat under the following circumstances: 1. When it is controlled by a line or leash not more then six (6) feet in length, if the line or leash is held by a human being who is capable of controlling or governing the dog or cat in question or 2. When it is within a fully enclosed vehicle or 3. When it is on the premise of the custodian and the animal does not have access to sidewalk to street.”

While it may be nice to have your animal out in the yard while you work or play, it is against the law, unless the animal is properly restrained.

Let’s all help keep our community a safe and comfortable place for all our residents by being responsible pet owners. This will not only protect anyone who may be walking or bicycling in the area, but also the pet owner who could be held legally responsible or possibly sued for failing to properly restrain their pet.

Light Pole Not Working?

Do you have a street light out in your neighborhood? Our community pays a fee monthly to our electric provider for every light pole in our community. The fee is a combination of electricity cost and

maintenance fee and it is paid whether the light is working or not!

It is up to each of us as residents to report outages. Here’s how to do it: 1. Write down the number posted on the light pole that is out.

2. Call Reliant Energy at 713-207-2222.

3. Select English (1) or Spanish (2).

4. Select Option #4 which includes reporting street lights out.

5. Provide the customer service representative with the location and pole number.

Langham Creek Cheerleaders

The Langham Creek Cheerleaders would like to congratulate the fightin’ Lobo football team for advancing into the playoffs this year.

It was a great, fun season and we are looking forward to next year.

On November 17th, several of the Lobo cheerleaders visited the Grace Care Center of Cypress, a skilled nursing facility, to help the residents enjoy a wonderful Thanksgiving feast. They served up a bountiful meal for the residents and then sat down and enjoyed spending time with them while they ate. Way to get in the holiday spirit by helping others, Girls!

Did you catch the cheerleader halftime performance at the Lady Lobo basketball game on Tuesday, November 29th? It was just a preview of things to come - the cheerleaders ramp up the courtside basketball cheers starting in January!

Greeting Cards Made by Orphans

On Friday, November 4, 2011, former Langham Creek High School graduate, Derek Shaw, the Texas State University-San Marcos McCoy College of Business organization SIFE supported orphans in Rwanda, Africa by selling Christmas cards that were handmade by the orphans.

SIFE stands for Students in Free Enterprise and has paired with True Vineyard Ministries to create one of SIFE’s life changing projects, called “Cards From Africa.” SIFE is a global, non-profit organization that is literally changing the world through highly dedicated student teams on more than 1,600 university campuses in 40 countries. This project not only helps SIFE students develop marketing skills through the sales process, but also changes innocent lives in a country of conflict and disease.

Through the “Cards From Africa” project, SIFE has the opportunity to sell creatively unique, handmade cards made out of recycled paper to provide these orphans with education, health, food and shelter.

Texas State SIFE is one of the leading collegiate teams within the United States. SIFE has been helping others achieve their dreams through free enterprise education for more than 25 years. Today, SIFE is the world’s prominent and largest university-based free enterprise organization.

Using Service Learning to Practice Math Skills Preschoolers Collect 366 Food Items for Needy Cypress Families for Thanksgiving

For the month of November, teachers at Montessori Preschool at Copperfield introduced service as a way to inspire math-readiness in preschool children. By collecting cans and non-perishable food items for needy Cypress families, children (ages 18 months to 6 years) practiced counting skills, place value, addition and subtraction at an advanced level at an early age in the name of service.

Children established a goal of collecting 65 food items in a month

and surpassed their goal by 301 in two weeks. Teachers aided the counting process, introducing place value to understand the value of three-digit numbers and tracking total donations on a large chart. Kindergartners practiced three-digit addition and subtraction problems to account for the total number of food items. All food items will be donated to Cypress Assistance Ministries for Thanksgiving.

In addition, students were taught the value of service and sharing, especially in tough economic times when it is difficult to give freely.

Rosehill Christian School Boys Basketball Team Wins Conroe Covenant Tournament

With the sting of losing in the finals of the Irving Cistercian Tournament still fresh on their minds, the RCS Boys came out strong and defeated #3 ranked Austin Waldorf 47-37 in the title game of the Conroe Covenant tournament.

Keith Self tied for a team high 13 points with John Ogle, going a perfect 5 for 5 from the field including 3 for 3 from three point range.

To get to the finals, Ogle led the team in scoring with 25 points in the semi-final match against host Conroe Covenant. It was RCS’s first win against the school in three years.

Rosehill Christian School pre-schoolers participated in a Trike-aThon October 28th. The children gathered pledges from family and friends to raise money for new playground equipment. Fun was had by all as they rode around the brightly decorated gymnasium on their tricycles. The students enjoyed a teddy bear picnic, moonwalks, face painting, crafts and more. With a record of 10 wins, 2 losses, #2 ranked RCS is off to their best start in four years after being just one basket away from a TAPPS 3A final four appearance last season.

In a smothering display of defense, the RCS Eagles held Waldorf to just l0 points in the first half, leading 24-10 at the break. Jimmy Courtright led the team with 7 rebounds. ln addition to Courtright and Ogle, guard Wayne McCullough was also named to the all tournament team. RCS was the only school with three players selected to the squad. At the Cistercian tournament, Ogle and McCullough were also named to the team after leading the team to the title game.

To get to the finals of the Covenant tournament, RCS defeated Woodlands Prep Academy 63-48 in the first round and were led the way by Ogle and Courtright contributing 20 points each, ln the second round, they routed Calvary Baptist 81-24, after leading 52-14 at the half. RCS was led in rebounding by Jeremy Michel, Ogle and McCullough all chipping in with 8 rebounds.

Boy Scout Troop 10 meets every Tuesday night during the school year at the West Houston Church of Christ on West Road and Queenston. Our meetings begin at 7 PM. We spend our time working on merit badges, planning for our monthly camp outs and having fun!! The Boys had a great time at our annual Christmas party where they played games and had delicious snacks! We took a short break for the rest of the year but are back strong and preparing for our next camp out to Enchanted Rock State Park in Central Texas. The boys will work on climbing, hiking and basic camping skills. Rumor has it that there will even be some cave exploration involved! The boys do a great job of decorating our floats every year and look forward to riding in them in the parade. We also had our Pushmobile races in December and had a great time watching the boys race up and down the track. The race is something the boys look forward to every year as well!

Jordan Merecka was born with multiple congenital heart defects, including Dextrocardia (his heart was on the wrong side of his chest). As a child, he experienced two open chest surgeries, several surgical revisions and an implantable defibrillator. For many years after his early surgeries, Jordan was able to live an active childhood.

As a teen, he enjoyed hunting and fishing with his father and at school, he participated in FFA (Future Farmers of America). But, in September 2010, Jordan’s heart began to fail and he was placed on a waiting list for a heart transplant. With medical treatment, he was able to attend school as he waited. At the start of 2011, the senior at Cypress Woods High School was looking forward to three major milestones in his life: his prom on May 27th, his eighteenth birthday on May 29th and his graduation on June 5th. In April 2011, his health took a turn for the worse and he was admitted to Texas Children’s Hospital with heart failure symptoms and kidney insufficiency. He critically needed a heart transplant. Over the weekend of May 21st, all of his organs began to fail acutely and he could not breath on his own because his heart was so weak. On May 22nd, Jordan received the Total Artificial Heart that saved his life. Jordan missed his prom, but thanks to a diligent heart-failure team and the availability of the artificial heart, he celebrated his birthday at Texas Children’s on May 29th - a week after his surgery. On June 5th, Jordan watched his graduation ceremony online while his 16-year-old sister walked across the stage to accept his diploma on his behalf. His class rose to their feet for a standing ovation. Jordan has been accepted at Texas A&M University Galveston and looks forward to studying marine biology. But for now, Jordan’s focus is on gaining his strength and being ready for his new heart.

Currently we meet the first Thursday of most months at West Houston Church of Christ at 7:00 PM for social time and refreshments, followed by a program at 7:30 PM. The church is located at the corner of Queenston and West Road. Our monthly meetings are not only educational and enjoyable, but they develop lasting fellowships. This year’s Northwest Private School Preview is set for Sunday, January 29, 2012 from 3:00 to 5:00 PM at the Cypress Creek YMCA located on 19915 SH 249 @ Cypresswood Drive. This event provides a community service for families from throughout northwest Harris County and southern Montgomery County, including the FM 1960 area, Spring, The Woodlands and Tomball. It’s official, Houstonians through the Houston Fire Fighters raised a record breaking $509,961 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association making them the #1 Fill-the-Boot department in the country for the last 9 out of 10 years raising more than $6.3 million during that time.

For more than 50 years fire fighters have helped MDA by filling their boots with donations from the citizens of their community. Houston Professional Fire Fighters Local #341 will begin their 2012 Fill-theBoot fundraising campaign for the Muscular Dystrophy Association on Saturday February 11, 2012 during the hours of 10 AM and 2 PM. Fire Fighters will also be out March 10th, April 14th and May 12th to collect funds for the campaign.

The Fire Fighters rely on support and donations from the community for the success of the campaign. Proceeds raised during the street-side campaign will help support MDA services and research programs, including MDA’s outpatient clinics at Texas Children’s Hospital and The Methodist Neurological Institute. Money raised from Fill-the-Boot also sends young people ages 6-17 to MDA summer camp, held in Burton, Texas.

DivorceCare (for adults) and DivorceCare (for Kids) will be starting at St. Cuthbert Episcopal Church. These programs provide Christcentered help for adults and children (grades 1-6) struggling with the hurt and pain of divorce and separation. La Leche League is an international nonprofit, nonsectarian organization dedicated to providing education, information, support and encouragement to women who want to breastfeed.

Breastfeeding is a simple and natural process, but you may need support and information on the correct positioning of the baby at the breast, working and breastfeeding, avoiding problems and overcoming any difficulties that may occur. Knowing other women who have breastfed their babies can be helpful and reassuring.

Having accurate, up-to-date information is also important. Attending La Leche League meetings can help you learn about breastfeeding from other nursing mothers. We are a chapter of the International MOMS Club, which is a national, nonprofit organization that gives at-home mothers the opportunity to share activities and discussions with other mothers and their children.

MOTHERS OF YOUNG CHILDREN (MYC)

The moment a newborn baby wraps their tiny hand around a parent’s finger is a pivotal moment in the life of any parent. The baby not only tugs on the finger, but on the parent’s heart as well.

It is in that awesome moment that the parent begins to understand the unconditional and abounding love that God has for each of us.

But soon after the little miracle arrives so do all the questions and sometimes, without any clear answers.

The Mothers of Young Children (MYC) group was organized by St. Cuthbert Episcopal Church to minister to families with young children throughout the Northwest Houston community. Both stay at home and working parents are invited to participate in the group. The group supports and prays for one another, shares information and ideas on child rearing and builds lasting friendships. Most importantly, MYC’s focus is on God and God’s presence in families. Residents of Harris County must be aware of the regulations adopted

by Commissioners Court to meet the standards of the “Texas Rabies Control Act of 1981.” This ordinance, enforced by Veterinary Public Health (formerly called Harris County Animal Control) is designed to protect the health and welfare of Harris County residents.

• Requires the annual vaccination and registration of all dogs and cats four months of age and older.

Vaccinated within the last twelve months, or; Vaccinated within the last 36 months provided that the animal was vaccinated twice within 12 months and the last vaccination was with a licensed 3-year vaccine.

• Requires dogs and cats to be physically restrained at all times, without access to the sidewalks and streets.

• Sets a REGISTRATION FEE for all dogs and cats: Updated 8/2011 $15 LIFETIME: for neutered dogs and cats. Proof of neutering required. $15 LIFETIME; for dogs and cats belonging to persons 65 years of age or older.

•NOTE: All pets with lifetime registration must be vaccinated yearly against rabies. $75 Triennial License: for dogs and cats with qualifying vaccination status. Must provide proof of two rabies vaccinations within 12 months and the last vaccination must be with an licensed 3-year vaccine

• Violators of any provision of this order are guilty of a misdemeanor and are subject to a fine of up to $200 in a Justice of the Peace Court.

Animals that are not properly restrained pose a threat to all our residents. While you may know your pet is friendly, an animal running at someone who is walking by is very scary for that person. Many children are afraid of animals and become frightened, which could result in the child getting hurt trying to avoid the animal.

Veterinary Public Health (formerly called Harris County Animal Control) advises that “All dogs and cats must be kept under restraint while in the unincorporated areas of Harris County, Texas. The custodian of a dog or cat is not authorized to have, harbor or keep any unlicensed dog or cat, nor to allow any dog or cat to become a stray.”

Restraint is defined as “the control of a dog or cat under the following circumstances: 1. When it is controlled by a line or leash not more than six (6) feet in length, if the line or leash is held by a human being, who is capable of controlling or governing the dog or cat in question 2. When it is within a fully enclosed vehicle 3. When it is on the premise of the custodian and the animal does not have access to sidewalk or street.”

While it may be nice to have your animal out in the yard while you work or play, it is against the law, unless the animal is properly restrained.

Let’s all help keep our community a safe and comfortable place for all our residents by being responsible pet owners. This will not only protect anyone who may be walking or bicycling in the area, but also the pet owner who could be held legally responsible or possibly sued for failing to properly restrain their pet.

The Sounds of Cypress Band, formerly known as the Cy-Fair Community Band, is producing beautiful sounds, having fun as a group and seeking new members who just love to play music. The Cy-Fair Community Band was initiated about three years ago, with approximately five or six musicians coming together to explore their common interest in music and their enjoyment of playing together. They have grown to 33 members who just love to play music and share their talents for the enjoyment they get from playing. They have evolved into an accomplished group of band members and have recently changed their name to Sounds of Cypress. DeeDee Flores is director of group. By day she is a band director at Plummer Middle School. Her ability has led the group to develop polished performances, which they are anxious to share.

This accomplished group is ready to perform for group events. They have a great program of musical selections. Also, they can tailor their selections to the interests age of your group.
