JOIN US ON FACEBOOK Copperfield Crime Watch has launched the “Copperfield Safety and Security Facebook” page. You may reach the page by clicking on the Facebook graphic on the Copperfield website at: www.copperfield.org/watch.php. We encourage residents to “Like” the page to get regular updates and information to protect their possessions, property and family. In addition, we will be posting community safety and security events as they are scheduled. Since the Facebook page was launched we have over 440 people following the updates, tell your Copperfield friends to join us.

REMINDER

As a reminder, it is critical to be able to recognize something that is out of the ordinary. Although many residents don’t know all their neighbors, they usually know a few. They also become familiar with patterns of living, like when people leave for work, the cars normally seen in a driveway, etc. It is these patterns that become what we consider “normal.” Whenever we see something that is not normal, it should warrant our attention. It may be a vehicle parked in a driveway or street, it may be someone walking on the street from house to house or it may even look like someone who is working on a project. If anything looks suspicious, call the Sheriff. If someone knocks on your door, make certain you know who it is, before you open the door, it if sounds out of the ordinary call the Sheriff. If you in any way think something may be suspicious, call it in to the Sheriff. The Crime Watch Committee also asks you to consider becoming involved in our Crime Watch program. You may contact your village representative listed on the Copperfield website, in the Copperfield newsletter or visit one of our monthly committee meetings (dates listed on Crime Watch tab of Copperfield.org website). You may also visit the Copperfield Safety and Security Facebook page.

Copperfield Place Village (CPV) A WORD FROM THE BOARD

We remind you to review your deed restrictions and if at any time you would like clarification, you may contact SCS management or attend the next Board meeting. Check the Copperfield website for time and date for our next meeting.

(CPV) POOL & PARKS COMMITTEE

Please take a moment to read posted signs. Parents please remind your children that the playground is for small children and that they must also watch out for the children’s safety at the park. DOGS / PETS: We have had many complaints where homeowners walking their pets are allowing them to do their business on the sidewalk itself! This has to be stopped. When you walk you pet, please be considerate of others who use the sidewalks for walking or jogging. Pick up your pets business if it happens to be done on the sidewalk. No one likes to step on this!

(CPV) NEIGHBORHOOD CRIME WATCH

CRIME WATCH COMMITTEE When you observe someone that doesn’t seem to be in the right place, call the Sheriff’s Office at 713-221-2000. The officers will be able to check out the situation and make sure the person has a legitimate purpose for being there. This will help cut down on burglaries and other incidents in the area. Be sure to lock your cars when in the driveways and pay attention when leaving garage doors open for long periods. The officers have also suggested the need to back pickup trucks up to the garage so tailgates aren’t stolen which has been a recurring issue this year.

In order to receive updates you may register at the Copperfield website at: http://www.copperfield.org/sl_register.php to stay informed and receive crime watch updates.

As you are all aware of the current fire danger levels, please be extra vigilant in monitoring outdoor grilling with the nice fall weather hopefully coming soon.

Please continue to call in any and all suspicious activity you observe at any time, to the Sheriff’s Office non-emergency number at 713-2216000 (Option 1 for dispatch). For life threatening emergencies call 911.

REMINDER: It is imperative that we try to get involved. Keep your ears and eyes open and report any suspicious activity by calling the non-emergency police telephone number, 713-221-6000.

BE PREPARED - GET INVOLVED! CRIMES IN PROGRESS CALL 911 CRIMES REPORTED:

PARKING Do not park vehicles at the end of the Cul de Sac or at the Pool and Park area after 9:00 PM. Vehicles will be towed at homeowners’ expense. The pool and park closes at 9:00 PM.

Did you know that you are your worst enemy! 9 out of 10 times, you left your doors unlocked to your home or car. You don’t have enough lighting or no lights on your front or back porch. Your garage doors were left open in full view of all your goods stored in the garage. You did not arrange for your newspaper to be picked up or stopped when you left on vacation, which is a clear indication that you are not at home. All of the above are great invitations for thieves. You may go to the website and obtain a vacation form, if you are going on vacation and fax or drop it off at the Sheriff’s Department or community center. They will monitor your home while you are away. FOR NON EMERGENCY CALL HARRIS COUNTY SHERIFF’S DISPATCHER: 713-221-6000

(CPV) DEED RESTRICTIONS

HOMES Roofing, painting, landscaping, patios, sheds or any major changes must be approved by the Architectural Review Board. If you are not sure of the deed restrictions or what colors are allowable under the current deed restrictions please contact SCS Management at 281-463-1777. Many homes are in desperate need of painting or mildew cleaning! You may obtain your form for Architectural Board approval by visiting the Copperfield website at www.copperfield.org. Do not park vehicles at the end of the Cul de Sac or at the Pool and Park area after 9:00 PM. Vehicles will be towed at homeowners’ expense. The pool and park closes at 9:00 PM.

IMPORTANT: DO NOT BLOCK THE SIDEWALKS WITH TRAILERS OR VEHICLES, WHICH WILL DETER THE PASSAGEWAY FOR WHEELCHAIR ACCESSIBILITY! DO NOT BLOCK THE STREET AT THE END OF THE CUL DE SAC WITH ANY VEHICLE OR THE SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT WILL ISSUE A TICKET IF THEY ARE CALLED TO THE SIGHT AND HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED.

(EC) TRUCKS PROHIBITED

There are still incidences of large commercial trucks parking along the street near the entrance to the subdivision and adjacent to the park. The entrance to a residential neighborhood is no place for such vehicles, which are a safety problem, as well as unsightly and may interfere with traffic. Signs are posted that indicate that the parking of these vehicles is prohibited. When a truck parks in the restricted area, residents are encouraged to call the Harris County Sheriff’s Office non-emergency number (713-221-6000) to make a report.

(EC) PROBLEMS WITH OBSTRUCTED LINE OF SIGHT

Residents are reminded that Easton Commons Deed Restrictions do place limits on the size and placement of fences, planters, hedges and other items, which may restrict vision, particularly on corner lots. Basically, the deed restrictions prohibit placing any object on a corner which is over two feet high and which may interfere with line of sight. There are still many cars that cut through our subdivision to avoid traffic and lights on Highway 6 and West Road. Many of these do not comply with the 20 mile-an-hour speed limit which further aggravates an already dangerous situation arising from restricted line of sight. Residents who persist in violating this item of the deed restrictions are subject to warning/reminder letters and may be subject to further action if the situation is not corrected.

(EC) CRIME WATCH

We still need Block Captains. If you are interested, please contact Ken Johnson at admin@eccrimewatch.com. If you would like to receive Crime Watch information, contact Ken at the email address shown above and he will provide information as it becomes available.

(EC) HOME IMPROVEMENTS

To make changes to the exterior appearance of your home (i.e. painting, new windows, new roof, new fence, etc.) an ARC Application must be filled out and sent to SCS Management. All exterior changes must be approved via an ARC Application. You can find a copy of this form at www.copperfield.org under Easton Commons.

(EC) EASTON COMMONS NATURE PARK

The park has been closed since October 31, 2011 due to major construction of lighting and other assorted projects. Hopefully, it will be open as you read this.

The rules for the park are not completed but several are already in effect. These are a follows: 1) No smoking anywhere in the park or parking lot. 2) All dogs must be on a leash at all times - No exceptions. This is also a Harris County Law. 3) No swimming as there are submerged hazards in pond, in the form of trees laid down to give the fish (catfish, blue gills and possibly some Bass) a more natural habitat to thrive in. The M.U.D. 179 Board is also working with Harris County Pct. 4 to slow traffic along the front side of the park and to also deter drivers from cutting thru Easton Commons Village. USING SERVICE LEARNING TO PRACTICE MATH SKILLS

PRESCHOOLERS COLLECT 366 FOOD ITEMS FOR NEEDY CYPRESS FAMILIES FOR THANKSGIVING

For the month of November, teachers at Montessori Preschool at Copperfield introduced service as a way to inspire math-readiness in preschool children. By collecting cans and non-perishable food items for needy Cypress families, children (ages 18 months to 6 years) practiced counting skills, place value, addition and subtraction at an advanced level at an early age in the name of service. Children established a goal of collecting 65 food items in a month and surpassed their goal by 301 in two weeks. Teachers aided the counting process, introducing place value to understand the value of three-digit numbers and tracking total donations on a large chart. Kindergartners practiced three-digit addition and subtraction problems to account for the total number of food items. All food items will be donated to Cypress Assistance Ministries for Thanksgiving. In addition, students were taught the value of service and sharing, especially in tough economic times when it is difficult to give freely.

PACK 445 OUT OF FIEST ELEMENTARY

Hello Everyone! Welcome to this month’s exciting episode of “The Chronicles of Pack 445!” Wow! We can’t believe it’s a New Year! Where has the time gone? Our Scouts are very excited to get started on all our upcoming activities! We finished off the year with a great turnout for the “Parade of Lights.” Even though the weather was cold and rainy, we had many brave Scouts show up to ride on our very nicely decorated floats. The boys do a great job of decorating our floats every year and look forward to riding in them in the parade. We also had our Pushmobile races in December and had a great time watching the boys race up and down the track. The race is something the boys look forward to every year as well! January brings our next big event, which is Pinewood Derby! The boys will have the opportunity to attend two workshops to complete their cars for the big race at the end of the month. We’ll keep you posted on the winners! December and January bring ceremonies where our Webelo 2’s will crossover into Boy Scouts. We will miss them dearly, but know they have a lot of great things ahead of them! Remember, it’s never too late to join Cub Scouts! If you would like to become a part of our family and have a boy in 1st-5th grade, please visit our website at www.pack445.org. We’ll be waiting to hear from you!

STANDUP FOR KIDS

How would you feel if you saved a kid’s life? StandUp For Kids is an all volunteer organization dedicated to saving the lives of at-risk and homeless kids through volunteer outreach efforts. Our volunteers search the streets in order to find, stabilize and otherwise help homeless and street kids improve their lives. Every day throughout the US thirteen kids die on the streets from abuse, disease and suicide. According to recent statistics Houston has up to 2,500 kids living on the streets at any given time. Texas has the highest rate of homeless youth in the U.S. StandUp For Kids needs supplies for our Houston program, which provides food, clothing, counseling and a safe environment for the homeless youth of Houston. If you or your organization would like to hold a food or clothing drive for StandUp For Kids please contact me at HeatherE@standupforkids.org to learn more about StandUp For Kids or how you can help visit our website at www.standupforkids.org. The single greatest need, for homeless and street kids is our continuous caring and real support. We must convince them that we care, we want them back and we want to help them get off the streets.

MOTHERS OF YOUNG CHILDREN (MYC)

The moment a newborn baby wraps their tiny hand around a parent’s finger is a pivotal moment in the life of any parent. The baby not only tugs on the finger, but on the parent’s heart as well. It is in that awesome moment that the parent begins to understand the unconditional and abounding love that God has for each of us. But soon after the little miracle arrives so do all the questions and sometimes, without any clear answers. The Mothers of Young Children (MYC) group was organized by St. Cuthbert Episcopal Church to minister to families with young children throughout the Northwest Houston community. Both stay at home and working parents are invited to participate in the group. The group supports and prays for one another, shares information and ideas on child rearing and builds lasting friendships. Most importantly, MYC’s focus is on God and God’s presence in families. The MYC ministry includes: • Friday morning Bible study at 9:30 AM (childcare provided!) • Monthly Kids Night In • Mom’s Night Out • Playgroups throughout the year • Service ministries • Online discussion forum

56

The MYC group is an exciting ministry filled with open hearts and lots of energy (and that isn’t including the kids) with a desire to grow in Christ.
