MESSAGE FROM YOUR HOA BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Greetings fellow neighbors: Summer is almost here and what a glorious spring it has been. Very few plants died off during the winter and our trees and plants are already blooming… Our neighborhood is looking great. There have been a few complaints from homeowners about cars blocking the sidewalk. If you have to park in your driveway, please try to park close to your garage. With the recent nice weather, families are walking on the sidewalks and it’s really not a good idea to have to step into the street to avoid parked cars. Just a couple of reminders... If you have not already paid your HOA assessment fee, please contact Krystal or Mike (281-213-3184) to set up a payment plan. By doing this you will save on legal and/or late fees. There are positions opening up on the HOA Board this month. If you would like to volunteer a few hours of your time each month and have a desire to make a difference in our community, contact Mike for more information. A special thank-you to the volunteers who helped with the East Egg Hunt festivities. Pictures will appear in the next issue of the Cypress Mill Messenger. The next neighborhood event will be the July 4th Bonanza… volunteer now!! Your HOA Board of Directors
DEED RESTRICTIONS VIOLATIONS
by Mike Crahan We have noticed a lot of front yard trees are in need of trimming. Please trim your lower tree branches on all your yard trees. If you need any help trimming your tree, Mike Crahan has a new chain saw and would love to test it on your trees. Trashcans need to be out of view from the street. That means you cannot have your trashcan on the driveway or side of your home. You will get a letter and if you don’t put up your trashcan, we will send you to the attorney just for this trashcan violation and you will receive the attorney charge on your account. So… please move your trashcan out of view of the street.

YARD TIPS
By Mike Crahan Reseed & Water Thoroughly As part of the spring startup process, dead or damaged grass patches should be reseeded in early April. The most important thing to do is to provide newly developing seeds with enough water for proper growth and development. Developing seeds, especially early in the season, need plenty of water. See “April Showers Bring May Flowers.” Choose the Right Grass Type for Your Lawn & Climate There are over 9,000 species of grasses, so choosing the right one for your lawn may not be quite as simple as you think. Landscape specialists will take into consideration your lawn’s specific needs and recommend the best possible choice for you.

Do Not Mow Too Short Grass will grow best at approximately two inches and higher, so keep it a minimum of this height during the first few cuts in spring. Apply Herbicides to Control Crabgrass Mid-March/April is the best time to control crabgrass, because it will not be up and growing yet. Once the crabgrass has significantly grown and developed, herbicides will have less of an effect on them. At that point, good ole’ fashion weed plucking may be the best option.

GARDENING TIPS FOR APRIL
281-855-9212
Mulch - If possible, buy Bagged Mulch. Bagging helps eliminate a great many pests that die from various causes while in the bag. When you buy ‘loose’ mulch that is trucked to your home, you are also buying ants, roaches, termites, etc… Spend a little more on bagged material and save lots of future pest problems. Keep your mulch at least 4” - 6” below the top of your homes exposed foundation edge/side. This will aid in minimizing pests in your home and allow for quick and accurate termite inspections.

Shrubs, Flowers and groundcovers - Trim all shrubs/plants at least 12” - 18” back from your home. Do your best to create a plant free zone that is 18” - 24” wide around your home. The exception is your lawn - it can grow up next to the slab as long as you keep it 4” - 6” below the top of the slab. The most conducive to termite infestation are groundcover plantings, growing high against your homes exterior or (especially) ivy that grows on your walls.
VICTORY PAINTING
& WOOD ROT REPLACEMENT PR O MPT - RELIABLE - AFFORDABLE - SINCE 1993
Trees - Spray your trees at least twice annually. The spring spray eliminates overwintering pests and fungi while preparing trees to resist the pest onslaught of summer with residual pesticides. The fall spray also kills pests from the summer, prevents most fungi from occurring over the winter and puts your valuable asset off to a healthy winter’s dormancy.

Lawn - Spring is the perfect time to do a fungicide treatment to stop brown patch in its tracks along with other fungi. If your lawn is thin and weak in some areas, here are some important fundamentals: a) lawn aeration b) fertilization c) weed control. Most important is proper watering: • Water once per week (unless you get a 1/2” rain or more - then do not water.) • Water heavily (1” - 2”) for total lawn coverage. • In severe drought, water every 5th day. • Water from 5 AM to 7 AM in the morning - NOT AT NIGHT. • A heavy deep weekly watering makes the turf grow deeper, stronger and more drought resistant roots. • Less watering also saves you money!!
REMINDER ABOUT TRASH COLLECTION DAYS
Remember that there is NO trash collection, either regular or recycling, on public holidays: Christmas, Thanksgiving, Memorial Day, Labor Day, New Year’s Day, Independence Day, etc. Please do not leave trash at the curb expecting collection on those days. If you need clarification, contact Best Trash Services: http://best-trash.com. Trash will be picked up on the next regularly scheduled day: recycling and household trash on Mondays, household trash on Thursdays.

YMPA/YLPA STEP UP
CFISD Teacher, sang the National Anthem. State Representative Allen Fletcher gave the invocation and Senior Ryan Lancaster, from Cy-Fair High School, played TAPS. Kevin “Dauber” Lacz, former Navy SEAL sniper and combat medic was our guest speaker for the evening. Lacz spoke from the heart about his experiences as a Navy SEAL and the impact his service in the military had on his life. As a Certified Physician Assistant, Lacz uses his past experiences to facilitate his work in medicine and charity and actively seeks to support service members and veterans in his community. Lacz inspired us all with his motivational story, winning attitude and continued commitment to service. Joe Myers Ford Lincoln generously underwrote this year’s Salute to Our Heroes Gala and we are grateful that they have agreed to underwrite this event in 2017. Cypress Fairbanks Medical Center Hospital and North Cypress Medical Center were Major General Sponsors this year. Salute to Our Heroes has raised more than half a million dollars over the past eight years, funding several endowed scholarships for students graduating from the Cypress Fairbanks ISD. CFEF was established in 1970 as a non-profit to raise money to fund a scholarship for high school graduates in the area. Over the past 46 years, the Foundation has grown tremendously through the efforts of the Board of Trustees and the generosity of the Cy-Fair Community. The Foundation has awarded more than $6 million in scholarships to 1,300 graduating seniors. CFEF is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, all contributions are tax deductible, as allowed by the law. You can join Patricia’s presentation at 12 Noon. Vendor registration is now open. We only take 2 business types per category and NO two businesses can be exactly the same.
