Deerfield Village Pet Hot Line Marie Nugent 281-859-1104
Kittens and puppies are being dumped in Subdivisions and shopping strips. They will not find good homes. Most will be taken by the pound or shelter and those are overflowing with pets. They cannot help but have to euthanize some. You, as a responsible pet owner can be of great help by having your cat or dog spayed or neutered and not worry about finding homes for the offspring. You will have a healthier and happy pet. Another and very important thing you can do is have a collar with some form of ID and your phone number on it. Pet stores have special ID’s for your pets. Many pet owners are now “chipping” the pets. If found and taken to a vet they can scan chip and find the owner. If your pet has a rabies tag, the vet has your name and #. The first thing I ask a caller is “does the pet have ID on it.” If it does, I will help contact the # on the ID and get the pet to it’s owner ASAP. Or, the owner can pick up their lost pet. Having an ID on a pet makes life easier for all.

“BALANCING ACT”
On March 24th 6 PM – 9 PM, Cypress Lakes High School and Louisiana National Guardsmen will partner together for an event to promote the importance of balancing life’s everyday challenges while also giving back to the community. Money will be raised providing donations to families of first responders, who themselves give back to our community and country on a regular basis. “Balancing Act,” is an opportunity for the students of Cypress Lakes High School, their clubs and organizations, members of the military/ first responders and other members in the community to show the importance of having balance in life. A representative of each group, club or organization will demonstrate their commitment to “balancing life” by doing handstand/wheel barrel walks down the main hallway of Cypress Lakes High School, which is approximately ¼ of a mile.
8
College representatives, health care providers, first responders and business owners will be on hand for support and to offer different opportunities for students and the community to learn ways to balance academics, health, well being, physical fitness and everyday life situations. There is no admission for the event, but donations are welcome. There will be awards, door prizes, giveaways, food, music and other activities/entertainment! Everyone is welcome. For more information, visit www.balancingact.webs.com.

BERYL RAMSEY AND WAYNE VOSS TO CHAIR GO RED FOR WOMEN LUNCHEON SET FOR FEBRUARY 13, 2012
CEO of Methodist Willowbrook Hospital, Beryl Ramsey, returns to Chair the Go Red For Women Luncheon in partnership with CEO of Methodist West Houston Hospital, Wayne Voss. Together, Ramsey and Voss will serve as Co-Chairs and lead efforts to raise awareness that heart disease remains the number one killer of women, but is often preventable with healthy lifestyle choices. This year’s luncheon will be held on Monday, Feb. 13th at the Berry Center in Cy-Fair and is expected to draw more than 400 business and community leaders. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn tips on heart disease and stroke prevention from local experts, listen to a heart-warming story of survival from an area resident, participate in interactive breakout displays and shop the “purse-onalities” silent auction. The silent auction is a unique piece of the luncheon that features items representative of the diverse personalities of the community. Purses can be anything from actual handbags to golf bags to briefcases. This year’s auction will include something for everyone! Melissa Wilson of Fox 26 Morning News will emcee the event and Dr. Valentina Ugolini of Willowbrook Cardiovascular Associates will be the featured medical speaker.

Ramsey and Voss and their team of volunteers have a goal of raising a record-breaking $200,000 to support educational programs that the American Heart Association provides and the life-saving research it funds to reduce the effects of heart disease in women. Today, only 1 in 5 women believe that heart disease is their greatest health threat. More women die of cardiovascular disease than the next three causes of death combined, including all forms of cancer. Go Red for Women celebrates the energy, passion and power that women can use to band together to wipe out heart disease and stroke. To secure a sponsorship, purchase tables and/or tickets, or for further information, contact Priscilla Luna at 713-610-5071 or email priscilla.luna@heart.org. About the American Heart Association The American Heart Association is the nation’s oldest and largest voluntary health organization dedicated to fighting heart disease and stroke. Our mission is to build healthier lives by preventing, treating and defeating these diseases - America’s No. 1 and No. 3 killers. We fund cutting-edge research, conduct lifesaving public and professional educational programs, and advocate to protect public health. “I’m In PAIN” Can Chiropractic Help ME ? We are often asked, “What’s the best way of finding out whether or not a doctor of chiropractic can help my problem?” We believe the answer can be found in a complete chiropractic consultation and examination, including x-rays. And to help find out for sure, we will do a complete consultation and examination, including x-rays, if necessary, (procedures that normally cost $187.00 or more) for $25.00. We will make this special program available through FEBRUARY. The only exception to the offer involves personal injury cases (workers’ compensation and auto accidents) in which there is no charge directly to the patient.

Stark Naked Theatre, Mildred’s Umbrella Theater Company and The Classical Theatre Company Stark Naked Theatre, Mildred’s Umbrella Theater Company and The Classical Theatre Company announce that they moved into the performance space, which was recently Divergence Music & Arts at Spring Street Studios on January 15, 2012. The space, which the three groups are planning to re-name Studio 101 at Spring Street Studios when they take up occupancy, has been under the direction of Misha Penton as Divergence Music & Arts at Spring St Studios, since early 2011. While they will no longer be in residence at the Spring Street Studios space, Misha and Divergence Vocal Theater will continue to produce new work as a performing arts group. Misha is “.... thrilled that Stark Naked, Mildred’s and CTC will take over the beautiful performance studio at Spring St. and infuse Houston’s growing theater arts scene with their collective vision.” The goal of Studio 101 at Spring Street Studios will be primarily to provide audience members with a one-stop shop for the highest quality theater Houston has to offer, while allowing the three member organizations to remain true to their distinct artistic visions. While Mildred’s Umbrella, CTC and Stark Naked will be sharing an artistic home and all of the administrative duties space ownership entails, the three organizations will remain separate entities. Studio 101 at Spring Street Studios’ inaugural production will be Stark Naked Theatre Company’s Dinner with Friends February 23 - March 11, 2012, while Mildred’s Umbrella’s Dead Man’s Cell Phone, running March 8-24, 2012 will be performed as originally planned at Barnevelder Movement Arts Complex. After this production, Mildred’s Umbrella will begin performing at Spring Street as well, and Classical Theatre Company will join the collective by Summer 2012.

On Sunday, February 19th, the Bishop of the Texas Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church, Bishop Janice Huie, will be in northwest Houston to consecrate the new West Road Campus of Cornerstone United Methodist Church. The West Road Campus of Cornerstone United Methodist Church located at 18081 West Road (across from the CFISD Berry Center) currently consists of a worship center and education wing. The 12.84 acre plot of land was purchased by Cornerstone in 2004. The new worship center was opened in October, 2010 and the education wing was opened in August, 2011. Cornerstone’s main campus is located at 15919 Ridge Park Dr. (across from Lowery Elementary School). The Ridge Park Campus is currently up for sale and following the sale of the property, Cornerstone hopes to continue adding to the West Road Campus with the addition of a Phase 3 building project. The “Consecration Ceremony” will be part of the Sunday morning worship service at 10:45 AM. Although Cornerstone normally has three worship services each Sunday, in honor of this special event, there will only be one service that day. Following the worship service and consecration ceremony, Cornerstone will host a “Meet and Greet the Bishop” reception in the education wing.
