POOL TAG REGISTRATION & FREE TAG PICK-UP

Be sure to get your pool tags this year, in person, at the pool house at the big park on Westgate Park Dr. and Kenmark. Pool tags are required to swim in our community pool and picking them up at the pool house will save you the fee per tag and the time it takes to get them from PCMI. Two tags will be given out per family with a resident and two guests allowed per tag; that’s three people total per tag. This should eliminate some of the problem of turning people away who want to swim.

We will pass out tags on the following dates and times at the pool, assuming we have volunteers step forward to help: Saturday, April 9th: 10 AM-12 PM and 3-5 PM Thursday, April 14th: 5-7 PM We may have a couple of later dates organized as well, so keep an eye on our Facebook group and the website. It will be on the registration form mailed out to you as well. * Your assessments must be paid in full in order to receive your pool tags and pool tags will be distributed only to ADULTS 18 YEARS OF AGE OR OLDER. Property ID must be presented to pick up your pool tags. If you are unable to attend the pool tag registrations, tags will be distributed BY MAIL ONLY with a fee.

The pool will be closed Mondays for maintenance. The exception will be Monday, May 30th and Monday, September 5th, instead the pool will be closed on the following Tuesdays.

The pool will be closed for the season on September 26th.

It is fire ant season again. WE WOULD LIKE ALL RESIDENTS TO PARTICIPATE in FIRE ANT WEEK by treating your yard for fire ants during the week of April 17th-April 23rd. Signs will be posted at the entry to our subdivision as a reminder.

According to research at Texas A&M, if we all participate, we will be fire ant free. If you don’t participate, your neighbors will pass their fire ants on to you. This is only twice a year project - once in Spring and once in Fall.

The optimal method for treatment is when the temperature is between 65 and 90 degrees and the following two step method is used: Step 1. Once or twice per year, usually in spring and fall, broadcast a bait-formulated insecticide or use an outdoor bait station product as directed on the label. Most conventional baits are applied at a rate of 1 to 1 1⁄2 pounds of product per acre, although some products are applied at higher rates.

Step 2. Preferably, wait several days or more after broadcasting the bait and then treat nuisance ant colonies (such as those in sensitive or high-traffic areas) using an individual mound treatment method. Otherwise, be patient and wait for the bait treatment to work.

CHIROPRACTIC HEALTH and WELLNESS CENTER NEW FINE POLICY FOR DEED RESTRICTION VIOLATIONS

Beginning in 2016, Westgate will be instituting a new fining policy for deed restriction violations. Our bylaws give approval to do so. After researching other neighborhoods’ fining policies and working with our attorney to ensure we comply with state law, the Board voted to approve this step.

Why did the Board feel this step was necessary? Our job is to do what we can to keep up property values in our community; some violations, when notification letters are ignored, pull down the overall appeal of our neighborhood. While some violations must be sent to the attorney, others can be addressed with fines and hopefully avoid attorney expenses.

Fines also address the cost of repeated notifications and further necessary actions; in other words, if someone ignores notification letters, they pay for causing further actions with the fines.

The details will be available once the Fine Policy document is filed with Harris County, but the policy is essentially this: • One notice of violation is mailed to homeowner.

• After 30 days, certified Notice of Non Compliance letter is sent to homeowner. $50 fine assessed. The homeowner can request to be heard by the Board.

• After 30 more days, another notice of violation is sent and $100 fine assessed. The Board can then send the matter to the attorney.

• In certain circumstances, the Board can forgo the initial notice; for instance, if the violation is considered “uncurable” by the state (i.e. garage sale, fireworks or something that is a safety issue) or the same violation notice was sent within a previous period.

At any time, anyone can request clarification on a violation by calling our management company, PCMI. More specifics will be available on this policy soon. Keep up to date through our website, www.westgatetx.net and on our Facebook group, Westgate Subdivision.

DO YOU KNOW YOUR DEED RESTRICTIONS?

In an effort to educate our residents, we are highlighting some deed restriction or other item that needs improvement in Westgate: In the Declaration of Covenants,…, Article VII, section P., pg. 25: It’s the responsibility of each resident “to prevent the development of any unclean, unhealthy, unsightly or unkempt condition …” Also, Article IX, section A, pg. 34: “Each Owner shall maintain and keep in good repair his or her Dwelling and all structures…”

PROCEDURE WHEN FILING A REPORT WITH THE SHERIFF’S DEPT.

If you ever have to file a report with the Sheriff’s Department, whether after calling 911 or the nonemergency number (713221-6000), be sure to let the deputy know that Westgate has a contract with the Sheriff’s Dept. through our MUD district (Harris County MUD #70). That way, the incident will be reported to our contract deputies, giving them information on what to look for in our community. Also, be sure to report the issue to our Crime Watch committee at crimewatch@westgatetx.net. They discuss the problems with our deputies as well.

Have you ever needed to call someone for repairs or to have work done, but you didn’t want to just pick someone out of the yellow pages? Well, we’ve begun a document that is our neighborhood’s personal “Angie’s List:” “Recommended Tradespeople And Businesses.” All people and businesses listed on it are recommended by people in Westgate who have had personal experiences with them. SALUTE TO OUR HEROES GALA

On February 13, 2016, the Cy-Fair Educational Foundation (CFEF) held its 8th Annual Salute to Our Heroes Gala at the Omni Hotel Houston Westside raising over $100,000 to benefit graduating seniors from the Cypress Fairbanks ISD. Cypress Woods High School AFJROTC was chosen to Present the Colors and the Missing Man Table and Honors Ceremony. Tina Clinkenbeard, CFISD Teacher, sang the National Anthem. State Representative Allen Fletcher gave the invocation and Senior Ryan Lancaster, from Cy-Fair High School, played TAPS. Kevin “Dauber” Lacz, former Navy SEAL sniper and combat medic was our guest speaker for the evening. Lacz spoke from the heart about his experiences as a Navy SEAL and the impact his service in the military had on his life. As a Certified Physician Assistant,

Thanks to everyone who made the 2nd Annual Lobo Band Chili CookOff a huge success! The fund raising event was held on February 27th in the LCHS Commons. Our guests had a great time sampling several varieties of delicious chili prepared by cook-off teams made up of color guard and band sections. They were also treated to a raffle and a huge assortment of baked goods courtesy of our generous band and color guard families. The chili tasters were asked to cast a vote for their favorite chili. At the end of the day, 1st place went to the Trombones, 2nd place went to the French Horns, 3rd place went to the Trumpets and the Color Guard were voted Taster’s Choice. Congratulations to all of the participating teams and we offer a special thanks to the cook-off sponsors for donating your time and materials. We’ll see y’all next year!

GIRL SCOUTS OF SAN JACINTO COUNCIL COPPER CREEK MEADOWS COMMUNITY

Our Girl Scout Cookie sale for 2016 concluded on March 20th. Hope you stocked up, as there will be a long wait before cookie time rolls around again! Many thanks to all our cookie volunteers and to all the troops who participated. We appreciate the support of our friends and neighbors. ! Money earned from the annual Cookie sale funds individual troop activities and supports Council programs and camps. Some of our troops really made their cookie booths special.

Members of troop 113035 had a cookie booth on Valentine’s Day and report that they sold 200 boxes in 2 hours. These Girl Scouts really enjoy dressing up. They represented Vietnam at our World Thinking Day event and took part in our cafeteria-size Friendship Circle.

The World Thinking Day event drew almost 200 girls (and their leaders). Each troop represented a different country and presented national costumes, music, food and crafts at their booths. They also had some great swaps! Stick on mustaches, crepes and chocolate lollipops that were shaped like the Eiffel tower were featured at the “France” booth. Maracas made from plastic spoons and Easter eggs accompanied Fiesta costumes at the Mexico booth the special collars and headdresses seen at the Egypt booth looked as if they had come from the King Tut exhibit. Beautiful costumes, bright colors and lots of smiling faces made traveling “around the world” as easy as moving around the cafeteria! Our event started off with a flag ceremony and recitation of the Girl Scout Promise and finished up with a Friendship Circle and singing “Make New Friends.” We also collected donations for the Juliette Low World Friendship Fund.

Our STRIDERS event brought an afternoon of track and field events, with families coming out to cheer on their daughters. Girls jumped rope, ran in individual and relay races, threw softballs and jumped in standing and running events. We also had a few snacks to keep

up our strength for all those activities. Our spring Leader/Daughter event in Wimberley featured “Art in Bloom” crafts and activities, as well as the Talent Show, Dutch oven Cook-off and all our usual fun activities. Horseback riding and rock climbing, kayaking, shopping and eating the results of the Dutch Oven Cook-Off are all part of this exciting weekend.

Cadette Troop 16435 reports that they attended the “Be an Upstander” event at the Holocaust Museum. They earned the ‘Science of Happiness” badge and the Interact award towards the “Amaze Journey.”

April will be a busy time for our Cadette, Senior and Ambassador Girl Scouts, with activities such as Cadette Weekend, Scouts at SAM and Girl Scout Law Day. Some of these older Girl Scouts will also be participating with adults as delegates to the annual Council Meeting.

Daisy Troop 113049 reports that they made “blessing bags” to be handed out to those in need.

We are getting close to the end of the school Scouting year, with a Bridging Ceremony planned for May, as troops move on to the next Girl Scout level. Summer brings resident, day and twilight camps and the chance to learn new skills, have fun and make new friends.

Some of our troops are also looking forward to the Girl Scout Night Sleepover at the Sugarland Skeeters stadium; they will be taking part in a parade around the stadium, enjoying the game and pitching their tents on the field afterwards!

Girl Scouting is open to all girls ages 5 (must be in kindergarten) through 18 who are willing to accept the Girl Scout Promise and Law. Girls may join at any level and no previous Scouting experience is required. Copper Creek Meadows serves girls in the residence areas for the elementary schools listed below, as well as the corresponding

ERNEST (E.J.) ESCOBEDO JR., HAS EARNED EAGLE SCOUT

On February 1, 2016, Ernest (E.J.) Escobedo Jr., a member of Boy Scout Troop 202, has earned the highest rank of Eagle Scout. E.J. started in the Cub Scout program in the 3rd grade. In December of 2010 he earned his Arrow of Light and transitioned into Boy Scout Troop 202.

As a member of Troop 202, E.J. has held a variety of troop positions including Assistant Patrol Leader, Senior Patrol Leader and many years of Troop Guide. E.J. has attended every troop campout, except for one, since joining Troop 202. Each summer he has been able to attend high adventure camps including twice to Philmont, Seabase in Florida and a trip to Colorado. He has spent one week of his winter break for the last 4 years volunteering at winter camp. He is also an O.A. member.

For his Eagle Project, E.J. refurbished and enhanced a memorial area and the local VFW Post 8905 on Hwy 290 in Cypress, Texas.

E.J. is currently a student at Langham Creek High School in the 11th grade. He is also a member of the Cy-Fair Volunteer Fire Department and plans to attend college in the future.

Young men between the ages of 11-18 are encouraged to visit Boy Scout Troop 61 at 7:00 PM Wednesday nights at Peace Community Church, 5151 Addicks Satsuma Road, Houston, Texas, 77084. Boy Scout Troop 10 meets every Tuesday night during the school year at the West Houston Church of Christ on West Road and Queenston. Our meetings begin at 7 PM. We spend our time working on merit badges, planning for our monthly camp outs and working on rank advancements.

The boys will be extra busy this month as they will be participating in our District Camporee where they compete with other Troops in the district in activities like tent races and archery! The Titmouse Club is a nature program for children ages 2 ½ to 5 sponsored by the Houston Audubon Docent Guild. The Children’s Choirs of Cornerstone United Methodist Church will be presenting their musical “Blast Off!” on Sunday, April 24th at the 10:45 AM service. Did you know that on the second Friday of each month Bear Creek United Methodist Church provides a caring, Christian atmosphere for your loved one? The program, scheduled from 10 AM to 1:30 PM. EPIPHANY BINGO

Epiphany Bingo has been conducting bingo games on the west side since February 14, 1986. Epiphany conducts their bingo games every Friday night except holidays. T HERE IS NO SMOKING ALLOWED DURING ALL BINGO GAMES. They have a jackpot game of $750. Maximum prize giveaways of $2,500, allowed by law, are given away every Bingo Night! They have security, lighted parking, big screen color monitor, computerized bingo equipment, snack bar and large cash prizes. Profits are used for charitable outreach programs, building expansion, and payment towards debt.
