Westgate HOA Election Results and Summary of Annual Homeowners Meeting
Hello Westgate Residents. As a result of our first resident HOA election, Kimberly McGaughy will be serving as the first resident voice and vote on Westgate’s HOA Board of Directors. Summary of the meeting: It was a short meeting - only about an hour. They approved last year’s minutes, discussed the budget and expenses, gave a community update about when KB Home expects to leave (early part of 2013), took nominations from the floor for the HOA election, and introduced the people running. Veronica Hill nominated herself and spoke mostly about doing something about the parts of the neighborhood that don’t look well - deed restriction enforcements. I talked about how I’ve been involved with the neighborhood, my past experience working with an HOA to make a neighborhood better (previous neighborhood) and that I want to focus on cutting costs, building a money reserve, applying deed restrictions more consistently and keeping the community informed. Joanne Ramos, new to Westgate, talked about how she loves her new neighborhood and looks forward to being involved as this is her first permanent home: she spent 14 years in the army, even spent time in Iraq, so she’s learned core values like discipline and integrity. She also feels it’s important to hear from residents about concerns. After the election, we heard a lot of questions from residents, mostly concerned with financial issues and a few about deed restrictions. We still have a huge problem with delinquencies. $179,000 was the amount of accounts receivable that we are owed in collections for 2011 and previous years. As it is now, about $150,000 of that, according to Lynette/VanMor, we would be able to have in our reserves if people paid their dues. And we’re spending money to collect those dues. We had several other questions, so if you didn’t get yours answered, email me your question (kbmcgaughy@gmail.com) and I’ll talk to VanMor to get it answered. That’s just a quick summary. I feel we should have another neighborhood meeting to discuss what items residents want focused on. I’d like to put together a committee of people who could help look for ways to cut costs and solve other issues. Please email me if you are interested: kbmcgaughy@ gmail.com. There are a lot of items we should focus on and I’d like to be thorough.
