EXTERIOR MODIFICATIONS

Are you planning to make repairs and upgrades to the exterior of your home including the landscaping? Please don’t forget to submit your ACC application before making any changes to the exterior of your home or property. The ACC Committee processes the applications as quickly as possible. Supplying the specifications of your improvement, a lot survey indicating the location of the modification, and a sample or detailed list of materials to be used will also help speed up this process. If you need an application, please contact Erica Morgan at emorgan@pmghouston.com or 713-329-7186.

PROTECT ONE OF YOUR MOST VALUABLE INVESTMENTS BY DEVELOPING A CONSISTENT MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE By doing some simple preventative maintenance, you can extend the life of your home and minimize costly repairs. Painting: It is important to put a good coat of paint on your home which may mean painting every three to five years on an average, depending on the quality of the paint. Painting obviously improves the appearance of your home and protects your wood or hardiplank from the elements reducing rot. Don’t forget your ACC application along with paint color samples, which must be processed and approved first!

Power washing: Take a walk around your property. If you see green or black mildew on your home and driveway, you can power wash the mildew off your gutters, home exterior, driveway and sidewalk. This small step of maintenance can keep your property looking well maintained.

floors & windows, etc. • Custom Draperies • Shutters • Blinds • Ceramic Tile • Carpet • Wood

Gutters: Gutters need to be cleaned out on a regular basis. This time of year they fill up with pine needles and leaves. If the gutters are full of leaves and pine needles, they will not drain properly and will need to be cleaned. The extra weight will cause the gutter nails to become loose and the gutter will sag or fall from your home. Gutters are important as they protect the fascia boards.

Landscaping: Trees, shrubs and seasonal flowers add a great deal to the value of your home and the community. Remember that over time trees and shrubs can become overgrown and unsightly. Please keep your landscaping well trimmed and yard edged so that it enhances your home and does not interfere with the street.

PET HOTLINE NEWS

Kittens and puppies are being dumped in Subdivisions and shopping strips. They will not find good homes. Most will be taken by the pound or shelter and those are overflowing with pets. They cannot help but have to euthanize some. You, as a responsible pet owner can be of great help by having your cat or dog spayed or neutered and not worry about finding homes for the offspring. You will have a healthier and happy pet.

Classes today Careers tomorrow LSC-CyFair offers affordable and flexible options including day, night, weekends, on campus or online.

Another and very important thing you can do is have a collar with some form of ID and your phone number on it. Pet stores have special ID’s for your pets. Many pet owners are now “chipping” the pets. If found and taken to a vet they can scan chip and find the owner. If your pet has a rabies tag, the vet has your name and #. The first thing I ask a caller is “does the pet have ID on it.” If it does, I will help contact the # on the ID and get the pet to it’s owner ASAP. Or, the owner can pick up their lost pet. Having an ID on a pet makes life easier for all. Marie Nugent - 281-859-1104

GARDENING TIPS FOR APRIL

LEAKY ROOF ? NO PROBLEM!

Mulch - If possible, buy Bagged Mulch. Bagging helps eliminate a great many pests that die from various causes while in the bag. When you buy ‘loose’ mulch that is trucked to your home, you are also buying ants, roaches, termites, etc… Spend a little more on bagged material and save lots of future pest problems. Keep your mulch at least 4” - 6” below the top of your homes exposed foundation edge/side. This will aid in minimizing pests in your home and allow for quick and accurate termite inspections. Shrubs, Flowers and groundcovers - Trim all shrubs/plants at least 12” - 18” back from your home. Do your best to create a plant free zone that is 18” - 24” wide around your home. The exception is your lawn - it can grow up next to the slab as long as you keep it 4” - 6” below the top of the slab. The most conducive to termite infestation are groundcover plantings, growing high against your homes exterior or (especially) ivy that grows on your walls. Trees - Spray your trees at least twice annually. The spring spray eliminates overwintering pests and fungi while preparing trees to resist the pest onslaught of summer with residual pesticides. The fall spray also kills pests from the summer, prevents most fungi from occurring over the winter and puts your valuable asset off to a healthy winter’s dormancy.

Lawn - Spring is the perfect time to do a fungicide treatment to stop brown patch in its tracks along with other fungi. If your lawn is thin and weak in some areas, here are some important fundamentals: a) lawn aeration b) fertilization c) weed control. Most important is proper watering: • Water once per week (unless you get a 1/2” rain or more - then do not water.) • Water heavily (1” - 2”) for total lawn coverage. • In severe drought, water every 5th day. • Water from 5 AM to 7 AM in the morning - NOT AT NIGHT. • A heavy deep weekly watering makes the turf grow deeper, stronger and more drought resistant roots. • Less watering also saves you money!!

SALUTE TO OUR HEROES GALA On February 13, 2016, the Cy-Fair Educational Foundation (CFEF) held its 8th Annual Salute to Our Heroes Gala at the Omni Hotel Houston Westside raising over $100,000 to benefit graduating seniors from the Cypress Fairbanks ISD. Cypress Woods High School AFJROTC was chosen to Present the Colors and the Missing Man Table and Honors Ceremony. Tina Clinkenbeard, CFISD Teacher, sang the National Anthem. State Representative Allen Fletcher gave the invocation and Senior Ryan Lancaster, from Cy-Fair High School, played TAPS. Kevin “Dauber” Lacz, former Navy SEAL sniper and combat medic was our guest speaker for the evening. Lacz spoke from the heart about his experiences as a Navy SEAL and the impact his service in the military had on his life. As a Certified Physician Assistant, Lacz uses his past experiences to facilitate his work in medicine and charity and actively seeks to support service members and veterans in his community. Lacz inspired us all with his motivational story, winning attitude and continued commitment to service. Joe Myers Ford Lincoln generously underwrote this year’s Salute to Our Heroes Gala and we are grateful that they have agreed to underwrite this event in 2017. Cypress Fairbanks Medical Center Hospital and North Cypress Medical Center were Major General Sponsors this year. Salute to Our Heroes has raised more than half a million dollars over the past eight years, funding several endowed scholarships for students graduating from the Cypress Fairbanks ISD. CFEF was established in 1970 as a non-profit to raise money to fund a scholarship for high school graduates in the area. Over the past 46 years, the Foundation has grown tremendously through the efforts of the Board of Trustees and the generosity of the Cy-Fair Community. The Foundation has awarded more than $6 million in scholarships to 1,300 graduating seniors. CFEF is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, all contributions are tax deductible, as allowed by the law. For more information, please contact marie@thecfef.org or visit our website at www.thecfef.org .

“I’m In PAIN” Can Chiropractic Help ME ?

We are often asked, “What’s the best way of finding out whether or not a doctor of chiropractic can help my problem?” We believe the answer can be found in a complete chiropractic consultation and examination, including x-rays. And to help find out for sure, we will do a complete consultation and examination, including x-rays, if necessary, (procedures that normally cost $187.00 or more) for $25.00. We will make this special program available through April. The only exception to the offer involves personal injury cases (workers’ compensation and auto accidents) in which there is no charge directly to the patient.

Told with props, set and costumes, “Blast Off!” tells the story about kids who dream of being astronauts, traveling through space and learning of God the Creator’s marvelous creation. With help from various stars, planets, a cantankerous robot and the wise and patient Flight Commander, Mr. Houston, they learn that the God who created the stars and the heavens is the same God who loved the world so much that He sent His son to die for them, wants to have a relationship with them and with Him nothing is impossible.
