About the 13 World Heritage Cities in Spain declared by UNESCO

San Cristóbal de La Laguna Spain has the privilege of being positioned among the countries with the highest number of inscriptions on the UNESCO Cultural Heritage List. The Grupo Ciudades Patrimonio de la Humanidad de España (World Heritage Cities of Spain Group) joined forces in 1993 to create a non-profit association, with the aim of working together to preserve the historical and cultural heritage of the cities of: Alcalá de Henares, Ávila, Cáceres, Córdoba, Cuenca, Ibiza’Eivissa, Mérida, Salmanca, San Cristóbal de La Laguna, Santiago de Compostela, Segovia, Tarragona and Toledo. These thirteen reinvented cities combine extraordinary cultural heritage with modern areas containing renovated

infracture specially designed for a historical adventure. For centuries, different civilisations such as the Punics, Celts, Romans, Visigoths, Jews, Arabs and Christians have dominated the peninsula and its archipelagos, pervading these cities with their histroy and architecture. The traces of these cultures around the country can be followed on thematic routes designed by the Grupo Ciudades Patrimonia de la Humanidad de España. The wide range of tourist, sports and social facilities let you combine a visit to the historic centre with several sports and recreational activities, visits to exuberant nature reserves, conferences and conventions, whilst enjoying its most modern architectural landmarks or sampling the varied gastronomy.
