Private offices.
Just as market vendors open their stalls, shops and tents for business in the morning and then “close up shop in the evening, The Exchange highlights the day-to-night, work-to-play transition by providing a flexible space that can be used for work as well a s f o r e v e n t s . WORLD PEACE P AV I L I O N . A pavilion dedicated to world peace aims to ground the idea of peace in physical space. Cascading white panels form a labyrinth, but break in the center for natural light to cast down from the skylight above, creating an ethereal effect to the sun breaking t h r o u g h c l o u d s . A warm, neutral palette is intended to make the user feel comfortable and spend time within each individual space.

Above. A pool of water rises up from the travertine floors and is emphasized by a skylight directly above, peeking through the layered veils of curtains. The pool serves as a central gathering point in the labyrinth, and offers the opportunity to metaphorically join hands with strangers and participate in the act of making peace. The visitor directly observes their influence upon the environment, with their actions and gestures translating into ripples in the pool that intersect with other ripples caused by other visitors. 12
B e l o w. A willow tree and the circular in-ground seating correspond to the interior water feature and represent a cause and effect relationship. The act of peacemaking results in t r a n q u i l i t y a n d h a r m o n y. T h e w i l l o w t r e e i s c o m m o n l y associated with harmony and growth, and visually compliments the cascading curtains by creating a similar feel with its descending branches.
