Three amazing venues. Three distinct experiences.

Emens Auditorium is located in the heart of the campus on Riverside Avenue. The auditorium seats 3,309 and hosts a variety of performing arts events throughout the season.

Pruis Hall is situated just off of Woodworth Drive next to Bracken Library. This 640-seat venue provides an intimate setting for musical performances and is used to host a variety of special events throughout the school year.

Sursa Hall is located in the Music Instruction Building at the intersection of Riverside and McKinley. The hall seats 600 and features a world-class pipe organ built by the Goulding & Wood Company.

Building for New Experiences… …still the shows will go on! What an exciting time it is here at Emens Auditorium! Changes are taking shape. A major renovation is underway as we strive to create a user friendly place that better serves the needs of our patrons. Yet before the new space can be erected, we must endure a certain degree of tearing down the former framework. Breaking down components of the old configuration precedes the incorporation of a new construct. This entire process has provided much material for reflection. The demolition currently taking place brings to mind the term “deconstruction.” Deconstruction: a theory used in the study of literature or philosophy which says that a piece of writing does not have just one meaning and that the meaning depends on the reader. Let me suggest that it is reasonable to assert the same state about other arts experiences as well. There is “What art offers is space room for individuality in interpretation of performances, along with the clear intent of certain breathing room for the performer or creative originator such as the spirit.” - John Updike a composer, choreographer or playwright. As a presenter of arts performances, I want attendees to be liberated from the notion that there is only one right perception and be encouraged to engage in new arts encounters with latitude for personalized interpretation.

Another chain of thought as I contemplate this capital project is the impression that people don’t create things in a vacuum. We are all in a way “building upon” some foundation. Building blocks are dependent upon the previous layer for stability. History provides context for the future. This leads me to wonder how previous programming consciously or intuitively influences our curatorial process for the upcoming season. That is probably more than enough esoteric stream of thought. More importantly, we want to encourage one and all to be part of this transition and continue to attend attractions in the coming months. The staff at the auditorium will endeavor to make your experience here worthwhile. Let it suffice to say that I hope that you will find in the following pages enlightening, entertaining, and inspiring performances that will form memorable moments for you.

#BuildingNewExperiences Since opening in 1964, the John R. Emens College-Community Auditorium on Ball State’s campus has served as a preeminent community and university main stage, where world-class artists, entertainers and lectures perform and live events, such as graduations, concerts, recitals, occur. Improvements will enhance the Emens experience for future audiences. We would like to thank those who aided in the funding of these enhancements with gifts from individuals, corporations and foundations, who recognize the importance of having a facility such as Emens Auditorium in Delaware County. Temporary Box Office The Emens Box Office will also be temporarily relocated across the street to the Sursa Hall box office. On the night of events, box office staff will be available at the MU and AC entrances two hours prior to each performance to assist with will call and additional event sales.

During this time however, Emens will be using two alternate entrance locations indicated on the map below as the ‘Hargreaves Music Entrance’ (MU) and ‘Arts & Communications Entrance’ (AC).

Legends in Concert: World’s Greatest Live Tribute Show

‘Enra’ is a visual dance performance troupe from Japan performing stunningly unique animation-based digital performances. The images used in the performances are not attuned to the dancers, but interactively staged in a way never imagined before. The members of Enra are experts in genres including martial arts, gymnastics, ballet, animation dance, juggling and street dance.

Underwater Bubble Show November 22 - 7:00 p.m.

The well-balanced blend of drama, mime, dance, puppetry, juggling, contortionism, sand art and magic, with the amazing beauty of soap bubbles make “B” unique and perfect for any audience. Inspired by the famous Canadian troupe “Cirque du Soleil”, the show is rich in various stage effects using the latest laser technologies, snow cannons, soap bubble tornadoes, theatrical fog, gigantic smoke rings, smoke-filled soap bubble machines, optical illusions and many other surprises.

The Ten Tenors:

Home for the Holidays December 7 - 7:30 p.m. Returning to Muncie with their Home for the Holidays Tour, The Ten Tenors will perform beloved Christmas melodies from classic to modern. Undoubtedly one of Australia’s most successful touring entertainment groups of all time, they have had more than 90 million people worldwide witnessing their unmistakable charm and vocal power. The Ten Tenors have cemented their place as one of the worlds most loved classically based contemporary music groups.

America’s Hometown Band: Christmas Date/Time - To Be Announced Celebrate the spirit of Christmas with this year’s production program of our America’s Hometown Band, led by Roger McConnell. This year’s performance will highlight the Jazz Band and feature special guest and Wizard of the Xylophone, David Robbins. The Band includes a roster of BSU and East Central Indiana connected performers, and will play in the comfortable and warm festive holiday setting of Emens Auditorium.

March 2 - 7:30 p.m. STOMP is explosive, provocative, sophisticated, sexy, utterly unique and appeals to audiences of all ages. The international percussion sensation has garnered an armful of awards and rave reviews, and has appeared on numerous national television shows. The eight-member troupe uses everything but conventional percussion instruments â&#x20AC;&#x201C; matchboxes, wooden poles, brooms, garbage cans, Zippo lighters, hubcaps â&#x20AC;&#x201C; to fill the stage with magnificent rhythms.

Take a blustery brass line-up, layer it over a rhythm section led by a stride-piano virtuoso in the Fats Waller vein, and tie the whole thing together with a one-of-the-boys front woman with a voice from another era, and you have the Hot Sardines. The Havana Cuba All-Stars: The Asere Friendship Tour September 8 - 7:30 p.m. Comprised of Cuba’s greatest and most prominent musicians, The Havana Cuba All-Stars is devoted to promoting the entire tapestry of Cuban music with inventive songwriting and a fresh sound. Drawing their inspiration from traditional Cuban Son, The Havana Cuba All-Stars have created and maintained the songs and music of the rich culture of the Cuban people in the program, “Cuban Nights.”

Women of the World September 15 - 7:30 p.m.

Boston-based international ensemble, Women of the World, perform original and folk music from around the world, with a contemporary twist. Ayumi Ueda, a Berklee College of Music alumna from Japan, created a multicultural ensemble that not only crossed boundaries musically, but one that has committed to the ongoing practice of peace in their daily interactions. Ayumi joins forces with likeminded vocal artists, Giorgia Renosto from Italy, Annette Philip from India, and Débòrah Pierre from USA/Haiti to manifest this vision. After beginning their musical career at the ages of four and five, these seven blood brothers toured the United States with original jazz compositions written by their father, jazz trumpeter/band leader Kelan Phil Cohran. The brothers, known today as The Hypnotic Brass Ensemble took this jazz influence and combined it with the music of their generation (hip-hop, rock, reggae, etc.) to find their own unique brass sound.

World-class musicians, and an award winning voice seamlessly set the stage for a one-of-a-kind performance. World-renowned Indian classical musician, Ustad Shafaat Khan has distinguished himself by being the first known artist to have attained simultaneous excellence with the sitar, surbahar and tabla instruments. Performing at prestigious concert halls and festivals around the world, Khan has shared the stage with musicians such as Stevie Wonder Ray Charles. His unique concert presentations preserve the rich history of Indian classical/folk music with a multi-cultural fusion.

The Off-Broadway hit comedy Men Are From Mars â&#x20AC;&#x201C; Women Are From Venus LIVE!, is a one-man fusion of theatre and stand-up, and is a light-hearted theatrical comedy based on the New York Times #1 best-selling book of the last decade by John Gray. Moving swiftly through a series of vignettes, the show covers everything from dating and marriage to the bedroom. This hysterical show will have couples elbowing each other all evening as they see themselves on stage.

From such inauspicious beginnings, John McCutcheon has emerged as one of our most respected and loved folksingers. As an instrumentalist, he is a master of a dozen different traditional instruments, most notably the rare and beautiful hammer dulcimer. His songwriting has been hailed by critics and singers around the globe. His thirty recordings have garnered every imaginable honor including seven Grammy nominations.

Existing in the tension between tradition and frontier, Run Boy Run truly exceeds the sum of its parts as touches of classical, jazz, and folk express themselves through the old-time core of the bandâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s unique sound. Winners of the 2011 Telluride Bluegrass Festival Band Contest, Matt Rolland (fiddle, guitar), Grace Rolland (cello, vocals), Bekah Sandoval (fiddle, guitar, vocals), Jen Sandoval (mandolin, vocals), and Jesse Allen (bass) weave a spectacular tapestry of dynamic and beautiful music.

Sharon Shannon March 16 - 7:30 p.m. Sharon Shannon, accordionist from Ireland, has achieved legendary status throughout the world. Renowned for her collaborations, not just in Irish traditional music, but through all musical genres, Hip-Hop, Cajun, Country, Classical and Rap. She has entertained US Presidents Clinton and Obama and Irish Presidents Robinson and MacAleese.

Jive Aces April 6 - 7:30 p.m. Having become the first ever band to reach the semi finals of Britain’s Got Talent in 2012 following up with a performance for Her Majesty The Queen as part of the Diamond Jubilee celebrations and performances for both the Olympic and Paralympic celebrations, The Jive Aces have truly established themselves as the UK’s top Jive & Swing band. They are renowned for their high-energy Jump Jive music and spectacular stage show.

Wailin’ Jennys April 20 - 7:30 p.m. The Wailin’ Jennys are Nicky Mehta, Ruth Moody and Heather Masse—three distinct voices that together make an achingly perfect vocal sound. In 2004, The Wailin’ Jennys released their first full-length album 40 Days in the to great critical acclaim, and in 2005 it won them a Juno Award (Canadian Grammy) for Roots & Traditional Album of the Year. Bolstered by their frequent appearances on Garrison Keillor’s public radio show A Prairie Home Companion, The Jennys exploded onto the roots music scene.

Turtle Island Quartet January 17 - 7:30 p.m. Since its inception in 1985, the Turtle Island Quartet has been a singular force in the creation of bold, new trends in chamber music for strings. Winner of the 2006 and 2008 GRAMMY® Awards for Best Classical Crossover category, Turtle Island fuses the classical quartet aesthetic with contemporary American musical styles, and by devising a performance practice that honors both, the state of the art has inevitably been redefined. Cellist nonpareil Yo-Yo Ma has proclaimed TIQ to be “a unified voice that truly breaks new ground – authentic and passionate – a reflection of some of the most creative music-making today.”

Tzu-Yin Huang October 6 - 7:30 p.m. Winner of the 12th Hastings International Piano Concerto Competition, Tzu-Yin Huang began playing the piano at the age of four in Taiwan. She also recently won the National Taiwan Normal University Piano Concerto Competition and the Yamaha Piano Competition. Huang has performed with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (UK), is a performing artist of Chamber Music Michigan, and is currently pursuing her doctoral degree at the University of Michigan.

Jerusalem Quartet November 10 - 7:30 p.m. The Jerusalem Quartet, hailed by The Strad as “one of the young, yet great quartets of our time,” has won audiences the world over and has garnered international acclaim for its rare combination of passion and precision. Formed while students at the Jerusalem Conservatory of Music and Dance, they found a quickly shared commitment to music that has not only endured, but has propelled them to the highest level of performance.

Chanticleer April 9 - 7:30 p.m. Called “the world’s reigning male chorus” by The New Yorker magazine, the San Francisco based GRAMMY® award-winning ensemble Chanticleer celebrates its 39th season in 2016-17. Tickets may be purchased in person at the Emens box office, via mail using the order form, by phone at (800) 745-3000, or online at www.ticketmaster.com. Orders processed less than seven days prior to a performance will be held at the box office. Hours: The Emens Auditorium box office is open Monday-Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and two hours prior to each performance. Summer hours are 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday-Friday. Due to the nature of performing arts contractual agreements, program dates, times, and prices are subject to change and/or cancellation. Curtain Times: Curtain times vary. Please check your tickets for start times. Our staff makes every effort to open lobby doors at least thirty minutes prior to performances. Tickets for Children: Regardless of age, everyone in attendance must have a ticket, sit in a seat, and be able to sit quietly throughout the performance. Not all performances are appropriate for children. If you are unsure, ask a box office representative prior to purchasing if the event is appropriate for your child. Out of respect to all patrons, we discourage bringing infants to any performance. Restrooms: Facilities are located on the balcony and lower levels at Emens Auditorium. Restrooms are also located in the adjacent buildings, AC & MU.

Late Seating: According to artist contractual agreements, patrons who arrive late will be asked to wait in the lobby and will be seated at the first appropriate break in the program. We make every attempt to begin each performance on time. Special Accommodations: Please call the Emens box office to order tickets if you have special needs. Emens Auditorium is equipped with an accessible elevator for our mobilityimpaired patrons. Wheelchair accessible seating is located throughout the auditorium. Booster seats are available for children. For our hearing-impaired patrons we offer infrared listening systems at the box office. Please alert the box office as to any special needs at least two weeks prior to an event. Recording Devices, Cameras & Cell Phones: Due to contractual agreements and as a courtesy to those around you, use of electronic equipment is not permitted in the auditorium. Please be sure to silence cell phones.

Parking: There are parking garages located behind Emens and across the street from the Auditorium behind the Music Instruction Building. As the Emens parking structure fills up quickly, we strongly recommend that you use the garage located behind the Music Instruction Building just off Ashland Avenue. Free shuttle service is available for all Artist Series events. Parking for shuttle service is located just off of McKinley Avenue and Gilbert Street in the yellow lots, as well as the garage. The shuttle runs one hour prior to each performance and resumes immediately following. Drop-off service is allowed for patrons unable to walk long distances. Handicap parking is located along the east drive adjacent to Emens and in the Emens and Ashland Avenue garages.

Temporary Box Office The Emens main lobby and front entrance will be closed for construction of our lobby expansion project. During this time however, Emens will using two alternate entrance locations indicated on the map below as the ‘Hargreaves Music Entrance’ (MU) and Arts & Communications Entrance’ (AC).

If your seats are located in Sections A, B or C we recommend using the west ‘Hargreaves Music Entrance’ (MU) for your convenience.

If your seating location is in Sections C, D or E, the ‘Arts & Communication Entrance’ (AC) is available on the east side of the building.
