DESIGN STRATEGY STATEMENT SS16 People of the Veil

The upcoming SS2016 has never been so bright and vibrant. It is a season when you don’t want to wrap up or wear too much extra clothing. It is the season when you do not want to wear anything too heavy, but still want something warm and comfortable. The feeling of freeness and lightness within your garment is what's truly desired. Now is the season of floating silhouettes and corresponding light fabrics, such as linen and pure cotton. A modest and reserved pale sandy brown pastel, influenced from the shades of the Sahara desert is intensified with the vibrancy of an indigo blue. The silhouettes of the collection will be influenced by traditional robes and turbans of Tuareg’s culture. This inspiration could lead onto unusual pattern cutting techniques combined with substile free-flowing fabrics. Most high fashion designers have over experimented and indulged with tailored clothing. Cropped and high waisted culottes are introduced in this season worked over with light fabrics to give weightlessness and free-flowing movement. Structured and dynamic tops in vibrant indigo with embellishment in dark blues and brownie orange across the back and the shoulder provide interesting pattern details, as well as indigo dyed fabric in fringing details. Labels like Comme des Garcons and Junya Watanabe complement the mood of the season with subtle similarities in detail and composition of free-flowing fabrics with interesting subtraction pattern techniques. It reminds you of those exciting and fun moments, feeling comfortable or being submerged within your personal free time. A woman's confidence and harmony is celebrated and projected through a thoughtful rich indigo blue, which is the colour of perception, intuition and the higher mind. Furthermore, reworked gathering and smocking details as an applique onto fabric will create captivating texture, reminiscing of the Tuareg people living in Sahara desert.
