I worked in the healthcare department, specifically on the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital team. I was given a lot of responsiblity on the projects, I managed construction documents, coordinated with engineers, and participated on the design team. I also had the opportunity to participate in a proposal for Cincinnati’s City Hall Atrium Redesign, where I developed diagrams, models and the proposal package.
Another architect and I worked on a competition entry for the Kimball Art Center Transformation Project. I led the construction of the model and created diagrams, I was also included in every design meeting with both the principals of the firm. I also worked on the Banyan Park Complex in Mumbia, India and the Barnes Foundation in Philadelphia, Pa.

I worked on a team designing a recreation center for a local Baltimore community, participated in design development, construction documention, schematic design, and presentation preparation. I also had a chance to develop original ideas and proposals.
I participated in field measuring, developing AutoCAD landscape drawings, designing presentation boards, and general office work. This was a very small firm, so I had the opportunity to spend a lot of time with the principals and learned a lot about the design field.

Tod Wi l l i a m s B i l l i e Ts i e n Archit e c t s EXPERIENCE The majority of my time while working for Tod Williams Billie Tsien Architects was dedicated to helping develop a competition entry for the Kimball Art Center Transformation Project. Five architecture firms were invited to design the new Kimball Art Center in Park City, Utah (home of the Sundance Film Festival). The Kimball’s goals were to increase community outreach, enhance the quality and scale of their exhibitions, and inspire patrons. Competitors were also asked to preserve/ restore the current historic structure that is now home to the Kimball. Another architect and I worked on the competition entry. I led the construction of the model and actively participated in every design meeting with the principals of the firm. I also worked on the design teams for the Banyan Park Complex in Mumbai, India, and the Barnes Foundation in Philadelphia, PA. I constructed models, researched, and sat in on client meetings. I worked on other various projects in the office, depending on which ones were in need of assistance. While working at TWBTA, I got the opportunity to explore New York City during my work hours. Whether is was to take site photographs, pick up lumber at the city lumber yard, or document their currently built projects, they really wanted their interns to explore gain a good understanding of such an architectural city. It was a unique and invaluable experience.

GBBN A r c h i t e c t s EXPERIENCE I was given a lot of responsibility during this internship, seeing that this was my longest and final co-op experience. I worked mainly with the healthcare department, but before I delved into those projects I worked on a redesign proposal for Cincinnati City Hall. Another architect and I worked on a proposal to transform the currently unused atrium space into a sheltered banquet and event space. I had a big role through out the design process, from the initial sketches to the final presentation package. The healthcare team was one of the largest and busiest department in the office. The projects were very fast paced and there were constant deadlines that needed to be met. I worked closely with the architects for the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, developing construction drawings, meeting with clients, coordinating with engineers, and developing proposals. When I first started working for them I told them I wanted to be pushed to my limit. I wanted to know what it felt like to be stressed at work, which is a feeling I never really experienced on my other internships. They definitely delivered on that promise. I constantly had work to do, which was a great experience. I realized that I could handle the work load of a professional. Simply, I realized that I could actually do this, be an architect, and that I truly enjoyed it. GBBN treated me like an actual employee and not so much an intern, which was an experience I really appreciated.

A Visua l C u l t u r e EXPERIENCE A visual culture is the relationship between people and their environment and how that environment is perceived. Photography plays a vital role in how I perceive my environment. It allows me to visually document my explorations and capture the moments that spark my creativity. My photography tends to focus on emphasizing color and texture. I perceive our environment as being full of opportunities to explore and experience. This is one of the reasons why I love architecture: wandering, exploring, and experiencing is all part of our education. I’m just lucky that I have a camera while I do it.
thank you!
