Name Title Organization
Dear First Name Last Name:
I am writing with great enthusiasm to apply for the position of Job Title. I bring extensive experience in recruiting/outreach as well as counseling and advising University of Oregon graduate students in their career development. I am familiar with Chemistry and Biochemistry graduate students through my work at the University of Oregon Career Center. I have greatly enjoyed working with UO grad students, and I would like to bring my skills in recruiting/outreach, program development, event planning, and communication to support the career, and professional development of the departments of Chemistry and Biochemistry’s prospective and current students.
My experiences at the University of Oregon and Alvord Taylor have given me the skills to recruit prospective students for the program. In my first role at the University of Oregon Career Center coordinating the Mentor/Career Connections Program, I maintained and expanded a network of career professionals from a variety of industries who volunteered their time to connect with UO students for informational interviews. In that role, I identified alumni and parents/friends of the university as well as community members to recruit for the Career Connections network as well as the quarterly Networking Night event. These experiences have given me the ability to talk with professionals of varying levels of seniority and experience from a variety of industries about the Career Connections Program and to successfully recruit them to volunteer their time to help UO students. The Networking Night event proved to be so successful with students that I was asked to redevelop it as a much larger event with the participation of Career Center employer partners and the UO Alumni Association. In that role, I also supervised the recreation of the Career Connections network from an Access database only available to Career Center staff into a true network which allowed eligible students to search and connect with the professional volunteers through the Career Center’s CMS, Symplicity. As a result, I have experience with back-end administration in a CMS and how to set up a network using such a platform successfully.
I have honed my recruiting skills in my most recent experience. At Alvord Taylor, I am responsible for outreach and the interviewing, hiring, and onboarding of prospective candidates for multiple roles, both entry-level and managerial. I also assist with developing marketing materials for social media, print, radio, and TV ads. Because Alvord Taylor is part of an industry which has very high turnover, my work has focused on developing strategies for identifying prospective candidates who are a good fit for the organization as well as utilizing multiple methods for outreach and connecting them. I have interviewed managers and current Direct Support Professionals to determine both the characteristics and experiences that make candidates successful in the role. I have re-written job descriptions to target specific experiences and skill sets. I also utilizing the professional network and contacts I have developed to reach out to individuals at organizations who can promote my job opportunities to targeted audiences with the goal of establishing relationships and recruiting pipelines. I am also working on creating workflows and structures that make better and more efficient use of our ATS and HCM system in order to shorten the time between initial application evaluation and offer of employment. This role has allowed me to expand on my

previous recruiting experience as well as to gain additional experience in systems that manage the application process.
In all of my roles, I have made extensive use of various technologies. In addition to various CMS systems, I have used InDesign to extensively revise the class handbook I used in Career Classes at the Career Center as well as cloud publishing and design programs such as Canva and infogr.am in order to create materials and infographics. I collaborated closely with the Marketing Specialist at the Career Center on various marketing collateral for the Go Intern! and Career Connections Programs and marketed both programs on the Career Center’s Facebook page and Twitter feed. I have used the Microsoft Office Suite for ten years, especially Outlook, Word, and Powerpoint, and most recently, Office 365.
My previous and current experience has given me the ability to reach out to individuals and to form relationships and partnerships which is the heart of recruiting and retention, whether it is an alumnus volunteer, a prospective student, or a new employee. I am excited about the opportunity to support your department through recruiting students who are an excellent fit and who go on to become successful in their chosen fields as UO alumni . I would like the opportunity to interview for the position. Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely, Kristine F. Lodge
