WELCOME A MESSAGE FROM THE FACADES+ DIRECTOR Welcome to Facades+ Los Angeles! The Architect’s Newspaper is nearing the end our sixth year of the Facades+ conference program. We are pleased to welcome new attendees and longtime supporters to the program’s dynamic dialogue. We strive to bring fresh and relevant programming to each city, and have enjoyed the loyalty of our “facade geeks” who attend every event and come from around the globe to attend Facades+. Los Angeles is a center of innovation across the AEC industry, from experiments with high performing materials to resiliency strategies. Facades+ Los Angeles brings together top professionals from the worlds of design, fabrication, and construction to consider how high-performance envelopes contribute to Los Angeles distinctive character and meet the city’s growing needs.

Diana Darling The Architect’s Newspaper Publisher Conference Director

Thursday’s symposium features keynote addresses by Stanley Saitowitz and Julie Eizenberg with Nathan Bishop, plus exciting work by Lorcan O’Herlihy and Alice Kimm. You’ll be treated to panel discussions on topics ranging from LA’s new stadiums and supportive housing to a close look at the new U.S. Federal Courthouse and leading researchers from LA’s top design programs. On Friday, we delve into hands-on lab and deep-dive workshops with expert practitioners across the industry. We’d like to thank our conference co-chairs, SOM’s Paul Danna, José Luis Palacios, and Garth Ramsey, who have helped curate a program of innovators from a variety of fields. We invite you to connect with presenters and your peers during networking breaks in the Methods+Materials Gallery. Please get to know these industry-leading sponsors in the Methods+Materials Gallery and learn how they shape the future of building facade technology. Has Facades+ struck a chord with you? Have a look at our upcoming 2018 events, including our next two-day conference in New York next April, and Facades+AM, a quick-take version of Facades+ held in cities across the country. We’ll next be headed to Seattle on December 8th.

Dionne Darling The Architect’s Newspaper Associate Publisher

Also mark May 22nd, 2018 in your calendar for the 2nd edition of TECH+ Forum and Expo in NYC showcasing the future of technology in the AEC industry. You won’t want to miss it. We are eager to hear from you about how we might improve the Facades+ experience. Talk to us. And please spread the word—help us continue to grow the Facades+ dialogue and community.
