01 UNIVERSALIZED CONNECTIONS FOR PLANAR HEX TIMBER PLATE STRUCTURES DOUBLE CURVATURE SURFACES Master Thesis MPDA Thesis Studio // Semester Two // Individual Work The thesis seeks to enhance the flexibility of fabricating and constructing timber plate structures with Planar Hex form for a double curvature surface. It focuses on solving connection(s) to develop a radical strategy to synthesize Timber plate structure with Planar Hex, such that it could be applied to any double curvature surface efficiently, to built a self-stable structure. Therefore, a systematic process has been followed to attain this connection design, which in combination of material and form enhancements allows for increase in reliability and precision of the assembly of this geometry easily on site. In order to achieve the desired connection design, physical & digital means of form-finding, analysis and fabrication techniques are used. This strategy proves that Planar Hex structures with this connection detail can be assembled on site rapidly with no reliability on high-tech machines and robotic technology and can be done using practical medium cost technology. Hypothesis: “Develop a radical strategy to solve connection(s) in order to synthesize TPS with PHex, such that it could be applied to any double curvature surface efficiently, to built a self-stable structure“.

ACTIVE BENDING HYBRID STRUCTURES Performative Based Design MPDA Studio 2 // Semester Two // Group Work Of Two The aim of the project is to explore the formal and functional possibilities in an integrated equilibrium systems of bendingactive elements and a form active Tensile membranes. The objective of the project is to achieve a structural balance between tension forces of fabric and bending energy stored in rigid elements, as the two energies combined together can create an efficient structural behavior and elegant forms. The structure is constructed with GFRP planks of thickness 20mm (100X10mm size double plank) in combination with textile membrane as continuous surfaces and open weave meshes. The elastic planks gain their stiffness from active bending into curved leaf shaped modules which are networked into a global structural system. Stress stiffening effects are activated by further deformation of the system through the integration of a prestressed membrane surface, and therefore create a fully Textile Hybrid system. The structure is comprised of 4 individual 35m GFRP planks (continuous) bolted together at specific intervals, anchored to ground with 4 foundations resting against angular concrete pedestals with a membrane tensile, anchored to ground. This allows to achieve large span structure of 15X 40m.
D. Elements 1. GFRC plank 2. Anchoring Detail (plank to ground) 3. Tennect clamping & Fastening System for tensile membrane structures.

ADAPTATION OF ATSUMISHI IMAI MEMORIAL GYMNASIUM JAPAN, 2002 ADAPTATION TO TOROIDAL SURFACE Parametrization Of Building Systems MPDA Studio 1 // Semester One // Group Work Of Two The Aim is to analyze the principles and ideology behind geodesic forms, hence bringing out its importance and see how it can be used to design a building efficiently. The Scope Of Study is to understand and parametrize the design systems of the given case study building and then adapt it to an arbitrary toroidal surface. The Hypothesis states that “By achieving single panel curvature placed parallel at equal distance to each other, the principles of geodesics can be adapted to any arbitrary shape. But in case of toroidal surface, the hypothesis turns out to be false, therefore modifications are made to achieve to the nearest result. Conclusion : It has to be a regular surface for geodesics to work. With regular surface, construction strategy works perfectly. The same strategy cannot be applied in any arbitrary surface because geodesics wont behave in the similar way and construction techniques needs modifications and geodesics have to be regular.
C. Results 1. Analyse & compare the distance between LSL wood panels in all cases B1.B2,B3,B4 2. Analyse the curvature of the laterals of wood panels to see how the curvature works.

BASED ON CONCEPT OF URBAN ATOMS Landscape Design // Rooftop Bus Garage, Horta, Barcelona MPDA Planning & Landscape Studio // Semester Two // Individual Work The aim of the project is to study in Grasshopper the project of the “Park of the bus garages of Horta in Barcelona. The project is based on the concept of Urban atoms. The form finding is inspired from the study of the compact circle packing system in the irrigation fields as shown in the picture below. The circle packing system can also be seen in the satellite netwroks of Keobe Theorem as shown below. Circle Packings can be used to approximate conformal mappings between specified domains. Every circle corresponds to its adjacent circle. therefore, each circle is assigned with a function based on the parameters: geometry, drains, filling, structure, vegetation, irrigation etc.

05 DIGITAL FABRICATION AND TOPOLOGY BOOT CAMPS 2D AND 3D MACHINING Fabrication projects // Medio Design, Barcelona; ETSAV, S.Cugat MPDA DF and Workshops, Semester One & Two // Group Work Fabrication with 2D machining involved a project where Planar Hex systems were studied and hence implemented on an arbitrary torus. Parametrization was done by setting the parameters on the basis of planar hex size and number. As Fabrication was done using KNK machine, therefore, stripes were made and together glued later. Digital Carving with 3D machining involved a project where Kashigata design were studies and hence implemented on a jewelery box of size 17X17X3cm. Prototypes were first made on RhinoCam and then fabricated using ROLAND machine on Styrofoam and the final prototype was made at Medio design. During the topology boot camp and workshops, various experiments were made and prototypes were produced.

12 MUSEUM OF MILITARY, MARINE & NAVIGATION HISTORY COMPETITION PROPOSAL Capo D’Orso, Sardinia, italy Professional Work // 2018 concept : SPACES & VOIDS AS REFLECTIONS OF FLUID NATURE theme : RE-VIVE the historical significance and identity of fortress precinct and its response to Capo d’orso. RE-LIVE fort as a symbol of past, present and future of Italy’s heritage & culture. RE-LINK the old and new spaces. OLD Spaces & voids : the old aesthetics are maintained and reused effectively. The fort wall has been extended and re-used for re-link purposes. The barracks, bastions, vaulted archways, niches are re-used adaptively. NEW Spaces & voids : the new aesthetics are linked as a labyrinth (maze), spatially & visually linking the site as a whole. The FLUID landscape congregates the site as whole. Museum designed as a labyrinth of tunnels and trenches as is the fort. Abstracted from the concept of tunnel , the new museum is designed as a part of double curvature torus. It has been designed as a sanctum of solace (autonomous structure) Memorial “BOWL OF REMEMBRANCE” a healing bowl; balance of nature : earth/sky/fire/water. just as water moves to fill a void inside the bowl, so too will new energy move to fill yours. Re-use of barracks as hotel suites & dormitory and new volumes as bunkers for military experience.
