Strategy
The current corona-virus pandemic has brought nationwide lock-downs and social distancing orders. Our daily lives feel polarized. Looking out of our windows, we noticed something: no city trains or buses were running. This led us to wonder, what happens to public transportation in a pandemic and the people that rely on it? Our research started with primary research question, “How might we provide a system of transport that can help the common people commute safely?” The project aimed to apply Double Diamond Method and other Design Thinking tools such as Ethnographic research, Insight sorting, Journey mapping, User research and feedback to solve the problem and arrive at a tangible solution. SafePort is multi-approach design solution that offers a safer and more secure transport system by adapting the current transport system to the COVID-19 pandemic. It provides a safer and trustworthy environment from the moment when user enters the subway station and throughout the journey until the user exits the station by providing sanitation booth, spreading awareness about social distancing, maintaining and showcasing cleanliness, and reducing physical contact.
Double Diamond method
Deliver
In order to gather quantitative data, we created a survey. These results pointed me towards the basic direction of the problem. We interviewed various stakeholders including active public transport users, MTA employees and healthcare workers that gave qualitative insights.

Primary Research Insights
96%
respondents find distancing difficult
86%
respondents do not completely trust sanitation in public transport
“I prefer not to use it anymore considering the lack of awareness in people around me.”
“I feel like it is way more risky now to use public transport, but since I don’t have a car I have to use to buy groceries.”
80%
respondents have stopped using public transport
PROBLEM STATEMENT :
How might we provide a system of transport that can help the common people commute safely amid a pandemic? What people cannot see makes them uncertain; sanitation lacks a tangible presence
63%
respondents use digital means to obtain transport schedule.
Visual density in the transport influences user’s perception

Switch (on-going project) Project type : Design Strategy | Spring 2021 Project : M.A. Capstone Project Project Duration : 10 Weeks (5th week progress) Individual Project My current capstone project combines my experience in the built environment and knowledge of sustainability, to drive consumer behavior change through design strategy. Residential buildings have such a significant environmental and health impact. Looking at our future housing needs and existing construction practices, we can no longer sustain. By building green, we can reduce the effect of our buildings on climate change while also enhancing well-being and resilience in our homes and communities. However, only a small percentage of all houses are actually constructed in accordance with green building requirements. This green building movement can be quickly adapted if there is a positive mindset in homeowners toward green building. So, there is a chance for behavior change to drive and transform home-buyers toward adopting sustainable building practices. As a result, convert their concern into actions and help homeowners become an active agent of change in their community. The project’s final outcome will be an interactive toolkit that would assist architects and designers in educating their clients about green building strategies.

Erotic arts in India was once highly appreciated and accepted in the society of that time and showcased publicly on sacred temple walls like Khajuraho and in several other forms. But artists in India now find it difficult to even portray a naked canvas in public. This project is an attempt to showcase eroticism of India through arts in cultural & historical values and making erotic arts more acceptable in the current society, despite the western notion of sex and pornography, to make people aware of its antiquity & the influence of it on the world while showcasing the vastness of erotic arts, its depth, diversity and relevance in present times. The museum takes a visitor on a journey which is comprised of several experiences which gives different feelings that changes the visitor’s perception. The museum spaces are treated as “boxes of the spectacle” which give different experiences through various mediums.

03 | MUSEUM OF EROTICA
Conceptual Take
Dichotomy is a bipolar condition which exists in Indian society when it comes to erotica. Eroticism is considered as an intimate topic but Indian heritage has always celebrated it, whether its carvings on the walls of temple or in an intricate miniature painting. This is also seen in Indian mythological theories of Shiva and Shakti, Linga and Yoni, and many others. The notion of erotica is always a complicated network of paths in which it is difficult to choose a single way to achieve that feeling. With layers of information, the idea of eroticism is a maze in itself. The varied network of surfaces form unique labyrinthine volumes that define each point as a new experience in the journey of an individual visitor in space. The dichotomy is enhanced by the surprise boxes of exhibits that invokes a deep emotional feeling through the space in oneself.

Oath Media Internship - Perkins&Will Project type : Workplace interior | Professional Experience Location : New York City. Head Designer : Brent Capron, John Sadlon Oath, now Verizon’s media unit, houses brands like Yahoo, TechCrunch and HuffPost deliver content that helps people stay informed and entertained, communicate and transact. Located at 770 Broadway, Oath houses workspace and broadcast studios for its brands. The project brief was to introduce cafe, meeting place & redevelop broadcast studios with more efficiency. Our proposal looked at space as a Media Marketplace that creates a “House of Brands”. This was done by allowing architectural form, materials and a layering of textures speak for themselves while dynamic video and graphic imagery let the Oath brands take center stage.

The studio focuses on integrating the concept of sustainability into the design and development processes with the specific intent to drive consumer behavior change through strategic business practices. By applying sustainable principles and methods to design innovative solutions that meet the needs and wants of the present while minimizing the negative and maximizing the positive impact on the future. Based on that we chose Ohio based purpose driven mattress brand: Naturepedic and leverage innovative sustainability strategies to enhance brand equity and business performance. Our final solution highlights issues such as: reducing mattress in landfills, a take back program, minimizing impact and creating a better experience. From the research insights and strategies, we determined that the best solution to these issues was removing the traditional way of shopping for a mattress, with a more circular approach. Incorporating the circular economy model in Naturepedic helps customer to use the product for a longer period and increases the value of product. It helps to keep products, materials and components, in use longer within the circular economy, by providing cleaning service and rental model.

Circular Business Model A butterfly model inspired from the Ellen MacArthur Foundation’s Circular economyshowing how the business model of the concept will work. Through a step by step it showcases, how the cleaning service, rental model, moving service, buy back program and mattress recycling will create a circular model for Naturepedic.
05 | NATUREPEDIC
This part of the service is best for people with uncertainty about how long are they going to stay within their current space. For them there is no need to invest, instead they can rent it trough this program. When a customer rents a mattress, it is first delivered for them to use and afterwards returned to Naturepedic, where it is sanitized and prepared to be re-used by the next consumer.
Circular Business Model How It Works?
Naturepedic provides a complimentary cleaning service within six months of purchase. The cleaning service will arrive in a van powered by green energy, and the customer will receive a Loop gift. If the customer needs to relocate, Naturepedic will take back the old mattress and replace it with a new one at their new location for a fee. The old mattress will be then returned to Naturpedic and will either be recycled or used for other products.

Siesta: Pod Hotel Project type : Hospitality | Sem. 8 Location : Ahmedabad, India. Merit project : Adaptive reuse The “Pod hotel” project is born from the idea that some people would like to have a rest during various moments of the day, for example during their lunch break or between the waiting time in commute. For this reason, “Pod hotel” aims to offer its customers a break from a chaotic city and a stressful timetable, providing them a private place where to relax and to rest before they restart working or embark on their journey. Inside the building, in fact, there are particular “sleeping points” which can be rented for a short period of time or a full day depending on user’s need and availability. Hence the name of the hotel was named Siesta (Spanish), which means a short rest or nap, especially one taken during the hottest hour of the day in hot climate. Site is an abandon - modern brick & concrete building, earlier used as shopping center located in heart of Ahmedabad city. It is nearby heavily populated and major bus stations and business area. Hence it was appropriate to introduce Pod Hotel programme, that can cater to long distant commuters as well as local people as a resting-cum-work stop.

“Symbiotic Duality” Duality is synchronized condition that exist in most things that gives us poetic conversation of balance and unity. The concept is inspired from the new programme of Pod hotel which has Sleep+Work space and it also reflects in site's architectural & structural expression. The concept of duality/contrast is manifested in design through form, scale, materials & perspective as context of new brand design. One can refer this concept in Chinese theory of Wabi & Sabi or Japanese theory of Yin & Yang, the country where idea of capsule hotel was emerged.

This experimental Pavilion was designed and built as a part of Make+Learn material studio project. The purpose of the project was to learn a new material and technology as well as to apply the understanding for developing various forms using digital and parametric methods. While brain storming, we realized that the blind have only two sources of communication; one is the dotted tiles & textures and the other is Braille. So we decided to create a leisure space for their recreation. The form referred as pod was built of interlocked PU sheets & Corian, installed in the atrium of a business complex. The two part, pod is divided into banking area and cafeteria for visually challenged people. From starting ideation to final execution on site, entire project was completed in 7 weeks with a team of 25 students and 3 tutors.

The pavilion houses a complete range of furniture from cafe chairs, cafe tables, bank centre table and range of informal cafe stools. All the furniture was in continuation of the interlocking joinery, as same language followed in the pavilion fabrication. Entire range of furnitures were made with 18mm plywood and finished with base putty & white paint.

"Change Now", Double exposure Mural, September 2019.
Change Now Climatic events like the Amazon forest fire and the deforestation plans at Aarey forest in Mumbai are just two of the many instances that make Climate Change a harsh truth and a stark reality. Not just nature, but entire communities and cultures will be irrevocably affected by Global warming, one of the major contributors to climate change. This global threatening message was articulated through a wall painting done by me as a part of the 29th Foundation Day of Faculty of Design at CEPT University. Anaglyph 3D was chosen as medium of representation for brilliant impact. It requires a Red&Cyan anaglyph 3D glasses to be able to see the difference of subjects.

Letter of Recommendation INTERN FOR ARCHITECTURE + DESIGN POSITION To Whom it May Concern: FZAD, Architecture + Design, P.C. (www.fzad.com) is a New York City based firm that has been in business for over 30 years. We have developed a wide range of different types of projects and offer services from design to documents to building department filing both in architectural interiors and interior design. As principal of the firm, I believe in a strong internship program as a way to give back. We want our interns to work on real projects with real deadlines so that their work matters. They are expected to show up on time and work the day as part of the staff so by the end on their internship they understand better the profession in NYC and what the demands are. We have lunches on Friday as a team to talk about NYC and to talk about plans for the weekend and look at projects pinned up on the walls to see what the firm is working on so the intern feels acclimated to the firm and NYC. This is to certify that Mr. Krunal Patel, Interior design student from Centre for Environmental Planning and Technology University (CEPT), India has succesfully completed the position as Interiors Intern in our New York office FZAD Architecture+Design from 9th November, 2016 to 2nd June 2017. Throughout his time with our firm, he demonstrated critical skills that would make him an excellent employee. Krunal did a good job in his position and was an asset to our design firm during his tenure with the office. He had a working knowledge of autocad and sketch up that he applied in our firm's various projects. During his internship he read the IBC code and NYC Codes and started to have an appreciation for the code aspect of projects along with creating a set of building department drawings. We also had him start detailing and understanding the complexity of detailing a project. Krunal was willing to offer his assistance and had an excellent rapport with our office staff. He was friendly and outgoing. He would be an asset to any employer, and I recommend him for your organization and endeavor he chooses to pursue as he starts off in his career path. Please let me know if you have any further questions.
