DEFINING THE 1960’S. Fahion has always reflected the spirit of times, the zietgeist, be it sexuality, identity, gender or politics. The 1960s was an important decade for fashion because it was the first time in history that clothing was geared towards the youth market; and featured a wide number of diversified trends. It was a decade that broke many fashion traditions, mirroring social movements during the period. In this project we had to study about the events that were happening in the 1960’s all over the world and how designers and icons who influenced fashion made the events turn into fashion trends as revolution. Which helped me understand that what people wear is defined by the city around them. The outcome of this research was a well finished sheath dress with cowl keeping the 60’s influences and fashion forecast for Spring-Summer 2019 in mind.

The 1960s was a decade of rapid change. Blink for one second and you would have missed it. It was the period that finally allowed people the liberty and individuality people had fought for and what we take for granted nowadays.

One of the biggest, defining aspects of the 1960s was music. Although rock and roll began having an effect on Britain in the 1950s, it wasn’t until the early Sixties and the emergence of ‘British Invasion’ groups like The Beatles, that music truly began its revolutionary changes.

Feminism began to become a more influential ideology as more jobs became available to young women in the Sixties. This allowed them to move away from home and become more independent.

irrored many of the social changQuant became famous for popularhich became the epitome of 1960s fashion.

Fashions in the early years of the decade reflected the elegance of the First Lady, Jacqueline Kennedy.

The contraceptive pill became legalised for all women in 1967 and gave them the opportunity to broaden their hopes and dreams far beyond motherhood and marriage.

TRENDS AND FASHION. Designer’s took all the possibilities and opportunities to make the Fashion influence the times and streghten the REVOLUTION. It gave people a new way of expression , people got the opportunity to make their clothes define their idea and thoughts. Thus, Fashion became more experimental and individual and people were open to all kinds of looks. The 60’s decade openend their horizons of oppotunities and freedom to choice and to be more idependent with their thoughts.
