OBJECTIONS ON SPACE 1999 EPISODE “End Of Eternity”. The episode “End Of Eternity” is one of the best episodes of space 1999, written by Johnny Brine. But this could have have been made better. [One must not confuse it by a novel of the very same title. The End of Eternity is a 1955 science fiction novel by American writer Isaac Asimov, with mystery and thriller elements, on the subjects of time travel and social engineering.[See Weki paedia]
Summary: Alphians/Alphans saw an Asteroid and detected a breathable condition inside it, not on it. When they landed on the Asteroid for investigation they made explosions to go inside it. Inside it they found a one room world with only one occupant who was seriously hurt and injured due to explosion. Latter it was found that he was a citizen of the Planet Progon , and people of Progon achieved immortality. But there are certain loops in the story in constitute loop wholes. 1] It is shewn that the closed door of the room was blasted and the only occupant [Balor] was seriously injured. This means he was not invulnerable to this type of blast. Alphans could have tried to injure Balor by making such a blast, somewhere in the base. But not even a single advise was given neither in support of it nor against it. Such a blast would not have killed Balor but must have made him unconscious for sufficient period of time to get rid of him before he would get healed. 2] In an other scene it is seen that Balor did not die by Laser guns of Alphans but pain was inflected upon him. So Alphans/Alphians could have inflicted pains by firing by their Laser weapons ,to compel him to come to negotiation, and they could force him to leave the base ALPHA on the wandering moon. 3] It is seen in the end that an Eagle fired a strong ray which destroyed the Asteroid for a short period of time. After that it must have regenerated it self since it was indestructible in the sense it must always regenerate itself even if it was disintegrated to atoms or molecules. Even the bombardment of Anti Matter could not destroy it perpetually as shewn in a scene when the late Burgman tried to destroy it by using Anti Matter Marticles. Any how a laser equivalent to that of an Eagle could have destroyed Balor for a long period of time sufficiently long enough o get rid of him. Since if the regeneration process would have started , first Balors Body would have been regenerated , and his wounds would have been healed , and lastly he must have taken some time before he would have resurrected after the formation and reformation of his body.
4] It is not explained whether he required food and water or did not required them. A man hungry and thirsty for a thousand years did not ask for water and food after he was released . Very interesting question. If the perpetual hunger and perpetual thirst could not kill him even then they must have inflicted him a pain for a thousand years. 5] Was Balor able to live without air [Probably Oxygen if he is not breathing any other gas on his planet]? If not then he was not immortal. If yes then he could have lived with out breathing ,however the pain of suffocation must be continued for a thousand years. But those who imprisoned him made a breathable chamber to save him from suffocation. Why? 6] Some objections are omitted .Like the body of the Bolor cannot project beyond the escape velocity of the moon. So Balor soner or latter must have fallen on the moon once again. But no steps were taken to do any thing in precaution. Also to destroy the asteroid was unwise since it was a good place to impression Balor once again once for all times . The story of Bryne may be extended in different ways. I am determined to extend in in my way. Perhaps some day I may present my own version of the story. Bryne said that He also based the character of Balor on precedents throughout Earth history.
“Balor was named after Baal, an old Indo-European God,” Byrne explained. “Those who worshipped Baal gave their first born to him in these horrible human sacrifices. That is something echoed in the story, that Balor needs placating, and that his appeasement can only be achieved through the pain and suffering of others. Basically, he saw the Alphans as 311 laboratory rats that he could do with as he pleased.” But my interest is due to an other reason that there is a religion who believe that their leader is in a cave for a thousand years. That is interesting.
