GAME BOX

Bologna factory has been transformed into multifunctional park of sport and art. Main concept of the project is made with respect to the existing structure. Major changes were based on building’s flexibility, which helped to create dynamic design of functions and gave significant character of place. New places of gathering people are designed to encourage different groups of the multicultural society of Bologna to meet in the public spaces. Industry has become perfect spot for mix use structures combining working places, sport activities and cultural areas together with residential neighbourhood. T he project itself consists of five main areas-boxes, joined up by a main entrance. Variety of activities in divided area presents their own characters in boxes. Those are the places where the different users andvisitors of the building meet each other. Each area is characterised by a different colour and it has its own unique style. Most of the spaces are designed to be flexible with a possibility to transform it to a different function.

X-HOUSE

The motivation of the local community for engaging in the transformation of Vester Hæsinge School stems from a crisis – the risk for Vester Hæsinge’s depopulation , and a dream – the opportunity to create social value by uniting the dynamic surrounding nature with an active effort towards promoting health, cultural and social related activities. By integrating a local community center with sports clubs, communal welfare provision and other health related functions, a strong platform to promote social innovation is created. The different activities can be housed by the different ‘arms’ of the X-HOUSE. This allows for a big flexibility in terms of phased development. Each ‘arm’ can be retrofitted according to different schedules and different financial schemes. The center of the X provides the best opportunities to centralize the access and distribution to the different functions, while in the same time providing the opportunity to create a diagonal– connection between the most active outdoor spaces: parking and arrival towards North East, and the green recreational area towards South West.

SUSTAINABLE LIV’in

The vision of the project was to create a sustainable housing complex, offering attractive apartments to the new generation of inhabitants in the single family houses. In order to design compact dwellings with suburban qualities, different concept has been taken into use by bringing light, air and greenery into city. Some of the qualities found in the suburbs which takes up a lot of space in the homes, are turned in to common facilities resulting in party rooms, extra guest rooms, storage and laundry being shared. The indoor environment has been analysed in order to secure a good climate for the residents to live in. During the winter mechanical ventilation will be used, but in the summer time it is up to the residents to use natural ventilation in order to secure a healthy indoor climate. The project accommodates 150% m2 ratio which was achieved thanks to volume studies that were based on the optimal shadow distribution in different seasons.

FYRKAT MUSEUM

The architectural vision of the project was to create a modern museum for exhibiting Viking artefacts and promoting the Fyrkat Viking fortress at Hobro. This conclusion will review the finished result in order to verify that the buildings correspond with the intended vision. As a reference to the modesty and humble approach to the landscape often seen in the Nordic tradition, the museum is placed with respect to the typically Nordic context. This is done by splitting up the functions and placing them in three different volumes following the sloping ground. The rational partition makes it easy to comprehend. The choice and use of materials to create a certain atmosphere in the building have been a big part of the museum design. A journey through the museum is a phenomenological voyage through different atmospheres. The journey starts in the open landscape when arriving, and continues in the entrance building, going underground through the underground spiral and the exhibition and ending up in the open and light cafĂŠ.

NELLEMANS GARDENS

Motivation of the project is to create modern museum located in Seby commune. Project will accommodate paintings, works in wood sculptures and collages with emphasis on the na誰ve and Nordic, buildings are clearly located so there is no way of missing them upon visiting the gardens. Key factor in designing the museum was the flexibility. Project is divided in six volumes which help to have variety of the experiences each room can be arranged differently depending on the demands. It is easy to provide lots of natural light as well as creating the dark room. Different orientation of each of the boxes provides unique views over the park. The soft relation to the nature is achieved by lifting buildings above the ground creating a floating effect.

CASA HERMANDAD

Casa Hermandad de los Gitanos is a parish house related to the catholic association of Los Gitanos. This brotherhood participates in the religious festival which takes place in Sevilla(Spain) during the Holy Week. The program of the building mainly incorporates offices, meeting rooms, a cafe, a museum about the association and space for the storage of the “paso, a big religious sculpture used during the procession of the Holy Week. The project is located next to the old church of this brotherhood. Therefore the integration with the existing building and the context becomes a key point of this project. The concept is to separate the building from the church, leaving a narrow gap used for circulation and illumination, which respects the old wall and establish a relation with it at the same time. The volume is perforated by courtyards, and the lattice of the facade, inspired in the traditional baroque pattern, keeps the monolithic expression of the building. Flexibility and versatility in use of space are also characteristics present in this project.

SONDERSO

Søndersø Idrætsland project area is situated in the Western part of the City of Søndersø, surrounded by beautiful nature, primary and secondary schools, as well as a number of sports and football club facilities. The unique mix of users provides a fantastic potential for synergistic effects between sports, leisure and teaching across age and proficiency. The project agenda is hence twofold: the club facilities and central football field areas are retrofitted, while a number of new surrounding activity fields are added. A number of new activity fields placed around the central football area provide a shared area of training and play for pupils and visitors. The new activity fields are shaped as the planets of the solar system to provide inspiration for both sports and learning, with each activity field providing a different themed environment which evokes the key characteristics of the corresponding planet.

BIBIANA

Bibiana Children’s House will provide a permanent site for Danish children literature and culture. Dedicated to promoting children’s fantasy and ability to ‘fabricate’ new realms and realities, BIBIANA aims at providing a progressive and individualized learning environment for children of all ages within an international environment inspired by the collaboration with BIBIANA – House of Art for Children Bratislava. An open book releasing world stories provides a simple yet powerful organizational concept. The book cover becomes the circulation and service wall binding together the pages of the book - the spaces of the house which open onto the surrounding park. BIBIANA HOUSE unites the efficiency of the exhibition center with the easy accessibility of the pavilion situated in scenic surroundings. The open book concept, with the pages/ books connected into a continuous spatial sequence, provides flexible space usage: the spaces can be used as joined areas of activity, or independently, according to changing needs. In the same time, each room provides unique exhibition and work environments with individual orientations, light conditions and views.

JOURNEY THROUGH THE DAY

Project is the metaphor for experiencing the day, climbing up and down throughout the different stages of it, starting in the bottom in the cosy sleeping area peeking in the top at the working unit. Projects provide great phenomenological experiences each day as the user is forced to go outside and be in touch with the surroundings. Top of the slope was chosen as the working area due to practical reasons it provides the best view over the area, suitable to observe the birds. The most influential inspiration for the project were German bunkers located in the area, as they were slowly deteriorated by the forces of the nature their shapes were inclining and turning around. This spectacular forms provided the idea for the project.
