The Texas State Capitol, completed in 1888 in Downtown Austin, contains the offices and chambers of the Texas Legislature and the Office of the Governor. A $75 million underground extension was completed in 1993. It is 308 ft (94 m) tall making it the

sixth tallest state capitol and one of several taller than the United States Capitol in Washington, D.C. The current Texas State Capitol is the fourth building to hold that designation. One of the earlier buildings was burned in the great capitol fire of 1881. 7

Hotel San Jose was uilt in 1936 as an “ultramodern� motor court and has since been transformed into a 40 room urban bungalow-style hotel tucked behind stucco walls and set amidst lush garden courtyards. Dogs are always welcome. 14
