“Our vision is to be the school of choice for our local community, developing successful young people with high aspirations, who show respect for all and endeavour to become the very best that they can be.”
Welcome Hi everyone, I hope you are all keeping well over this lockdown period. Well done to those of you working hard and trying to stick to a routine. It's not easy, but if you can motivate yourself to stay focused and persevere through these difficult times, you will have developed a special set of skills that will help you whenever you come across adversity later on in life. Mr Rahman Everyone's a mathematician - whether it's highbrow algebraic manipulation and geometric proofs that are your thing or it's working with recipes, money, listening to music or understanding shapes that get you thinking mathematically. So: Hello Mathematicians! Thank you to all of you who've been getting your completed assignments in on time. I am especially impressed to see so many neat, thorough and wellchecked answers by you. Remember to show some working out – your notes should be good enough to revise from. You are learning some very valuable skills in self-motivation and independent learning which will stand you in good stead for future studies and work. We're all here, happy to help if you have questions about the work - so don't ignore it if you get stuck, check-in with your teacher and continue to aim high! Mrs Thompson
Student Work Excellent work on Fractions by Vanesa Dorneanu in Year 7, Ratio by Ellie Louise Griffiths in Year 10 and Algebraic Division by Berfin Bulut in Year 12. Well done everyone!

Musical Maths Take a look at this YouTube video for a different spin on learning tricky mathematics. https://youtu.be/vg4ur4eOW6c And here is one for our A-Level students: https://youtu.be/TkE_whKcNPw What are your thoughts on creating maths music as a handy revision technique?
Chess Corner The solution to last week's problem was to put White in check by moving the Queen D8 to D4. With White having to go on the defensive, they leave the bishop on B4 to be taken by the Queen on Black's next move. White loses a valuable piece and is in a much weaker position going forward. A move like this would cost a professional chess player the game!
This week's chess puzzle is below. Can you find a tactic for White to gain an advantage?
