2 ∞ & Beyond!

“Our vision is to be the school of choice for our local community, developing successful young people with high aspirations, who show respect for all and endeavour to become the very best that they can be.”

Welcome Throughout this period of learning at home I have seen some amazing work, from completing worksheets using operations with fractions, creating posters on perimeter and areas of circles, and trialing events for probability. The dedication and effort to continue your learning in this time is inspiring. Keep up the amazing work everyone as we continue this term to learn from home. Miss Smith Hi there dear students. I am sure that many of you are missing the close contact with your peers and teachers at school. I know it has been a challenging time for us all during this period of lockdown. Many of you have shown your resilience, and have worked impressively throughout, while there are some of you that still need to improve your independent learning habits. I hope you continue to remain upbeat as we continue to follow the guidance to keep safe. Take care. Mr Naidoo

Student Work Excellent work on Representing Data using Bar Charts, Pie Charts and Histograms by Haval in Year 10. Well done!

UKMT Junior Maths Challenge The UKMT Junior Maths Challenge was due to take place on the 30 th of April. Students from the Extension set in Year 7 and 8 were to sit this paper but, of course, this had to be cancelled. The competition will now take place on Monday 29th June and will be completed online. More details on how to enter the challenge will be sent to you next week via Google Classroom. The Challenge, whilst difficult (it is a Challenge!), is meant to be fun. It is a multiple choice question paper and many of the topics will be something you have encountered before. However, they are designed to make you really think about the Maths and some of them can be quite tricky! This will form part of your work in Maths that week and you will have less work than usual set so that you will have the time to take part. Roding Valley came second in the last Team Challenge. The results of the Junior Maths Challenge will be used to select two students from Year 7 to join take part in the Team Challenge next year. All students who take part will be awarded House Points, with extra points available to any students awarded the Bronze, Silver or Gold Certificate.

TT Rockstars Well done to everybody who is taking part. Should you appear on the top 3 leader board each week for your class, you will receive house points! So please make sure you are competing. TT Rockstars is also a great way to practice your times tables proficiency and improve your recall speed. A very well done to our top three TT Rockstars users this week: 1. Pedro Buburuzan – Year 7 2. Enru Li – Year 7 3. Abby Crawford-Kite – Year 8 To see if you can make it on the leaderboard next week, head over to the TT Rockstars website, www.ttrockstars.com. Your login details can be found on Edulink under the documents section. Contact your class teacher if you have any problems.

Chess Corner Black to move. In this puzzle, Black moves first and starts a sequence of moves so that no matter what White does, White is checkmated after the second move. Can you find the move that Black must do? The answer to last week's problem is for White to move B7 to F7 capturing Black's bishop with White's rook. Can you follow through the next couple of moves and show how white gains an advantage by doing this?
