It is a busy examination period throughout the country and Roding Valley is no different. The Year 11s are coping well with the demands of preparing for a raft of exams and the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. Students feel that they have revised thoroughly and have had excellent support from their teachers to help them get ready for the sternest of tests. Elsewhere the school continues to be a busy place. The Drama department were delighted with the Year 9 and 10 production of the Wizard of Oz and it was lovely that so many parents and friends came to support the students. It is wonderful that so many come to support the school whenever there is a production, concert or sports fixture. I have been impressed with how supportive a school community Roding Valley is and this is certainly something that I would like to see continue, and indeed grow, in the future. It really does make a difference to the students and to the staff who put in so much work ensuring that these events are a success. Speaking of which, the Year 7 Disco was a roaring success and over 140 students came along on the Friday evening to enjoy music, refreshments and pizza. A great evening was had by all and over £700 was raised by the Friends of Roding Valley, so thank you to all those who supported the event. I would also like to congratulate Emma Newton in Year 10 for taking part in the Speak Out Challenge last week. She performed admirably and was well supported by her friends as well as Miss Atkinson and Mr Ehsan. She spoke fluently and eloquently and gave an excellent account of herself. Unfortunately the competition was very strong but Emma certainly did the school proud. Finally I would like to say a big well done to Jamie Grace in Year 9. He represented Essex at Football at Under 14 level at the weekend. I am delighted to say that they won 3 -2 against a strong Kent side with Jamie scoring one goal and creating two assists. A fantastic performance and hopefully the first of many representative honours. J Luck Headteacher
