Firstly I would like to thank all those of you who attended the Key Stage 3 Awards Evening last night. This was an opportunity to celebrate the successes of our students and reward them for their hard work and perseverance over their first three years at Roding Valley High School. It was a very positive evening and the students appeared to enjoy the well deserved limelight. Afterwards there was a lovely atmosphere where students, parents, Governors and staff mingled and photos aplenty were taken. In the busy life of a secondary school it is important to take stock from time to time and enjoy the progress that the students have made. This was one such occasion and I look forward to these students achieving outstanding GCSE results in the summer of 2017. This week we have been hosting Open Mornings every day during Periods 1 and 2 and large numbers of prospective parents have been visiting the school. These are a chance for parents considering Roding Valley High School to see the school in action on an average day with lessons going on as normal. They have been shown round by some of our fantastic Sixth Formers as well as members of the Senior Team and it has been a pleasure to hear such glowing praise about how impressed our visitors have been with the school. Next Thursday 8th October we have the Open Evening which is likely to be very busy and I would like to remind you that we are closing early at 12.20pm on the Thursday in order to make our preparations and then students will not be expected in the following day until registration at 11am. On Friday of last week the Governors of Roding Valley High School spent the day in school. They had a full schedule and visited every faculty and spent a lot of time in lessons as well as meeting with various staff. I met the Governing Body at the end of the day to discuss their impressions of the school and I was delighted with their comments. They were impressed with the students’ attitudes to learning and the calm and focused nature of the lessons. The teaching was engaging and many different techniques were used to challenge the students and ensure progress was evident. They also commented on how smart the students were and how polite and pleasant they were throughout the day whether in lessons or at break time and lunch. I would also like to thank the PTA for organising and running such a successful Quiz Night last Friday. The competitive spirit was evident and there was some good natured competition between teams but everyone enjoyed their evening and a fine sum of money was raised by the PTA. Thank you all very much for coming along and we hope to make this into a popular annual event. J Luck Headteacher

Please remember that the PE department has a no jewellery policy. Students are not allowed to wear earrings for PE lessons and will be asked to remove them so if your child is going to have their ears pierced this should be done at a time when they are not in school for enough time to allow the ears to heal, e.g. at the beginning of the summer holidays.
