Welcome back to a new term. I trust that the Easter holidays were good and enjoyable and that the students have come back rested and ready for the challenge of the new term. Lots went on during the holiday including a Football trip to Madrid in Spain. There was a group of 40 students from Years 8, 9 and 10 who had the privilege of training with Real Madrid. It was a great success and lots of fun was had by all. Thank you to Mr Jones and his team for organising such a great trip. School was open during the holiday and hosted a full programme of GCSE and A level revision sessions. These sessions were incredibly well attended and the feedback from students was very positive. They were very appreciative of the extra support at this important time. I am very grateful to staff for giving up their time to do this with our students. It is with great delight that I can announce that our Year 11 Boys Football team won the West Essex District Cup on Wednesday played at Chigwell Sports Club against West Hatch. Final score was 4 -2. Goal scorers were Jamie Reason, Harry Boyd Walker and Ben Harris. They thoroughly deserved their win and let’s hope their luck holds when they play in the Essex Cup Final on Tuesday 9th May. Summer term is already really busy gearing up for the GCSE, AS and A Level exams – full details later in the bulletin. It was the Year 12 and Year 13 Parents’ Evening last night, this event was very well attended. Please see the Sixth Form weekly news for more detail. Today was the Science Drop Down Day for Year 11. Students enjoyed a series of different revision sessions. We were joined today by the Head of Chemistry from Boswells School who engaged the students with some great practical and revision ideas. Thank you to Miss Wybrant and Mr Poovilingham for planning such a great day for the students. If you have a student in Year 7 then please note that their assessment exams are in the week beginning 2nd May. Next week is Shakespeare week in school and there will be special events planned for Year 7 on Tuesday. Our New Head Boy Matthew Tinker and Head Girl Lauren Humphries have been introducing themselves in assemblies this week. They have some great ideas, please read their article later in the bulletin. GCSE Music Concert happening after school on Thursday 27th 6pm start in the hall. There is also a Year 7 & 8 Junior Maths Challenge on Thursday. Finally, it has been an exciting week in Roding Valley High School and I am delighted to have been appointed Head of School. It has been great to have the support of Mr Banks, from The Boswells School in Chelmsford, who has been appointed Executive Headteacher. We will continue to work together with the Senior Leadership Team and committed staff to ensure that the school continues to provide our students with the highest standards of education. Have a good weekend Mrs S Jenner Head of School

As the newly appointed Head Boy and Girl, we are proud to support the school. We have a strong team of 30 Prefects, who all have strong ambitions to deliver great projects for our school. Over the next couple of weeks, the Prefect Team will become more visible by participating in lunch duties; we are all ambassadors for the school so anyone can approach us. We are proud to launch a brand new dedicated charity team within the Prefect Team; they are already planning some high-profile events to be enjoyed by the entire school. Already the Prefect Team supports Peer Mentoring during registration and Drama Clubs, such as Wonderland! We have a strong vision for our school; one of the most important aspects of our vision is #youthvoice. Young people deserve to be listened to, which is why we as Head Boy and Girl are going to actively listen to everyone who approaches us, and we will feed this back to the Senior Leadership Team. As a result of this, we are relaunching the School Council. Anyone who wants to apply to the School Council can find an application form at Student Reception starting Monday, or you can download a copy here goo.gl/mp28Le . We hope that we will be strong Prefect Team; we are being ambitious this year and soon we will start delivering some really great projects! Lauren Humphries and Matthew Tinker Head Girl and Head Boy

6th Form Preparation for Public Examinations Early indications in terms of student progress are extremely positive. The results from the last PPE results show that in the main students are on track to achieve their target grades. Students should now make sure they are sufficiently preparing for the next weeks PPE’s, ensuring that they are revising the complete specifications so that the results of the PPE’s can give a better reflection of the Summer Examinations. Students should now be: 

working through 2-3 hours of revision per night



working on one past paper per week at the very least



using Power Hours with their revision books and applying the theory of “an hour a chapter”



watching YouTube Playlists where possible



making a complete revision timetable from now until the end of the Summer Exams
