Well, the rain did stop and we’ve had a lovely week of warm weather for the last week of this half term. Next week students are on half term break although we are running revision sessions for Year 11,12 and 13 students throughout the week, details of which will have gone to parents separately by email. Can we remind parents that if the weather continues to be so nice blazers must still be brought into school and a decision will be made daily as to whether students need to wear them during the school day. It has been a very settled end to this half term. I am delighted to announce that the school is now fully staffed from September. Mr Banks and I have spent a lot of our time interviewing and we are both very happy with the quality of the candidates that we have recruited. We have had some excellent applicants and have been very selective in our choices to ensure that we can deliver the high quality teaching that your sons and daughters deserve. We have also invested in a product called ‘Show my Homework’, we will be launching this with staff after half term. Parents will be invited to attend the Parent Forum on Monday 3rd July which will focus on the product and how parents can engage with their child’s learning and homework set. This week we said farewell to Year 13 who today officially started their study leave ready for their examinations after the half-term break. Students in Year 13 joined us in 2010 and have now finished (almost) their seven year journey with us. They enjoyed a lovely goodbye breakfast in the outdoor classroom yesterday. It was an ideal time for students and staff to say their farewells. All students received a card wishing them all the best for the exams and we wish them success in whatever course they have decided to follow. We will now look forward to seeing them again at the end of term meal on Friday 30th June and on results day on Thursday 17th August from 7:30am. Year 12 can collect their results from 10am. Today was Funky Footwear Friday and students were able to come into school in their own choice of shoes—all contributions went to our Zambia charity “Beyond Ourselves”. We raised a grand total of £740 towards this good cause. Thank you to everyone for their support. Last night was the launch of the Key Stage 3 Challenge and Enrichment Project. It was a very positive and inspiring evening. I look forward to the presentation evening on the 13th July when their work will be on display and those who produce exceptional pieces will be awarded. This is the fifth year of the project and previous entries have been at A level standard and above. Please do look on the school website for more details or contact our Challenge and Enrichment coordinators Miss Bingham, kbingham@rodingvalley.net, or Miss Hanlon, rhanlon@rodingvalley.net. Year 7 had their PiXL Edge Awards Assembly this morning. It was a privilege to be in the assembly giving so many of our students their awards. Many students had completed the tasks and skills which enabled them to achieve the Leadership and Organisation awards. They will now start work on their Resilience, Independence and Communication awards. It has been a busy half term and I am sure that parents and students are looking forward to the week’s holiday. Next half term is looking equally as busy and we have a few reminders for you of forthcoming events: 

Parents of Year 10 Year 10 Careers Programme During this summer term students in Year 10 will be writing a CV and letter of application in tutor time in preparation for the mock interview day on Thursday 13th July. Over the coming weeks they will all participate in careers group work sessions in the Careers Office. Post 16 Options will be discussed and students will be encouraged to start some thorough research into which pathway they wish to follow at the end of Year 11. Parental Involvement Encourage students to complete their CV, discuss with them your own experiences of job interviews and applications. Ensure they save their CV on a computer at home so it will always be accessible to them in the future when searching and applying for jobs. Encourage them to start researching which A levels or courses they may choose to study at the end of Year 11. In September I will provide Parents with detailed information about further education and the open day dates of local colleges and sixth forms. Mock Interview Day Thursday 13th July 2017 I will send out more information regarding the day nearer the time. The mock interview day will prepare students for their first interview at either sixth form, college or with an employer. They will have a ‘mock interview’ either with an employer at the school or with a local employer at their premises. To participate in this students MUST submit a CV and letter of application to Mrs Mason by the end of May. If you require any further information or advice please contact me. Kind regards Mrs Mason Careers Development Manager dmason@rodingvalley.net Twitter: Follow @RVHS_Careers to keep up to date with our department.

All students in Year 11, Year 12 and Year 13 have been issued with an Examination Booklet containing all relevant information regarding the forthcoming exam season.
