We have had a lovely week at Roding Valley High School with a lot of positive and cheerful students around. Thank you to all those parents who have completed the parent survey sent out. Please do take the time to respond to this so that we can use the information to make a positive impact on the school. https://docs.google.com/a/rodingvalley.net/ forms/d/1mrgKUcybvy46L6fCkVOK88VbeiZuU0cIbiKYjE_1kPE/viewform? edit_requested=true Also thank you to parents of Year 11 students who attended the parent consultation yesterday. It was a very positive evening where teachers provided lots of information to help parents support their children with their learning at home. Our students all participated wholeheartedly in the World Book Day, which was run by the English Department and Mrs Martin, our librarian, who all dressed up for the occasion. More information about the day can be found later on in the bulletin. We also were treated to some delicious pancakes on Tuesday when Mrs Goosen and the team went into a flurry of action to prepare hundreds of pancakes for students and staff alike to consume. The break time treat raised money for a good cause. Please can I remind parents that Year 10 exams will be taking place next week. Timetables have been issued to all students and an outline of the week can be found in this bulletin. Please make sure that the students have a good relaxing weekend with sensible revision sessions planned so that they can come into school refreshed and raring to go. Our PTA are holding one of their very popular Quiz Nights at the end of the term, on Friday 24th March. These are always fun evenings and well attended. There is a choice of a ticket - with or without food, although the Hummus in Pitta bread is greatly recommended by the staff! There are lots of things to look forward to in the coming weeks. Next week we will have the Y11, 12 and 13 photographs on Wednesday. Students will get the chance to have a photograph with their form and their form tutor. On the same day 7Q are holding a bake sale to help raise funds for Zambia. Finally some Year 12 and 13 students will be going to see Othello performed in London on Friday We are fast approaching the main exam season so please can I ask you to help all students due to sit their GCSEs, AS Levels and A Levels to plan a good revision routine. Finally I would like to wish you all a good weekend. S Jenner Acting Headteacher

Wold Book Day Thursday 2nd March was World Book Day where members of staff dressed up as a range of interesting characters from Shakespeare. A whole school DEAR (drop everything and read) time took place where students had half an hour to read for pleasure in their lesson and celebrate the day with their classroom teacher. At lunch time, Year 7 exchanged their book tokens for a variety of World Book Day books in the Hall and also took part in a range of fun activities.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT CHANGES TO LOCAL BUS ROUTES Debden and Loughton in Essex are currently linked to North East London by TfL bus routes 20, 167, 397 and 549. Essex County Council provided funding towards the operation of routes 20 and 167, however this stopped in April 2016. During June and July 2016 we consulted on proposed changes to bus route 167 in response to this loss of funding. We have now analysed these responses. We received 743 responses from members of the public and 15 responses from stakeholders. We also received a petition opposing the proposals which was signed by 2,547 people. From 11 March 2017, we will introduce the following changes:
Route 167 will no longer run between Loughton station and Debden station
A new route 677 will be introduced providing a limited stop service between Ilford and schools in Debden using double deck buses. On school day mornings this will stop at all existing bus stops from Ilford to Buckhurst Hill station. After Buckhurst Hill station it will operate on an express basis, stopping only at Loughton station (for Roding Valley High School), Davenant Foundation School, Debden Park High School and Debden station. There will be one journey from Ilford to Debden on schoolday mornings and a return journey in the afternoon to Ilford making the same stops.
No changes are proposed to route 20, which will continue to serve the section of route between Loughton station and Debden station. Further information For further details of the above changes, a summary of the consultation responses, and our responses to issues raised, please go to https://consultations.tfl.gov.uk/buses/167/ Liaison with schools We do appreciate your concerns about the changes which were included in the consultation summary. We considered these in our response to issues raised report. We will liaise with the three main schools affected on the most appropriate timings for the new 677 service which works best for all. We will also liaise with them to provide advance notice and publicity of the changes. Yours sincerely
Darek Podwiazka, Senior Consultation Manager, Transport for London
