It was a real pleasure to attend the Winter Concert on Monday evening. The standard of performance was really high and it started to feel like the countdown to Christmas. There were too many stand-out performances to individually mention but a very well done to every student who participated. There were many proud teachers, governors and family members in the audience. Today we have had an external company come in and perform A Christmas Carol to our English GCSE students. It was a fabulous production which will really support them with the understanding of the text. It was really enjoyable event for all. We also had the pleasure of a visit from Sugar J Poet to speak to our Year 11 and 12 English students, one of whom has provided a quote later on in the bulletin. All students who attended thought it was a very worthwhile visit. Please can I remind you about the pantomime, Aladdin, which takes place next Tuesday The show starts at 7pm with the doors opening at 6.30pm. Tickets are available from student reception. They cost £5 for adults and tickets for concessions/children are £3.50. The Year 12 Exams commence on Thursday 15th December. Students in Year 12 will be on study leave from this date during this period. Please see a copy of the exam schedule later on in the bulletin. The Key Stage 4 Awards Evening is on Monday the 19th December at 6pm. This event is a great opportunity to celebrate the success of our students in their exams in the summer of 2016. Many of these celebrated students have remained with us into the Sixth Form and I look forward to sharing both their former and their future achievements with them. A letter will be going out next week about the arrangements for the end of this term and the beginning of next term. In brief we will be finishing school at 12.20pm on Wednesday 21st December and the students will be returning at 8.35am on Monday 9th January 2017. Unfortunately the Parent Forum due to be held on the 12th December has had to be cancelled and has been rescheduled for after Christmas. A date will be sent out in the New Year. Just to let everyone know that the Headteacher, Jim Luck, is currently on compassionate leave from school, due to the fact that his eldest son is seriously ill in hospital. All our thoughts are with him at this difficult time. With kind regards Sharon Jenner Acting Headteacher

Sugar J Poet - at Roding Valley High School 9.12.16 He was a truly inspiring person, who captured our emotions and kept around 50 school kids engaged and interested throughout an hour long speech just about himself. Seeing and hearing him has made me aware of how easy it can be to follow your dreams and do what you find interesting. One of the best things this school has offered me was this opportunity.
