RVHS Parent Bulletin Aspiration Respect Endeavour Monday 7th October 2019 Message from the Headteacher
Right now there is not a Headteacher in the land that is more proud of the staff and students in their school. I am proud every day, but our Open Morning was such a huge success as a result of a massive team effort and our school shone. Thank you to all of our students that participated on Saturday, in their roles as student guides, actors, debaters, scientists, musicians, chefs and mathematicians. Their enthusiasm and their pride for our school was outstanding. It was another amazingly busy week here with sporting events, the Duke of Edinburgh and Creative Art successes. We are always encouraging our students to get involved and they are certainly doing just that. You will find included with this bulletin a copy of the October edition of our student magazine ‘RVHS Exposed’, please do take the time to read through this. I am so please for our newly appointed Year 7 House Leaders – what a fantastic start to their seven year journey.

On Saturday, we opened our doors to hundreds of prospective students. It was a fantastic day showcasing all of the amazing things that our school has to offer. From our English department presenting scenes from ’An Inspector Calls’ to live debates in our Brook Library from our Debating team. Parents were also able to attend our Headteacher’s Presentations which featured some amazing musical and dramatic performances from a few of our Year 7 and 8 students. We would like to thank all of the staff and the students that participated and for their hard work that made this event such a success!

Open Morning Debating The debate on the open morning was a huge success for years 7-11 with some very interesting arguments made. The debaters not only researched and wrote speeches, but the eloquent expression of their arguments and answers of the questions from the audience were very well presented. A big well done to all that took part!
Raajveer Singh took time from his Bar Mock Trial at lunchtime to help Joe with his Maths homework. Raj is a great mathematician and used his strength in maths to help others! Well done!

What a great start for the Year 7 Netball team, winning 12-11. The team played a blinder especially Charlotte Palmer (GD), Hannah Salmon (GA), Saffron Heatley (WD), Ruby Harris (C) and Jessie Tucker (GS) and Olivia Elsdon (GK), who showed great sportsmanship. We played against Davenant and in the last second our GS scored a magnificent goal as soon as the whistle blew. Since our GK hurt herself, Ava Corletta stepped in, and played as an amazing replacement. Our attack side was brilliant because Evie Seymour (WA) attacked every place she possibly could. Daisy Callagher (WA) also played great and attacked every pass, everyone in this team played unbelievably well and we deserved the win. Let’s hope this winning streak continues! Well one to the Players of the Match Jessie Tucker and Saffron Heatley! Match Reporter: Jessie Tucker 7S
Year 7 Christmas Theatre Trip: 17th December 2019 Our Year 7 Christmas theatre trip to see Billionaire Boy, the new West End musical. This is the story of Joe whose life is transformed, after an unexpected change of fortune. But then things become complicated for Joe. With his new best friend, Bob, at his side, Joe navigates an assault course of school bullies and dangerously inedible canteen food. To make matters worse is the impossibly pretty new girl Lauren, is she all that she appears to be? Letters for the trip have been emailed home to Year 7 parents. Tickets cost ÂŁ21 and we have 90 places available for this amazing show. For more details, speak to your English teacher.

Message from Miss Wheaton Work Shadowing This week we have launched work shadowing with our Year 12 students. In the last week of the academic year all students will be going out into the workplace to experience a sector they are interested in. Our Year 12 students will need to be really proactive with seeking out appropriate work placements and the quicker they start approaching employers, the better. If you run or are employed by a business or sector that would be kind enough to give one of our students this invaluable experience, don't hesitate to get in touch with us at sixthformoffice@rodingvalley.net
Football An outstanding start from our newly formed Sixth Form Football team this week. In their first game of the season they won 8 - 0. A fantastic effort from all involved! Well done!

At RVHS, we communicate by email in a bid to get information to you quicker and more cost effectively. We found, however, our previous parental communication system did not give the functionality that people expect from smart phone apps today. So the school has invested in a new communication system call RS Connect Ed and with this comes a shiny new App.
MyEd is the free parent app that gives you a multitude of communication and information features to stay in touch with what is going on at school. The app gives you direct access to your child's attendance, timetable, absence records, achievements, behaviour and much, much more. You will also see that we update and change the information in the app as the school year moves along. Click here to see a short video about the app We are able to send you messages directly to the MyEd app relating to important information about your child's education and to remind you of events that are taking place at school. We can also embed links to regularly used systems, for example ParentPay & Doddle so you can keep everything in one place. You will receive a notification if we send you a message and there is no charge for the messages you send to us. The App can be downloaded by anyone and they will have access to information also available on our website. Only parents will be able to access their own student’s information as long as we have the email address and mobile number you are using to access the App. Everyone will be able to see image to the left.
But only parents of students in the school will be able to access this when clicking on the My Students tab. The MyEd app is available for both Apple iOS and Android devices and can be found using the links below: Step 1 - Go to your App Store Step 2 - Search for My Ed Step 3 - Download the Free app Apple iOS App Google Android App Once you have installed and opened MyEd, search for Roding Valley High School and follow the simple instructions to identify yourself. Please do not hesitate to contact the school if you are having any problems and we will help you get set up. Follow us on: @rodingvalleyHS @humsrvhs @rodingvalleyPE RODING VALLEY DRAMA@rodingdrama

At RVHS, we use Show My Homework; an account has been created for you to keep up to date with your child’s homework progress from home.
What is ‘Show My Homework’? Show my Homework is a simple online solution for students and parents to view homework details and upcoming deadlines. Mobile apps and notifications ensure you always know what homework your child has and when it’s due. How to Log In? Go to www.showmyhomework.co.uk/pin Or you can download the app. Enter your PIN details that you have been given in the letter provided by your school.
What are PINs? PINs are unique codes that ‘Show My Homework’ has assigned to each parent that allow us to confirm their identity on initial login. After logging in for the first time users will be asked to provide more memorable login details for future use. PINs are then only be used as a backup in case you forget these logins.
Click ‘Log in’ Create a memorable password and enter your email address then click ‘Update you details’.
Students do not need a pin to be able to access their homework. They can gain access to their Show My Homework account though their Gmail account.
You are now able to access your account and view all the homework that has been set for your child. If yourself or your child experience any difficulties with using ‘Show my Homework’ or you no longer have your pin, please contact Miss Larkin: plarkin@rodingvalley.net
