Easter Quiz

Editor’s Note: Hello and welcome to another issue of RVHS Exposed. This time we’re back at school, and restrictions are finally starting to be lifted. Still, there are a lot of things that we all want to do and can’t, and I hope this issue of the magazine can help to fill up time during this difficult period. Everyone has worked extremely hard during the lockdown period and adapted really well to home-school, and it’s important to relax and give your brain a rest. For those who do have exams coming up, try not to worry about them too much. Exam stress is overwhelming, and it’s important to revise as much as you can without hurting your mental health. Having a timetable can help you stay organised. Revising in groups can also help to make your revision more effective, less

pressured and more sociable. Stay safe and enjoy reading. Joseph James, Editor 1. Easter Eggs, 2. Rabbit, 3. Chocolate, 4. Fast, 5. 2nd Century, 6. Sunday 4th April, 7. Bugs Bunny, 8. A Doe, 9. A Straw Hat, 10. He was resurrected

Answers to Easter Quiz:

The Van Gogh Immersive Experience: For the first time, the one and only Van Gogh Immersive Experience is coming to London! This beautiful art exhibition gives a personal insight into the genius artist’s life through digital art experiences and unique storytelling - and tickets have just been released to the public! The exhibition is due to go ahead this October. And don't worry - the hugely spacious venue (2000 square feet large!) it takes place in combined with the hands-free experience makes it covid-safe! This multi-sensory exhibition projects a mindblowing 300 of Gogh's most famous and stunning works across entire rooms - from ceiling to floor, including a shimmering "Starry Night" and "The Fields." A bonus virtual reality experience also walks you through 8 different Van Gogh paintings and how they were inspired. The complete visit lasts between 60-75 minutes and it's definitely worthwhile!

Lockdown Releases to Watch on Netflix: Lockdown has delayed the release of lots of films, but that doesn't mean that new ones haven’t been released, with Netflix in particular releasing lots of new content over the past year. Here are my picks for the best lockdown films:

Rocks: Rocks is a coming of age drama following a teenage girl who is forced to look after her brother after her mum disappears. Sarah Gavron’s third feature has received seven BAFTA Award nominations, and for good reason. The child performances are fantastic and the screenplay is devastatingly realistic, showing the harsh realities that so many children across the world face. The ending is brilliantly bittersweet, and the film on the whole is truly wonderful.

The Social Dilemma: This eye opening documentary focuses on some of the negative aspects of social media, and how dangerous using these sites can be. I don’t usually enjoy documentaries that much, but this one manages to convey information is an inventive and a visually engaging way, making it a lot more fun to watch. There are also dramatized segments within the film which, while not as engaging in my opinion, help to show how social media platforms affect people’s everyday lives. Overall, this is an informative yet still very enjoyable film.

Enola Holmes: Enola Holmes focuses on, well, Enola Holmes, the sister of world famous detective Sherlock, as she tries to solve the mystery of her mother’s disappearance. Filled to the brim with action and mystery, Enola Holmes takes all of the best elements from the classic Sherlock films and incorporates them well. The fast pace helps to keep you engaged and the characters are a lot of fun to be around. Overall, this is enjoyable and easy to watch.

The Trial of the Chicago 7: The Trial of the Chicago 7 has been getting a lot of Oscar buzz recently, and it isn’t hard to see why. The film focuses on a 1968 trial focusing on a clash between protestors and police, and has an all star cast, with Sacha Baron Cohen gaining an Oscar Nomination for his role as Abbie Hoffman. The dialogue is sharp and always engaging, and despite being over two hours, the pacing is very quick. The characters are well developed and the film has an important and well-delivered message about fighting for what you believe in. It’s truly a great film.

The Half of It: The Half of It is an enjoyable coming of age comedy-drama focusing on Ellie, who is asked by her classmate Paul to write letters to a girl he likes. Full of charm, whimsy and great performances, this film packs a lot into its runtime, and is fun from start to finish. By Joseph James

EASTER TREATS Classic hot cross buns: Prep: 30 mins Cook : 20 mins Ingredients: For the bun: - 300ml full fat milk - 50g butter - 500g strong bread flour - 1tsp salt - 75g caster sugar - 1tbsp sunflower oil - 7g sachet fast action yeast - 1 egg, beaten - 75g sultanas - 50g mixed peel - zest 1 orange - 1 apple, peeled, cored and finely chopped - 1 tsp ground cinnamon For the cross: - 75g plain flour For the glaze: - 3 tbsp apricot jam Method: 1. Bring 300ml full-fat milk to the boil, then remove from the heat and add 50g butter. Leave to cool until it reaches hand temperature. Put 500g strong bread flour, 1 tsp salt, 75g caster sugar and 7g sachet fast-action or easy-blend yeast into a bowl. Make a well in the centre. Pour in the warm milk and butter mixture, then add 1 beaten egg. Using a wooden spoon, mix well, then bring everything together with your hands until you have a sticky dough. 2. Tip on to a lightly floured surface and knead by holding the dough with one hand and stretching it with the heel of the other hand, then folding it back on itself. Repeat for 5 mins until smooth and elastic. Put the dough in a lightly oiled bowl. Cover with oiled cling film and leave to rise in a warm place for 1 hr or until doubled in size and a finger pressed into it leaves a dent. 3. With the dough still in the bowl, tip in 75g sultanas, 50g mixed peel, zest of 1 orange, 1 finely chopped apple and 1 tsp ground cinnamon. Knead into the dough, making sure everything is well distributed. Leave to rise for 1 hr more, or until doubled in size, again covered by some well-oiled cling film to stop the dough getting a crust. 4. Divide the dough into 15 even pieces (about 75g per piece). Roll each piece into a smooth ball on a lightly floured work surface. Arrange the buns on one or two baking trays lined with parchment, leaving enough space for the dough to expand. Cover (but don’t wrap) with more oiled cling film, or a clean tea towel, then set aside to prove for 1 hr more. 5. Heat oven to 220C/200C fan/gas 7. Mix 75g plain flour with about 5 tbsp water to make the paste for the cross – add the water 1 tbsp at a time, so you add just enough for a thick paste. Spoon into a piping bag with a small nozzle. Pipe a line along each row of buns, then repeat in the other direction to create crosses. Bake for 20 mins on the middle shelf of the oven, until golden brown. 6. Gently heat 3 tbsp apricot jam to melt, then sieve to get rid of any chunks. While the jam is still warm, brush over the top of the warm buns and leave to cool.

Chocolate egg baked tart: Prep: 20 mins Cook: 30 mins Ingredients For the base: - 80g butter, softened - 40g golden caster sugar -120g self raising flour - 75g butter - 100g dark chocolate - 75g golden caster sugar - 50g plain flour - 4 large eggs, beaten - 2 x 80g of chocolate eggs (galaxy golden eggs) - creme fraiche, to serve Method: 1. For the shortbread base, beat the butter and sugar together until light and creamy, then mix in the flour. Press the dough into the base of a 20-21cm tart tin and put in the fridge for 20 mins to harden. 2. Heat oven to 180C/160C fan/ gas 4. Prick the base all over with a fork and bake in the centre of the oven for 15 mins until lightly golden. 3. Meanwhile, melt the butter and chocolate together in a saucepan over a low heat. Once melted, stir in the sugar and flour, then gradually beat in the eggs. Pour the filling over the base and cover the top in chocolate eggs. Return to the oven and bake for 12-15 mins or until the the filling is just set at the edges but the centre is still shiny and a bit wobbly. 4. Remove from the oven and put in the fridge to chill. Can be made a day ahead and kept in the tin overnight. To release from the tin, warm the sides with a hot dishcloth for a couple of mins. Serve with crème fraîche. Teachers favourite Easter foods: - Mr Fletcher = Crunchie - Miss Garrip = Lamb ( It is referenced in quite a few Christian stories and has become linked with Easter because of the reference of Jesus being the sacrificial Lamb of God) - Ms Mason = Cadbury creme eggs - Ms Patel = Cadbury mini eggs and salted caramel hot cross buns - Miss Bleakley = Toasted hot cross buns slathered in butter , Cadbury easter egg and creme eggs - Mr Ohemeng = Lamb - Miss Bates = Mini egg nest cakes, dairy milk caramel egg and a lovely Sunday roast - Mrs Cain = Lindt chocolate bunny

Top 5 most surprising results in the Premier League during lockdown: Lockdown has changed the dynamic of the premier league. Home games without crowds are no longer the advantage they were, there has been a drastic increase in away wins by 26% since the beginning of the lockdown. This has also led to games and results to be unpredictable. Here are my top 5 most surprising results

5. Manchester City 2-5 Leicester: When you are traveling to the best team in England the most you can hope for is to not get smashed, but in Leicester's case they did a lot more than that. They thrashed the title favourite’s 5-2 in a thrilling game with three penalties, the most this season!

4. Manchester United 1-6 Tottenham Hotspur After taking the lead in the 3rd minute, what's the worst that can happen right. Well Man Utd experienced it here after losing 6-1 after taking the lead so early, against there champions league rivals.

3. Tottenham Hotspur 3-3 West Ham When you are 3-0 up in the 82nd minute you must surely think you have the three points in the bag. Think again as West Ham scored three times in the last ten minutes, including an injury-time screamer from Lanzini to steal the draw.

2. Man Utd 9-0 Southampton This one doesn't need explaining. Losing by five goals is embarrassing enough let alone conceding nine goals in a single ninety minutes. Two red cards added to this terrible game for Southampton, as Man Utd walked through the nine man team again and again. 1. Aston Villa 7-2 Liverpool On paper the best team in the league Liverpool, facing one of the worst teams in the league Aston Villa, surely Liverpool had it in the bag. Think again. Liverpool were thrashed 7-2 by Villa leaving the entire footballing world shocked.

Cherry Blossoms Birds Bees Flowers The Sun Grass

Examples taken by me: I took these pictures using my Nikon D3500 camera and 18-55mm lens. Then, I added a bit of warmth and colour using Adobe Lightroom.

I took these close-ups of bees using my Nikon D3500 camera and 70300mm lens. I used a longer lens for this that manually focuses as I wanted to get fine details of the bees and flowers. It also created a bokeh effect in the background. Again, I added a bit of warmth and colour using Adobe Lightroom.
