Anderson Campus in Bethlehem Township, currently showcasing the nation’s newest hospital, and the first non-profit, acute care, non-replacement hospital in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in more than 40 years.

“I have always believed that at St. Luke’s if we can dream it, we can do it,” said Rick Anderson, president and CEO of St. Luke’s Hospital & Health Network and the namesake of the new campus. “And that is exactly what we have done here in Bethlehem Township.”

St. Luke’s Anderson Campus at a Glance Ceremony attendees were able to tour the new facility which is comprised of three separate but connected buildings. Earlier in October, approximately 3,500 community members toured the campus, remarking on everything from the spacious rooms and superior technology to the warmth of the lobbies and the regionally-focused artwork.

Many of the brand-new radiology technologies at Anderson Campus are among the first to be installed in our region, like the low-dose CT scanner which reduces radiation exposure to patients by 50 percent.

In addition, the digital portable X-ray units are among the first 70 in the world. “Without a doubt, the medical technologies from GE Healthcare and Varian Medical Systems are some of the best the world has to offer,” said Nawrocki. “And, these world-class technologies are in very capable hands to diagnose and treat disease.”

In addition to a 108-bed acute care inpatient hospital, Phase I of the Anderson Campus also features an interconnected outpatient cancer center and medical office building. Located at the corner of Freemansburg Avenue and Route 33, the Anderson Campus occupies a 500-acre parcel of land considered to be one of the premier development sites remaining on the eastern seaboard. When fully developed, the Anderson Campus will be among the largest health care sites in Pennsylvania.

Anderson and Lobach were joined by family and friends of St. Luke’s Hospital & Health Network in an official ribbon cutting ceremony today which paid tribute to our nation’s military in honor of Veterans Day. Guests were welcomed onto the new campus by patriotic music performed by Main Street Brass and the national anthem was sung by soprano and St. Luke’s employee, Michele Giletto.

Cancer patients will also have access to more than 70 clinical trials and a top floor infusion suite for chemotherapy treatments.

Between the hospital and the cancer center is the St. Luke’s Medical Office Building at the Anderson Campus. The building is home to

a variety of primary and specialty services, including St. Luke’s Riverside Internal Medicine, St. Luke’s Bone & Joint Institute, Physical Therapy and St. Luke’s Health & Fitness Center.

A new St. Luke’s Heart & Vascular Center location will be added in December.

Economic Impact and Future Expansion In addition to providing quality health care for future generations, St. Luke’s Anderson Campus has and will continue to have a significant impact on the local economy for years to come. To date, the project’s value is estimated at $175 million.

The hospital, cancer center and medical office building are staffed by 300 new employees with an estimated 100 positions still available.

Furthermore, St. Luke’s is committed to investing in necessary road improvements along Freemansburg Avenue to ease any concerns about increased traffic, not only for patients and visitors to St. Luke’s Anderson Campus, but also for shoppers to the nearby shopping complexes and residents in the area.

St. Luke’s Anderson Campus has and will continue to have a significant impact on the local economy for years to come.

“It is gratifying to see a vision, to see it take shape, to see it rise from the ground, to see it open and also to see all of you here today to share in this momentous occasion,” said Kenneth Smith, past Chairman, Board of Trustees, St. Luke’s Hospital & Health Network.

“What you see here today started with a vision. In November 2002 — nine years ago, the Board of Trustees requested management find a 25-acre site in the Route 33 corridor for future development. Their vision further manifested itself in what eventually emerged as this 500-acre site.”

St. Luke’s Cancer Center – Anderson Campus

Built with the future in mind, the current buildings at St. Luke’s Anderson Campus utilize less than 50 acres of the 500 acre property and have been constructed to allow for additional expansion. Approximately 450 acres remain for future health care development, providing St. Luke’s with a largely open canvas.

Years in the Making Ahead of schedule and under budget, the opening of St. Luke’s Anderson Campus marks a significant milestone for St. Luke’s.

“That this new hospital stands before us today is no small achievement, when you consider 500 hospitals have closed in the United States in the past 20 years,” stated Nawrocki.

“We wouldn’t be here today without the commitment and support of many people. I would like to express my sincere thanks to all those who have contributed to the success of St. Luke’s and this project,” said Anderson. “Nothing is impossible to accomplish when well-intentioned people work together.”
